  • In this study, fatigue life is evaluated by comparing with lighter car body through the experiment on SPR joints. An experimental activity on sheet metal samples of Aluminum 5J32 and Steel SPRC440 has been conducted to achieve better understanding of the process. In addition, SPR joint used less than the existing Spot Welding improves joint strength and fatigue life is evaluated by using SPR and adhesive joining Hybrid. Joining(bonding) strength and fatigue life on SPR and Hybrid (SPR + adhesive) are evaluated throughout the experiment. With joining strength than 20 % of the aluminum material, dissimilar materials has improved over 2 times as large as the strength In case of dissimilar materials, the fatigue life of aluminum is increased by 1.6 to 2.5 times as large as the life.

  • The Power Flow Finite Element Method(PFFEM) offers very promising results in predicting the vibration responses of system structures, and the first PFFEM software, PFADS has been developed in Seoul National University for the vibration predictions and analysis of coupled system structures in medium-to-high frequency ranges. PFFEM is numerical method which solves energy governing equation using finite element technique for complicated structures where the exact solutions are not available. Through the upgrades, the current version PFADS R3 could cover the general beam and plate structures including various kinds of beam-plate rigid joints, spring-damper connection and rigid body connection within beam and plate in addition. This software is composed of three parts; translator, model converter and solver. The translator makes its own FE-model from bulk data of commercial FE software, and the model converter is used to convert FE-model to PFFE-model automatically. The solver calculates vibrational energy density and intensity for PFFE-model by solving global matrix equations of PFFEM. For the applications of PFADS R3, two vehicle models and a container model are examined with respect to major parameters, and reliable results are obtained.

  • Previous studies of kinematic analysis of golf swing usually dealt with variations vertically. The purpose of the study was to examine the horizontal hip joints motion of the fifteen male professional golfers during driver swinging. Kinematic variables were calculated by the Kwon3D motion analysis program. Paired t-tests and one-way ANOVA were used to compare the hip height, distance, displacement, and position differences. Results showed that there were no hip height changes and no hip height differences between left and right hip from address to impact. The axis of the backswing was braced right hip, the axis of the downswing was moving left hip. Hips position at the top of the backswing showed that hips move to target prior to hands, which means the sequential motion of the chain linked body segments. From address to impact, left hip moving distance was longer than right hip(p<.001), but during the whole swing, right hip moving distance was longer than left hip(p<.001). Hip rotation angle to target line was $-48.14{\pm}9.32^{\circ}$ at top of the backswing, $40.88{\pm}8.44^{\circ}$ at impact, and $104.70{\pm}8.14^{\circ}$ at finish.

  • The authors encountered 78 cases of pig from two swine herds with severe dermatitis, which had been fed with commercial rations. Main clinical signs were hard crust formation or erythema and papules on the skin and retarted growth. The skin lesions were visible on the limb joints in all cases. In some cases, however, crusts occurred on the tail, perineum, hip, ear, back, or neck. In one case the entire body surface was covered with thick crust. No mites were detected on the microscopic examination of skin scrapings. Histological examination of biopsies skin specimens taken from the lesions revealed typical parakeratotic changes: the cornified layer of epidermis was irregularly inreased in thickness and contained numerous nuclei. The provision of dietary supplementation with zinc sulfate and soybean oil for 10 days showed marked curative effect.

  • Clearances are essential for the assemblage of mechanisms to allow the relative motion between the joined bodies. This clearance exists due to machining tolerances, wear, material deformations, and imperfections, and it can worsen the mechanism performance when the precision and smoothly-working are intended. Energy is a subject which is less paid attention in the area of clearance. The effect of the clearance on the energy of a flexible slider-crank mechanism is investigated in this paper. A clearance exists in the joint between the slider and the coupler. The contact force model is based on the Lankarani and Nikravesh model and the friction force is calculated using the modified Coulomb's friction law. The hysteresis damping which has been included in the contact force model dissipates energy in clearance joints. The other source for the energy loss is the friction between the journal and the bearing. Initial configuration and crank angular velocity are changed to see their effects on the energy of the system. Energy diagrams are plotted for different coefficients of friction to see its influence. Finally, considering the coupler as a flexible body, the effect of flexibility on the energy of the system is investigated.

  • Resistance spot welding has been investigated to apply for manufacturing car bodies because of its high productivity. So quality of resistance spot weld is one of the major concerns for both automobile and aerospace industry. Current design trends in automotive manufacture have shifted emphasis to alternative lightweight materials in order to aid in producing vehicles with higher fuel efficiency and lower down the vehicle emission level for environmental control. There is increasing emphasis to provide lighter cars. Therefore there is an effort to use high strength steels such as HSLA, dual phase, in car body. However there is used in restricted because of difficulty in producing consistently high quality resistance spot welds. In this study, resistance spot welding schedules were developed to achieve acceptable welds with improved static mechanical properties. Improved resistance spot welding schedules were developed using post heating current to reduce the cooling rate, or in-process tempering to reduce the hardness of the weld produced. The effects of resistance spot welding process parameter on hardening fracture mode and static mechanical properties of the joints were determined.

  • Deployable structures have gained more and more applications in space and civil structures, while it takes a large amount of computational resources to analyze this kind of multibody systems using common analysis methods. This paper presents a new approach for dynamic analysis of multibody systems consisting of both rigid bars and arbitrarily shaped rigid bodies. The bars and rigid bodies are connected through their nodes by ideal pin joints, which are usually fundamental components of deployable structures. Utilizing the Moore-Penrose generalized inverse matrix, equations of motion and constraint equations of the bars and rigid bodies are formulated with nodal Cartesian coordinates as unknowns. Based on the constraint equations, the nodal displacements are expressed as linear combination of the independent modes of the rigid body displacements, i.e., the null space orthogonal basis of the constraint matrix. The proposed method has less unknowns and a simple formulation compared with common multibody dynamic methods. An analysis program for the proposed method is developed, and its validity and efficiency are investigated by analyses of several representative numerical examples, where good accuracy and efficiency are demonstrated through comparison with commercial software package ADAMS.

  • Most of mechanical structures are composed of many substructures connected to one another by various types of mechanical joints. In automotive engineering, it is important to study these connected structures under various dynamic forces for the evaluations of fatigue life and stress concentration exactly. In this study, the dynamic response of vehicle structure to external forces is classified an inverse problem involving strains from the experiment and the analysis. The practical dynamic forces are determined by the combination of the analytical and experimental method with analyzed strain by quasi-static finite element analysis under unit force and with measured strain by a strain gage under driving load, respectively. In a stressed body, inter-molecular chemical bonds are failed beyond the certain magnitude. The failure of molecular structure in material is considered as a time process of which rate is determined by mechanical stress. That is, the failure of inter-molecular chemical bonds is the fatigue lift of material. This kinetic concept is expressed as lethargy coefficient. And S-N curve is obtained with the lethargy coefficient from quasi-static tensile test. Equivalent practical dynamic force is obtained from the identification of practical dynamic force for one loading point. Using the practical dynamic force and S-N curve, fatigue life of a window pillar is analyzed with FEM under the identified force by the procedure of above mentioned.

  • The purpose of this study was to analyse the effect of the drop height on lower extremity and lower back kinematics and kinetics during drop landing with the use of raised heel insole. Furthermore we investigated the change that occurred in our body. Joint ROM, eccentric work and contribution to total work were calculated in 11 male college students performing drop landing with 8 motion analysis cameras and 1 forceplate. The result were as follows. First, the ROM and eccentric work were increased in all joints with the increase of the drop height. Second, the ankle ROM and eccentric work were decreased with the use of the insole. Third, the use of the lower back was increased as the use of the ankle decreased with the insole. Based on these results, we can infer that putting on the insole may contribute to chronic injury. We recommend not to use the insole during physical activity.
