ZnSSe:Te/ZnMgSSe DH 구조 청색~녹색발광다이오드의 개발 (Development of ZnSSe:Te/ZnMgSSe DH structure Blue~Green tight Emitting Diodes)

  • The optical properties of $ZnS_ySe_{1-\chi-y}:Te_{\chi}(\chi<0.08,y~0.11)$ alloys grown by molecular beam epitaxy (MBE) have been investigated by photoluminescence (PL) and PL-excitation (PLE) spectroscopy. Good optical properties and high crystal quality were established with lattice match condition to GaAs substrate. At room temperature, emission in the visible spectrum region from blue to green was obtained by varying the Te content of the ZnSSe:Te alloy. The efficient blue and green emission were assigned to $Te_1 and Te_n(n\geq2)$cluster bound excitons, respectively. Bright green (535 nm) and blue (462 nm) light emitting diodes (LEDs) have been developed using ZnSSe:Te system as an active layer. The turn-on voltage of 2.1 V in current-voltage characteristics is very small compared to that of commercial InGaN-based LEDs (>3.4 V), indicating the formation of a good ohmic contact due to the optimized p-ZnSe/p-ZnTe multi-quantum well (MQW) superlattice electrode layers.

LED 광원이 상추의 생육 및 무기물 흡수에 미치는 영향 (Effect of LEDs (Light Emitting Diodes) Irradiation on Growth and Mineral Absorption of Lettuce (Lactuca sativa L. 'Lollo Rosa'))

  • 식물공장 내 적색광, 청색광, 적청 혼합광, 자외선, 적외선, 형광등의 광원을 달리하여 어린잎 상추의 생육과 무기성분 흡수를 검토하였다. 잎의 형태는 Red 파장에서 초장 및 하배축의 길이신장이 촉진되어 도장하였고 Far red에서는 생장이 불가능하였으나 Red + Blue의 혼합광원에서는 초장이 짧고 엽수가 많고 생체중이 증가하여 상추의 형태 및 발달 차원에서 유의적으로 좋았다. 광질에 따른 어린잎 상추의 색차 및 상대 엽록소 함량을 조사한 결과, 적색도를 나타내는 Hunter $a^*$ 값은 Red + Blue 혼합광 및 형광등에서 높았고 적색광 및 자외선에서는 낮게 나타났는데 상대 엽록소 함량을 나타내는 SPAD도 같은 경향이었다. 특히 상대엽록소 함량은 형광등의 10.5에 비해 혼합광에서 1.8배 향상된 적색도를 나타내었다. 광원별 상추의 무기물 함량을 조사한 결과, pH 및 K 함량은 모든 처리에서 차이가 없었으나 N, Ca, Mg, Mn, Fe, Ascorbic acid 함량은 LED 처리구에서 많았고 P 및 Mn 함량은 형광등 처리구에서 많았다. 이상의 결과를 요약하면 단색광에 비하여 Red + Blue 혼합광에서 상추의 생육이 우수하고 무기물 함량이 증대되어 식물공장 내 생산성 향상을 위해서는 혼합광 조절로 상품성 있는 고품질의 상추 생산이 가능 할 것으로 생각되었다.

Red and Blue Photons Can Enhance the Production of Astaxanthin from Haematococcus pluviatis

  • The unicellular green alga, Haematococcus pluvialis, accumulates the highest level of astaxanthin among knownastaxanthi.n-producing organisms. Light is the most important factor to induce astaxanthin by H. pluvialis. BIue andred LEDs, whose ${\lambda}_{max}$'s are 470 and 665 nm, respectively, were used for internally illuminated light sources.Fluorescent lamps were also used for both internal and external illumination sources. The astaxanthin levels in thesevarious lighting systems were analyzed and compared each other. The cultures under internally illuminated LEDsaccumulaled 20% more astaxanthin than those under fluorescent lamp. Furthermore, LEDs generated much lessheat than the fluorescent lamps, which gives one more reason for the LEDs being a suitable internal Light source forastaxanthin induction. The results reported here would lead novel designs of photobioreactors with improvementsof illumination methods for high level of astaxanthm production. The maximum astaxanthin concentrations as wellas the astaxanthin yield per supplied photon were increased by at least 20% when blue or red LEDs were supplied.

  • We have investigated the optical properties of Te-doped ZnSSe:Te epitaxial layers grown on (100) GaAs substrates by molecular beam epitaxy. The Te-doped ternary specimen shows strong blue or green emission (at 300k) which is assigned to Te$_{1}$ or Te$_{n}$( n$\geq$2) cluster bound exciton. Bright green and blue light-emitting diodes (LEDs) have been developed using ZnSSe:Te system as an active layer. The green LEDs exhibit a fairly long device lifetime (>2000 h) when operated at 3 A/cm$^{2}$ under CW condition at room temperature. It is confirmed that the Te-doping induced "crystal-hardening effect" plays a significant role in both efficient and strong suppression of the optical device degradation.gradation.

완전제어형 식물공장에서 광원, 광질에 따른 엽채류 6종의 생육반응 (Effects of Light Sources, Light Quality on the Growth Response of Leafy Vegetables in Closed-type Plant Factory System)

  • 식물공장은 외부 환경요인에 관계없이 효율적인 공간활용을 통해 작물의 생산성 및 경제성을 극대화시켜 생산할 수 있는 획기적인 기술이다. 본 연구은 엽채류 중만추대 열풍적치마상추, 만추대 청치마상추, 그린 로메인상추, 그린골 양상추, 개량사또 쑥갓과 영진 청경채를 대상으로 식물공장에서 실험하였다. LED 시스템을 이용하여 광원의 종류를 적색, 청색, 적색+청색, 적색+청색+백색, 적색+적외선 혼합광으로 구성하였다. 적색+청색 혼합광에서 적색과 청색의 조사기간 비율은 1 : 1, 2 : 1, 5 : 1, 10 : 1로 구성하였고, duty 비는 100%, 99%, 97%로 구성하였다. 광원의 종류에 따른 결과 로메인상추에서 지상부 건중량과 S/R 비는 R+B 혼합광에서 가장 높았고, 양상추의 지하부 건중량과 쑥갓의 S/R 비는 R+B+W 혼합광에서 높았지만, 나머지 종에서는 차이가 없었다. 적색과 청색의 조사기간 비율에 따른 결과 청치마상추, 양상추와 청경체는 지상부 건중량, 총 건중량, S/R비가 비교적 적색의 비율이 높은 조건 (5 : 1)에서 가장 높았다. duty 비에 따른 결과 R+B 혼합광에서 쑥갓은 100%와 99%, 로메인은 100%와 97%일 때 지상부와 지하부, 총 건중량이 높았다. S/R 비는 엽채류 6종 모두 duty 비가 낮은 97%에서 높게 나와 낮은 duty 비에서도 양호한 생육을 보였다. R+B+W 혼합광에서 청치마상추와 로메인상추 그리고 청경채는 duty 비는 낮은 97%에서도 비교적 높은 지상부 건중량 및 총 건중량을 보였다. 또한, 로메인 상추와 양상추의 S/R 비는 duty 비가 97%인 조건에서 가장 높았다. 따라서 LED 시스템을 이용한 식물공장에서 각 엽채류 별로 적절한 광원과 광질을 이용하면 외부 환경요인에 관계없이 안정적인 재배를 할 수 있을 것이다.

식물 재배기의 효율적인 LED 조명 시스템 설계 (Efficient LED lighting system design of the plant growing system)

  • 본 논문은 식물 재배시스템을 제작하고 LED 광원은 단색광 3개(적색, 청색, 백색), 혼합광 3개(적색1+청색1, 적색2+청색1, 적색1+청색2)를 제작하여 사용하였다. 제작한 식물 재배시스템을 이용하여 LED 광원별 광 특성, 광량의 변화에 따른 조도 및 PPFD의 특성과 식물성장을 분석하였다. 분석결과 LED 광원의 광 효율은 백색 광원이 125 lm/W로 높으며 적색1+청색2 광원은 9.9 lm/W로 낮았다. 이러한 결과로 단색광이 혼합광 보다 광효율이 좋은 것을 확인 할 수 있었다. LED의 파장별 PPFD ($25{\mu}mol$, $50{\mu}mol$, $100{\mu}mol$) 조도값 크기는 백색 LED가 높으며 청색 LED가 낮았다. 따라서 LED 광원의 다양한 단색 혼합광 파장대역 조합에 따라 식물성장에 적합한 효율적인 LED 조명 시스템을 구성할 수 있다.

Supplementary Blue and Red Radiation at Sunrise and Sunset Influences Growth of Ageratum, African Marigold, and Salvia Plants

  • BACKGROUND: Light-emitting diodes (LEDs) with lower electric cost and the specific wavelength have been considering as a novel light source for plant production in greenhouse conditions as well as in a closed culture system. Supplementary lighting for day-length extension was considered as light intensity, light quality, and/or photoperiod control on plant growth and development. Effects of supplementary blue or red LED radiation with lower light intensity on growth of Ageratum (Ageratum houstonianum Mill., cv. Blue Field), African marigold (Tagetes erecta L., cv. Orange Boy), and Salvia (Salvia splendens F. Sello ex Ruem & Schult., cv. Red Vista) were discussed during sunrise and sunset twilight in the experiment. METHODS AND RESULTS: Supplementary lighting by blue and red LEDs for 30 (Treatment B30; R30) or 60 (Treatment B60; R60) min. per day were established in greenhouse conditions. Photosynthetic photon flux for supplementary radiation was kept at $15{\mu}mol\;m^{-2}\;s^{-1}$ on the culture bed. Natural condition without supplementary light was considered as a control. The highest shoot and root dry weights were shown in African marigold exposed by red light for 60 min. per day. Supplementary blue and red lighting regardless of the radiation time significantly stimulated development of lateral branches in African marigold. Stem growth in Ageratum and Salvia seedlings was significantly promoted by red radiation as well as natural light. CONCLUSIONS: Extending of the radiation time at sunrise and sunset twilight using LEDs stimulated reproductive growth of flowering plant species. Different characteristics on growth under supplementary blue or red lighting conditions were also observed in the seedlings during supplementary radiation.

Effect of Chip Wavelength and Particle Size on the Performance of Two Phosphor Coated W-LEDs

  • Most commercial white LED lamps use blue chip coated with yellow emitting phosphor. The use of blue excitable red and green phosphors is expected to improve the CRI. Several phosphors, such as $SrGa_2S_4:Eu^{2+}$ and $(Sr,Ba)SiO_4:Eu^{2+}$, have been suggested in the past as green components. However, there are issues of the sensitivity and stability of such phosphors. Here, we describe gallium substituted $YAG:Ce^{3+}$ phosphor, as a green emitter. YAG structures are already accepted by the industry, for their stability and efficiency. LEDs with improved CRI could be fabricated by choosing $Y_3Al_4GaO_{12}:Ce^{3+}$ (green and yellow), and $SrS:Eu^{2+}$ (red) phosphors, along with blue chip. Also, the effect of a slight change in chip wavelength is studied, for two phosphor-coated w-LEDs. The reduction in particle size of the coated phosphors also gives improved w-LED characteristics.

질화갈륨 기반 청색 고체 발광 다이오드에서의 스트레스 영향 해석 (Analysis of Stress-Induced Effect in Blue GaN-Based Light-Emitting Diodes)

  • It was proven that the light outputs of blue GaN-based light-emitting diodes (LEDs) was seriously influenced by the application of external stress. We have simulated the wave function overlap of an electron and hole, which are significantly reduced by the development of stress. Consequently, its internal quantum efficiency decreased from 67.0% to 37.5%. To experimentally investigate the effect of stress, we designed and prepared a special zig system. By applying external tensile stress to compensate for the compressive stress innately developed in Blue LEDs, it was found that the optical output was greatly enhanced from 83.1 mcd to 117.2 mcd at a current of 100 mA, an increase of approximately 41%. In contrast, when the compressive stress is developed more by external compressive stress, we observed that the light output power was reduced from 89.0 mcd to 80.7 mcd, a decrease of approximately 9.3%.

Response of Growth and Development of Young Tomato Plants to End-of-day Monochromatic Light from Various LEDs

  • Plant growth and development strongly influenced by light quantity and its spectral composition. Young tomato plants were cultivated in growth cabinets under artificial light provided by red and blue light emitting diodes(LEDs) during 12 hours, then plants were exposed to monochromatic ultraviolet, blue, green and red lights as an end-of-day(EOD) treatment during 4 hours to study their effect on plant growth parameters. EOD lighting from various LEDs increased total fresh and dry weights as well as assimilation area compared to those in control. Blue light increased stem height, internode length and stem diameter. Monochromatic UV-A light reduced stem elongation, highly increased stomatal conductance. Compactness and health index of young tomato plants were increased in UV-A and red light treatments.
