Blu-ray Disc 대응 Pickup 개발 (The Development of Optical Pickup System for Blu-ray Disc)

  • We developed an optical pickup system which is used fer Blu-ray Disc. A liquid crystal element was used to make compensation for spherical aberration. Spherical aberration is a difficult problem in the optical pickup system for Blu-ray Disc. To reduce the effects of wavelength variation from the laser source, we designed a diffraction optical element. We took a measurement of all of the parts used to make a pickup system and validated the performance of each part. Then, we made a performance test fur the optical pickup system which we developed for Blu-ray Disc and the results were satisfactory.

  • In this paper, experimental methods about the flow behavior of thin polymer film by various edge patterns in the spin coating process for stable cover layer coating of a blu-ray disc is described. The blu-ray disc, a next-generation optical disc format over 25GB, consists of a 1.1m thick substrate and a 0.1mm tick cover layer. Generally, cover layer on the blu-ray disc is made by the polymer spin coating process. However, it is hard to secure sufficient coating uniformity around the rim on the cover layer. In order to get the uniform thickness deviation and to minimize the bead around the rim, the edge of the disc substrate can be modified into various patterns, such as normal plain, trench, step and chamfer pattern, etc, around the rim on the disc and experimented with various parameters, such as surface tension, viscosity, coating time, temperature and rotation speed, etc. And the optimal shape of the rim was tried to get by 3 dimensional computer simulation of the polymer expulsion process.

  • In this paper, a computational and experimental analysis about the flow behavior of thin polymer film in the spin coating process for stable cover layer coating of a blu-ray disc is described.   • We develop a plastic object lens for blu-ray disc playing pick-up module as morethan 0.85 numerical aperture in this research. We design plastic object lens for blu-ray disc playing pick-up module's each factor's in balanced and made our designed lens by injection molding. Furthermore, by correction designing in mold-core, we optimization our lens efficiency as world grade; wave front aberration $0.028{\lambda}$. RMS, light axis differential 0.3967arcmin. We can manufacture localized blu-ray disc's pick-up lens's component and by this fact we obtain international competitiveness. The result of this research will be very helpful to develop a single objective lens for 3 different wavelength of laser diodes in playing and recording pick-up module.

  • We have developed an optical pickup head for blu-ray disc. We have adopted a liquid crystal panel to compensate thickness difference of cover layer. By disposing DVD/CD compatible objective inside the BD objective in disc radial direction, we could realize a backward compatibility. Furthermore we have inserted a polarization diffractive optical element to reduce the influence from the other layer in BD dual layer.

Eutectic-based Phase-change Recording Materials for 1-2X and 4X Speed Blu-ray Disc

  • We report some recent results in the rewritable Blu-ray Disc with enhanced overwrite cyclability by using the growth dominant eutectic based Ge(Sb70Te30)+Sb recording layer, GeN interface layer and write strategy optimization. We have developed phase-change optical media with appropriate write strategy for 36(i.e., 1X)-72Mbps(i.e., 2X) dual speed Blu-ray Disc system and fur the future high speed optical data storage. For recording layer, eutectic-based Ge(Sb70Te30)+Sb material was used and Sb/Te ratio and Ge content were optimized to obtain proper erasability and archival stability of recorded amorphous marks. The recording layer is wrapped up in GeN interface layers to obtain overwrite cyclability and higher crystallization speed. In addition, we designed appropriate write strategy so called Time-Shifted Multipulse (TSMP) write strategy where starting position of multipulse parts are shined from reference clock. With this write strategy, the jitter characteristics of the disc was improved and we found that leading edge jitter was improved much more than trailing edge jitter in 1X-2X speed recording. Finally, we investigated the higher speed feasibility of 144Mbps(i.e., 4X) by adopting some elemental doping to the eutectic based Ag-In-Sb-Te recording layer and structural optimization of constitution layers in Blu-ray Disc. In the paper, we report the effect of Sn addition for the feasibility of higher speed recording. The addition of Sn shows increases of the crystallization speed of phase change recording layer.

  • Recently, an optical disc system has been proposed using blue laser diode, high NA objective lens and groove only disc structure. A new method is needed to readout CD and DVD in this Blu-Ray Disc Recorder. In order to readout CD and DVD in Blu-Ray Disc Recorder, we adopted dual-lenses actuator in consideration of optical utilization efficiency, optical performance and insurance of sufficient W.D(working distance). This dual-lenses actuator has two objectives in radial direction, one is for CD/DVD and the other is for BD. We had to solve the induced problems of collision between disc and lens, DC tilt increase, AC tilt increase, 2nd resonance deterioration and AC sensitivity drop caused by disposing two lenses in an actuator. Also we developed high response twin- objective actuator with radial tilt function to apply high-speed BD Recorder or BD Player. Consequently we presented that two kinds of dual-lenses actuators for BD Recorder have been possessed good performance in 3 axis directions. And we measured eye patterns of CD, DVD and BD by using one BD optical pick-up with dual-lenses actuator.

  • A Blu-ray disc, which has a more than 25GB optical capacity, has been known as a promising next-generation optical disc format. It commonly has a 1.1 mm thick substrate and a 0.1 mm thick cover layer for beam transmitting and the protection of the reflecting surface. The cover layer is generally formed by the spin coating process. However, in conventional spin coating, small bumps are formed along the rim of the disc, which results in the fatal reading error. Numerical simulation of the thin film flow behaviors during spin coating with the commercial solver and optimal spinning conditions was obtained. Thickness distribution of the cover layer according to the variation of substrate's edge shape could be calculated as well. By modifying the shape of the substrate edge shape, the bumps along the disc rim could be minimized, and it was proved that the chamfered edge, around $5{\sim}10$ degree, is the simplest and most effective way to minimize the bumps.

  • 본 논문에서는 blu-ray 디스크 드라이버의 트랙킹 서보시스템에 대하여 플랜트와 제어기의 불확실성을 보상하는 견실비약성 $H^{\infty}$ 상태궤환 제어기 설계방법을 제안한다. 플랜트와 제어기의 불확실성을 매개변수화 선형행렬부등식(PLMI: parameterized linear matrix inequality)을 이용하여 구조화된 불확실성의 형태로 표현하며, Lyapunov 함수를 이용하여 구조적인 제어기의 이득섭동을 고려한 견실비약성 $H^{\infty}$ 상태궤환 제어기가 존재할 충분조건 및 제어기 설계방법을 PLMI의 형태로 제안한다. 또한, 완화기법(relaxation technique)을 통하여 PLMI를 유한개의 LMI의 형태로 변환하여 견실하고 최적화된 제어기 이득과 제어기 섭동 범위를 계산하고, 모의실험을 통해서 제시된 제어기의 타당성 및 견실성(robustness)과 비약성(non-fragility)을 검증한다.

  • 본 논문에서는 Blu-ray 디스크의 기록을 위한 Laser Diode의 온도특성을 고려한 기록품질의 개선방법에 대해 연구했다. 주변 온도변화에 따라 Blu-ray Laser Diode는 전류-전압 관계로부터 미분저항이 변화하게 되는데 이러한 미분저항이 저온에서 기록품질에 미치는 영향에 대해 분석하고 개선하는 방법을 제안한다.
