This paper was studied to understand the characteristics of heat transfer coefficients and surface temperature distributions around a circular combustion chamber within the heat-intercept duct of kerosene fan heater. The experiment was carried out in the heat-intercept duct of kerosene fan heater attached to the blow-down-type subsonic wind tunnel with a test section of 240 mm * 240 mm * 1200 mm. The purpose of this paper was to obtain the basic data related with normal combustion for new design from conventional kerosene fan heater, and to investigate the effect of surface temperature, local and mean heat transfer coefficients versus flow-rate of convection axial fan according to the variations of heat release conditions from kerosene fan heater during normal combustion. Consequently it was found that (i) the revolution of convection axial fan during combustion had a smaller value than that of non-combustion because of the thermal resistance due to the high temperature in the heat-intercept duct, (ii) the pressure ratio P$_{2}$/P$_{1}$ had a comparatively constant value of 0.844 according to the revolution increase of turbo fan and the heating performance of kerosene fan heater had a range of 1,494 ~ 3,852 kcal/hr, (iii) the local heat transfer coefficient around a circular combustion chamber had a comparatively larger scale in the range of 315 deg. < .theta. < 45 deg. than that in the range of 90 deg. < .theta. < 270 deg. as a result of heat transfer difference between front and back of a circular combustion chamber, and (iv) the mean heat transfer coefficient around a circular combustion chamber increased linearly like a H$_{m}$=95.196Q+104.019 in condition of high heat release according to the increase of flow-rate of axial fan.n.
Background Facial hypoesthesia is one of the most troublesome complaints in the management of facial bone fractures. However, there is a lack of literature on facial sensory recovery after facial trauma. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the facial sensory recovery period for facial bone fractures using Neurometer. Methods Sixty-three patients who underwent open reduction of zygomatic and blowout fractures between December 2013 and July 2015 were included in the study. The facial sensory status of the patients was repeatedly examined preoperatively and postoperatively by Neurometer current perception threshold (CPT) until the results were normalized. Results Among the 63 subjects, 30 patients had normal Neurometer results preoperatively and postoperatively. According to fracture types, 17 patients with blowout fracture had a median recovery period of 0.25 months. Twelve patients with zygomatic fracture had a median recovery period of 1.00 month. Four patients with both fracture types had a median recovery period of 0.625 months. The median recovery period of all 33 patients was 0.25 months. There was no statistically significant difference in the sensory recovery period between types and subgroups of zygomatic and blowout fractures. In addition, there was no statistically significant difference in the sensory recovery period according to Neurometer results and the patients' own subjective reports. Conclusions Neurometer CPT is effective for evaluating and comparing preoperative and postoperative facial sensory status and evaluating the sensory recovery period in facial bone fracture patients.
When 'rational' is understood to be 'complying with the principles of reason', we can discern two kinds of rationality---one is what may be called 'instrumentally rationality', which is involved in achieving an already fixed goal most effectively, and the other 'goal-directed' rationality, which we should have recourse to in finding out the desirable goals. The critical situations in the age of science is thought to be closely related with the fact that the 'goal-directed' rationality has been discarded as nonsensical. The goal-directed rationality was dealt a severe blow in the latter part of the last century, when the rationality of science was challenged by the scientific relativists. This paper investigates the possibility of making sense of the goal-directed rationality in the modern age of science.
Background: A transcaruncular approach is typically used for reconstructions of medial wall fractures. However, others reported that a transconjunctival approach was conducive for securing an adequate surgical field of view. In this study, we aimed to examine the extent of repair of medial wall fracture via a transconjunctival approach. Methods: We retrospectively reviewed the medical records of 50 patients diagnosed as having medial wall fracture via preoperative computed tomography and who underwent surgery between March 2011 and February 2014. The fracture location was defined by dividing each of the anterior-posterior and superior-inferior distances into three compartments. Results: A transcaruncular approach was used in 7 patients, while the transconjunctival approach was performed in the remaining 43 patients. The transconjunctival approach enabled a relatively broad range of repair that partially included the front and back of the medial wall, and was successful in 86% of the entire study population. Conclusion: It is known that more than 50% of total cases of the medial wall fracture occur mainly in the middle-middle portion, a majority of which can be reconstructed via a transconjunctival approach. We used a transconjunctival approach in identifying the location of the fracture on image scans except for cases including the fracture of the superior portion in patients with medial wall fracture. If it is possible to identify the location of the fracture, a transconjunctival approach would be an useful method for the reconstruction in that it causes no damages to the lacrimal system and is useful in confirming the overall status of the floor.

The objective of this study was to prove possible effects of a habitable place for fish around semi-submersible drilling rig which measured underwater radiated noise, irradiance distribution of rig's light and conducted experimental fishing in Malaysia territory and observed for distribution of fishes around the rig by ROV during drilling operation in the East Sea of Korea. As a result underwater radiated noise was $130dB/{\mu}Pa$ from 156.25 to 187.50 Hz, irradiance distribution of light was between 21.5 and 43.1 lx. Despite this result, underwater radiated noise was not a threat to fish around rig and low irradiance distribution of light also played a role in the luring influence of the fishes at night. Fish showed up in the beginning of drilling operation and at the end of drilling operation. However, there are few fish in the midst of drilling operation. The main reason for this result was the destruction of the habitable place due to blow out mud and broken pieces of ground formation in drilling hole. The results are expected to contribute to reasonable fishery management around rig.

Accident statistics shows that the portion of fatal occupant injuries due to side impacts is considerably high. The side impact usually leads to a severe intrusion of side structure into the passenger compartment. Furthermore, the safety zone for the side impact is relatively small compared to the front impact. Those kinds of physics for side impact frequently result in a fatal injury for the occupant. Therefore, NHTSA and EEVC are trying to intensify the regulation for the occupant protection against side impact. Both the regulation and recent market trends are asking for an installation of side airbag. There are several types of system configuration for side impact sensing. In this paper, we adopt the acceleration-based remote sensing method for the side airbag control system. We mainly focus on the development of hardware and crash discrimination algorithm of remote sensing unit. The crash discrimination algorithm needs fast decision of airbag firing especially for high-speed side impact such as FMVSS 214 and EEVC tests. It is also required to distinguish between low-speed fire and no-fire events. The algorithm should have a sufficient safety margin against any misuse situation such as hammer blow, door slam, etc. This paper introduces several firing criteria such as acceleration. velocity and energy criteria that use physical value proportional to crash severity. We have made a simulation program by using Matlab/Simulink to implement the proposed algorithm. We have conducted an algorithm calibration by using real crash data for 2,500cc vehicle. The crash performance obtained by the simulation was verified through a pulse injection method. It turned out that the results satisfied the system requirements well.

This is an experimental study conducted to visualize the nucleate boiling phenomena and flow regimes occurring inside the liquid pool in a closed two-phase thermosyphon. To meet this purpose, an annular-type thermosyphon was designed and manufactured using a glass tube and a stainless steel tube, being assembled axisymmetrically. The heat to be supplied to the working fluid is generated within a very thin layer of stainless steel tube wall by applying a high frequency electromagnetic field through the induction coil, axisymmetrically set around the evaporator zone. Some important results were as follows ; 1) Considering the structural complexity of the tested thermosyphon, it showed good performance for the range of heat flux 2< q" <25kW/$m^2$ and saturation vapor pressure, 0.1<Pv<1.1bar 2) different type of nucleating boiling regimes were observed as described below, -Pulse boiling regime : Flow pattern changed cyclically with time during 1 cycle of pulse boiling process. The onset of Nucleation was followed by expulsive growing of vapor bubble, resulting in the so called blow-up phenomenon, massive expulsion of large amount of liquid around the bubble. -Transient : Some spherical vapor bobbles were observed growing out from 2~3 nucleating sites, that was dispersed at the lower part of the heated tube wall in the liquid pool. But the rest upper region above the nucleating sites were filled with churns or bubbles of vapor. -Continuous nucleate boiling regime : The whole zone of evaporator was filled with lots of spherical vapor bubbles, and the bubbles showed tendency to decrease in diameter as the heat flux increased.ased.
Purpose: In surgical treatment of the medial orbital wall fractures, restoring the original position of the orbital wall is difficult in some cases. Under such condition, the orbital wall is often reconstructed with synthetic material, without bony reduction, which is considered to be the conventional reconstruction. The purpose of this study is to compare the outcomes of anatomical reconstruction, which restores the bony wall to the anatomical position, from that of the conventional reduction in the isolated medial orbital wall fractures. Methods: Thirty patients, who underwent reconstruction surgery for the isolated medial orbital wall fractures from March 2007 to August 2011, were reviewed retrospectively. The surgical outcomes of two groups, the conventional reconstruction group (15 patients) and the anatomical reconstruction group (15 patients), were studied in 2 measurements, a one day before and 6 months after the surgery. The changes of orbital volume were calculated by the images from a computed tomography scan and enophthalmos was measured by a Hertel exophthalmometer. Results: The orbital volume ratio was decreased by an average of 1.05% in the conventional reconstruction group, while in the anatomical reconstruction group, the ratio decreased by 5.90% (p<0.05). The changes in the Hertel scale were 0.20 mm in the conventional reconstruction group, and 0.70 mm in the anatomical reconstruction group. However, the difference in the Hertel scale was statistically insignificant (p>0.05). Conclusion: In conclusion, the anatomical reconstruction technique of the isolated medial orbital wall fracture results in a better outcome than that of the conventional reconstruction, in terms of restoring of the original orbital volume and anatomic position. Thus, it can be considered as a useful method for the isolated medial orbital wall fractures.

Background: We have reported orbital wall restoration surgery with primary orbital wall fragment in pure blowout fractures using a combination of transorbital and transnasal approach in pure blow out fractures. However, this method was thought to be difficult to use for complex orbital wall fractures, since the sharp screw tip that fixate the maxillary wall increases the risk of balloon ruptures. In this study, we reviewed 23 cases of complex orbital fractures that underwent orbital wall restoration surgery with primary orbital wall fragment and evaluated the result. Methods: A retrospective review was conducted of 23 patients with complex orbital fracture who underwent orbital restoration surgery with primary orbital wall fragments between 2012 and 2019. The patients underwent orbital wall restoration surgery with primary orbital wall fragment with temporary balloon support. The surgical results were evaluated by the Naugle scale and a comparison of preoperative and postoperative orbital volume ratio. Complex fracture type, type of screw used for fixation and complications such as balloon rupture were also investigated. Results: There were 23 patients with complex orbital fracture that used transnasal balloon technique for restoration. 17 cases had a successful outcome with no complications, three patients had postoperative balloon rupture, two patients had soft-tissue infection, and one patient had balloon malposition. Conclusion: The orbital wall restoration technique with temporary balloon support can produce favorable results when done correctly even in complex orbital wall fracture. Seventeen cases had favorable results, six cases had postoperative complications thus additional procedure seems necessary to complement this method.
