Effects of Dried Persimmon Snacks on Alcohol Metabolism in Men

  • Persimmon has been known to help alcohol intoxication in Korea for a long time and is prepared as a processed food. The effect of dried persimmon snacks on alcohol metabolism was determined in vivo. Eight Korean men (25~27 years old) were administered 3.5 mL/kg of alcohol (22.5%, w/v) with or without a dried persimmon snack (2g/kg). The levels of alcohol in the blood and of acetaldehyde in the blood and the urine were determined by alcoholmeter and assay using alcohol dehydrogenase and HPLC, respectively. All subjects showed decreased levels of alcohol in blood, and six subjects showed a decrease of alcohol in urine after consumption of ethanol with dried persimmon snacks. Concentration of acetaldehyde in the blood an urine decreased significantly in three and five of the eight subjects, respectively. Reduction was more significant for alcohol than for alcohol than for acetaldehyde with administration of ethanol and dried persimmon snacks. This in vivo result suggests that dried persimmon snacks are effective in decreasing th concentration of alcohol after alcohol intake.

A Study on the Effects of Turmeric Intake after Weight Training on Blood Alcohol Concentration

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of turmeric intake and weight training on blood alcohol concentration, liver enzyme levels of and their effects on health promotion in adult males. There was no significant difference of taking turmeric powder combined with weight training exercise on blood alcohol levels in adult men who consumed alcohol on a regular basis. There was also no change on the change of body composition. The results were collected from elite athletes that had spent more than 10 years in their respective sports so it is difficult to observe any significant results from 8 weeks, short-term exercises of 1RM 70~80%, 3 times per week. In the next study, it is necessary to divide the subjects into more diverse groups and subject them by varying amounts of turmeric intake, exercise, etc., in order to fully study and understand the effects on blood alcohol level, change, and health promotion. Consequently, this study demonstrated there were no significant differences in the effects of continuous drinking habits of adult men's turmeric powder intake and weight training exercise on changes in GOT, GPT, γ-GTP, and blood alcohol concentrations. Moreover, health improvements themselves didn't affect changes in body composition.

  • Alcohol is the most widely psychoactive drug and has known in almost all civilization since ancient time. Recently increase consuming alcoholic beverages, alcohol is on of the major public health problems in the world. Alcohol dehydrogenase (ADH) and aldehyde dehydrogenase (ALDH) play important roles in the metabolism of alcohols and aldehydes. The drink consists of medicinal herbs, Puerariae Radix, Phyllostachyos Folium, Citri Pericarpium, Polygonati Rhizoma, Rehmanniae Rhizoma (Vinegar), which have been widely used in oriental medicine. This study was designed to investigate effects of medicinal herbal drink (MHD) on alcohol metabolism in drunken SD rats subjects. In experiment, rats were treated to ethanol (EtOH, 3 g/kg, PO) at 60 min. after saline (CON) or MHD (1 ml/kg, PO) administration. The blood alcohol concentration (BAC), blood acetaldehyde concentration (BALC) activities of ADH, ALDH, AST and ALT were significantly decreased in MHD group than in control group as a time-dependent manner. And drinking water volume in MHD group with duplicate treatment, were significantly decreased than in CON group. These results suggested that MHD intake could give an influence upon the reduction in BAC and BALC may alleviate acute ethanol-induced hepatotoxicity by altering alcohol metabolic enzyme activities.

음주 후의 혈중알코올농도 변화의 재현성에 관한 연구 (A study on the reproducibility of blood alcohol concentration - time profile of an individual)

  • 본 연구에서는 음주 후 시간경과에 따른 혈중알코올농도 변화의 재현성을 실험하였다. 5명의 한국인 자원자에게 22%(v/v) 소주 한병(ethyl alcohol로 환산했을 경우 55.5 g)을 30분 안에 나눠 마시게 하는 실험을 5회 반복하였다. 자원자들에게는 안주로 회와 탕수육을 교대로 제공하였다. 알코올 섭취량과 섭취시간을 일정하게 유지했음에도 불구하고 혈중알코올농도가 최고에 이르는 시간과 그 때의 농도 및 시간경과에 따른 혈중알코올농도의 감소율은 사람에 따라 큰 차이를 보였다. 또한 안주에 따라서도 시간 변화에 따른 혈중알코올농도 변화곡선이 달라지는 것을 확인할 수 있었다. 동일인에게 5회에 걸쳐 각기 다른 날 동일한 조건으로 음주하게 한 후 혈중알코올농도 변화곡선을 관찰한 결과, 시간경과에 따른 혈중알코올농도변화는 재현성이 없이 나타나는 것을 확인하였다. 또한 특정 시간대의 혈중알코올농도를 정확하게 역추정하는 것은 불가능하다는 것을 알 수 있었다.

표고버섯의 항산화능과 알코올분해능에 미치는 영향 (Antioxidant Activities and the Effect of Reducing Serum Alcohol Concentration of Lentinus edodes)

  • Objectives : The purpose of this study is to evaluate antioxidant activities and reducing serum alcohol concentration of extract of Lentinus edodes on the alcohol administered rats. Methods : Antioxidant effect was measured by total phenolic compound and DPPH-radical scavenging activity of extract of Lentinus edodes in vitro. Blood alcohol concentration, aldehyde concentration, malondialdehyde concentration, glutathion concentration were measured in vivo. Results : The extract of Lentinus edodes increased DPPH-radical scavenging activity dose-dependently. The water extract with boiling water showed lower antioxidant activity and phenolic content than 70% ethanol extract in vitro. Blood alcohol concentration was significantly reduced by pre-treatment of ethanol extract of Lentinus edodes. The effect was more significant than commercial product used as a positive control. Conclusions : This study suggest that Lentinus edodes can be a potential nature resource for the management of ethanol toxicity although the mechanism of action involved in the treatment remains to be explored.

혈중알콜농도에 따른 신체반응속도 및 변화연구 (A Study on Speed and Changes of Physical Reaction due to Alcohol Intake)

  • 신체나 정신적으로 건강한 남자 대학생 15명을 대상으로 시판 소주(25%)를 식사 후 $3{\sim}4$시간 지나서 체중 kg당 ethyl alcohol 1ml(60kg 체중의 경우 소주 4잔, (240ml 또는 맥주 $2\frac{1}{5}$병 정도)되도록 마시게 한 후 시간별(5, 30, 60, 90분)로 Alcohol Sensor 100을 사용하여 호기로 혈중알를농도를 측정하고 선택반응시간검사(교통 신호등 반응시간검사), 눈과 손의 협동능력기능검사 및 연속가산에 의한 계산능력기능검사를 술을 마신 후 시간별로(5, 30, 60, 90분) 실시하여 다음과 같은 결과를 얻었다. 1. 술을 마셨을 때의 호기로 측정한 혈중알콜농도는 술(소주)을 마신 후 5, 30, 60, 90분에 중량백분율로서 각각 0.16%($160{\pm}57mg/100ml$), 0.10%($100{\pm}42mg/100m1$), 0.08%($80{\pm}36mg/100m1$), 0.03%($30{\pm}24mg/100m1$)로서 음주직후인 5분후에 0.16%로서 가장 높은 농도를 보였고 그 후는 점차 떨어져 30분, 60분에는 0.10%와 0.08%로 나타났다. 그리고 술을 마신 직후 호기로 혈중알콜농도를 측정할 경우 실제 혈중알콜농도보다 높게 나타날 가능성이 있다. 2. 선택반응시간검사(교통신호반응시간 검사 : 즉 빨간 정지신호를 보고 브레이크를 밟는 시간)에서는 혈액중 알콜농도가 증가함에 따라 반응시간이 길어졌으며, 술을 마신후 혈중농도가 0.16%, 0.10%, 0.08%를 보인 5분, 30분, 60분에서는 음주전보다 유의하게 늦어졌으며, p<0.01, 음주후 5분과 30분 후에는 0.46초 및 0.44초로서 음주전의 0.40초보다 0.06초와 0.04초 늦어졌다. 3. 눈과 눈의 협동능력검사에서는 혈중알콜농도가 높아감에 따라 작업수행의 정확도가 떨어졌는데 혈중농도가 0.08% 이상을 보인 음주후 5분과 30분, 60분후(p<0.05)에는 유의하게 협동능력이 떨어졌다. 4. 연속가산검사에서는 계산능력이 혈중농도가 0.08% 이상에서 계산의 정확성과 속도가 유의하게 떨어졌다.

알코올 섭취와 혈중 비타민 D 그리고 납 농도 사이의 관련성: 2010-2012년 국민건강영양조사 자료를 이용하여 (Association of among alcohol consumption and blood vitamin D and lead concentrations: Based on 2010-2012 Korea national health and nutrition examination survey)

  • 본 연구는 알코올 섭취와 혈중 비타민 D 그리고 납 농도 사이의 관련성을 알아보고자 하였다. 제5기 국민건강영양조사 자료에서 20세 미만, 비타민 D와 중금속 혈액검사 미실시자, 음주력에 관한 설문 무응답자, 현재 유병자를 제외한 성인 4,074명을 대상자로 선정하였으며, 일반적 특성과 알코올 섭취량에 따른 비타민 D와 납의 농도는 t-test와 ANOVA로 검정하였고, 알코올 섭취량과 비타민 D 및 납 농도의 관련성을 보기위해 상관관계 분석을 실시하였으며, 비타민 D가 납 농도에 미치는 영향을 보기위해 다중회귀분석을 실시하였다. 상관관계 분석 결과, 알코올 섭취는 혈중 비타민 D와 납 농도에 양의 관련성(p<0.01)을 나타냈고, 회귀분석 결과는 연령(p<0.01), 학력(p<0.01), 직업(p<0.05), 알코올 섭취량(p<0.01), 혈중 비타민 D(p<0.05)가 납 농도에 유의한 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 알코올 섭취는 비타민 D와 납의 농도를 동반 상승시키고 또한 비타민 D는 혈중 납 농도 상승에 기여하지만, 역으로 납의 영향에 의해 비타민 D 대사 활동은 부정적인 영향을 받는다.

경계수준의 고지혈증 중년 남성의 생활 습관 및 영양상태와 혈중 지질수준과의 관계 (Relations of Life Style, Nutrient Intake, and Blood Lipids in Middle-Aged Men with Borderline Hyperlipidemia)

  • Hyperlipidemia and related heart disease will be growing public health problems as the population ages. It is therefore of great importance to identify modifiable risk factors. So this research investigated associations among life style, nutrient intake, and blood lipids in middle-aged men with borderline hyperlipidemia. Dietary intakes were assessed by food-frequency questionnaire and convenient method. The subject's histories of alcohol use and smoking were assessed via a questionnaire. Current smokers were classified as smokers, whereas past smokers and subjects who never smoked were classified as nonsmokers. With regard to alcohol intake, the subjects were stratified into drinkers and nondrinkers. In drinkers the frequency were measured. Frequency of alcohol intake and weight were associated with high blood lipids and blood pressure. The highest quartile of calcium intake had lower triglyceride concentration than did those in the lower three quartiles. High calcium intake was associated with low blood triglyceride concentration. These results suggest that healthy weight and high calcium intake and less alcohol intake can contribute to maintenance of healthy blood lipids in men.

타우린을 첨가한 제과제빵의 베이킹 특성과 섭취가 혈중 알코올 농도에 미치는 영향 (Baking Characteristics of Taurine Supplemented Bread and Cookies and Its Effect on Blood Alcohol Concentrations)

  • This study investigated the characteristics of baking bread and cookies supplemented with taurine and the effect of taurine addition on BAC(blood alcohol concentrations) and UAC(urine alcohol concentrations). Healthy male college students were divided into two groups, the control and the taurine group. Bread was baked with the addition of 0, 2, 4 and 6% taurine and baked with the addition 0, 3 and 6% taurine. The bread containing 2% taurine showed the fastest fermentation among the 4 groups. Fermentation and oven-spring of breads baked with a taurine concentration greater than 4% of taurine disturbed. In some areas of the sensory test, the taurine supplemented bread had higher scores than the control bread. We served 6 g of taurine supplemented cookies with 1,000 $m{\ell}$ of beer to 8 students in the taurine group. After 2 hours of drinking beer, the BAC and UAC of the taurine group were found to be lower than the control group. But no difference was found in the alcohol excretion of their urine. From this study we concluded that the taurine has an effect on the detoxication of alcohol, which reduces the BAC.

  • Spraque-Dawley계 웅성흰쥐에 계통분획한 소엽의 각 분획물을 경구투여하고 혈청 Ethanol농도와 간의 ADH활성에 미치는 효과를 검색 추적한 결과 알코올대사를 촉진시키는 성분은 주로 에탄올가용부에, 억제시키는 성분은 에탄올불용부에 주로 존재함을 추정할 수 있었고 현재 활성성분을 분리중에 있다.
