Immunostimulation Effects of Cell Wall Components Isolated from Lactobacillus plantarum

  • Immunostimulation effects of the cell wall components isolated from Lactobacillus plantarum were investigated by studying the macrophage s tumorcidal activity, splenocyte proliferation, anticomplementary activity and the inhibition of peritoneal tumor cell growth measured with ICR mice inoculated with sarcoma 180. The immunopotentiating cell wall components were a complex of peptidoglycan and exopolysaccharides. The tumorcidal activity of macrophage against Yacl and B16 tumor cells was enhanced when the cell wall components were added into the macrophage s culture medium. They also stimulated splenocytes to proliferate up to the same level as when the concanavalin A was added into the splenocyte's culture medium. The complementary activity was inhibited by 50% when the cell wall components were incubated with the sheep red blood cells treated with hemolysin and guinea pig complement. This result confirmed that the cell wall components had an antitumor effect, because the anticomplementary activity is usually accompanied by an antitumor activity at the same time. This fact was confirmed again by the inhibition of the growth of sarcoma 180 when the cell wall components were injected intraperitoneally into ICR mice inoculated with sarcoma 180. As a result, it is concluded that the cell wall components isolated from Lactobacillus plantarum had multifunctional immunostimulation effects in vitro and in vivo.

대사증후군을 동반한 허혈성 뇌혈관 질환 환자의 맥파속도에 관한 연구 (Determinants of the Brachial-ankle Pulse Wave Velocity in Patients with Metabolic Syndrome and Ischemic Stroke)

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the relation between brachial-ankle pulse wave velocity and the features of metabolic syndrome, and differences according to sex in patients diagnosed cerebral infarction. The study group comprised 61 patients over age 30 who were diagnosed cerebral infarction, accompanied with metabolic syndrome. The brachial-ankle pulse wave velocity, blood pressure, lipid profiles, fasting blood glucose, body mass index were measured. Also we checked past history of patients. Then we analyzed the association between brachial-ankle pulse wave velocity and the features of metabolic syndrome. Pearson correlation analysis reflected the variables affecting the brachial-ankle pulse wave velocity as follows : Age, SBP(systolic blood pressure), DBP(diastolic blood pressure), FBS(fasting blood glucose) were positively correlated. As a result of regression analysis, in patients with cerebral infarction accompanied with metabolic syndrome, the brachial-ankle pulse wave velocity is affected by age to men, SBP, FBS, DBP to women. The brachial-ankle pulse wave velocity is not affected by the components of metabolic syndrome, except blood pressure, FBS, in patients with ischemic stroke.

신생송아지의 봉독 처리가 혈액성상에 미치는 영향 (Effects of the blood chemistry of honeybee (Apis mellifera L.) venom on the Hanwoo calves)

  • This study was conducted to investigate effects of honeybee venom (Apis mellifera L. BV) on the calving, the growth performance and blood chemistry occurrence of Hanwoo calves. A total of twenty, a 3 day old male experimental calves were allocated into four groups, BV treated (0.05 mg/kg, 0.1 mg/kg and 0.2 mg/kg BV, n=5, respectively) and non-treated (n=5, Control) of Hanwoo calves in Icheon, Kyonggi province. Treatment of BV in calves increased body weight and weight gain during 60 days compared with control group. The concentrations of IgG in blood were significantly increased in BV groups compared with control at 60 days after treatment with BV. Cholesterol and glucose concentrations in BV group were significantly lower with control at 60 days. There were no differences in plasma biochemical components including aspartate aminotransferase (AST), alanine aminotransferase (ALT), alkaline phosphate (AKLP), total protein, albumin, globuline, total bilirubin, creatinine, blood urea nitrogen (BUN) and $Ca^+$. In conclusion, the BV treatment had effect on growth, the score of the calf scours and blood biochemical profile.

중소도시 노인들의 24주간 복합운동 프로그램이 성인병 질환자 및 정상인의 신체구성, 혈액성분, 체력에 미치는 영향 (The effects of a 24 Weeks of combined exercise programs have on physical configuration, blood components and physical strength for normal and geriatric diseased senior citizens residing in the country side)

  • 본 연구는 성인병 질환자 및 정상 노인을 대상으로 적정 강도의 유산소 운동 근력운동을 병행한 복합운동 프로그램을 24주간 실시한 후 신체구성, 혈액성분, 체력의 변화가 운동 전 후 어떠한 차이를 나타내는지 비교하고 성인병 질환자들을 위한 가장 효과적인 복합운동 프로그램을 작성하는데 목적이 있다. 이를 위하여 K도시에 거주하는 만 65세 이상의 성인병 질환자 20명과 정상노인 20명을 선정하여 이들에게 24주간의 복합 운동을 규칙적으로 실시하도록 하였다. 연구 결과로 신체구성의 변화는 성인병 집단의 경우 모두 유의하게 증가하였으나 정상인 집단은 복부지방률만 유의하게 나타났다. 혈액성분의 변화는 정상군에서 근소한 차이로 향상되는 결과를 보였으나, 유질환군과 근소한 차이를 보여 프로그램 전 후 상호작용은 유의한 차이가 없다. 프로그램 실시 전 후 근력, 각근력, 민첩성, 근지구력, 평형성에 있어 유의한 차이를 보이며 두 집단 모두 체력의 긍정적 향상 결과를 보였다. 정상인 집단에서는 건강을 유지하고 체력향상에 효과적이었고 성인병 집단에서는 질환의 예방과 악화 방지에 긍정적 요소가 나타났다고 볼 수 있다. 더불어 전 노인 인구의 50% 이상이 한 가지 이상의 성인병 질환을 가지고 있으면서도 운동의 참여도가 현저히 저하되는 현실 속에서 적극적인 운동 프로그램을 개발하여 복합운동 프로그램을 실시한다면 건강증진은 물론 삶의 질적 향상에 도움이 될 것이고 차후 보다 많은 연구가 필요할 것이라 사료 된다.

계사 내 광원이 육계 후기의 생산성, 도체수율, 육질 특성 및 혈액성분에 미치는 영향 (Effects of Light Sources in Poultry House on Growth Performance, Carcass Yield, Meat Quality and Blood Components of Finishing Broilers)

  • 본 연구는 계사 내 광원이 육계 후기의 생산성, 육질 및 혈액성분에 미치는 영향을 구명하기 위해 수행되었다. 공시동물은 육계 초생추(42.2±0.1 g) 수컷 240수를 이용하였으며, 3주령부터 광원을 백열등, LED등 및 형광등의 3처리구로 나누고, 처리구당 4반복, 반복당 20수씩 완전 임의 배치하였다. 6주 동안 사육한 후 체중이 유사한 육계(3.4±0.07 kg)의 도체수율과 육질 특성을 조사하고, 혈액 성분을 분석하였다. 시험사료는 옥수수-대두박 위주의 시판 사료를 육계 초이(CP 22.5%, ME 3,020 kcal/kg), 전기(CP 18.5%, ME 3,050 kcal/kg), 후기(CP 18%, ME 3,100 kcal/kg)로 나누어 이용하였다. 조사항목은 육계의 생산성, 도체수율, 육질 특성 및 혈액성분이었다. 본 연구의 체중, 증체량, 사료섭취량 및 사료요구율은 처리구간 유의적인 차이를 보이지 않았다. 생체중과 도체중은 처리구 사이에서 유의적인 차이가 없었으며, 도체수율은 세처리구에서 각각 77.7%, 78.2% 및 77.5%로 처리구간 유의차를 보이지 않았다. 육색, 전단력 및 보수력은 처리구간 유의차가 없었으나, 가열감량은 LED 처리구에서 가장 높게 나타났다(P<0.05). pH와 수분, 단백질, 지방 및 회분 함량은 처리구 사이에서 유의적인 차이를 보이지 않았다. 백혈구(leukocyte, WBC)의 구성 성분인 HE, Ly, MO, EO 및 BA와 스트레스를 나타내는 H/L 비율은 처리구간 유의차가 없었다. 혈액 적혈구(erythrocyte, RBC)의 구성 성분인 Hb, HCT, MCV, MCH 및 MCHC는 처리구 사이에서 유의적인 차이를 보이지 않았다. 혈액 생화학 조성 중 GLU는 세 처리구에서 각각 234.5 mg/dL, 256.9 mg/dL 및 250.1 mg/dL로 ICD 처리구에 비해 LED 처리구에서 높게 나타났다(P<0.05). 다른 혈액 생화학 성분은 처리구 사이에서 유의적인 차이를 보이지 않았다. 본 연구의 결과들은 육계 계사의 점등 연구에 대한 기초자료로서 활용될 수 있을 것으로 사료된다.

코로나19 감염증 환자의 혈전 사례를 바탕으로 본 태양병 축혈증의 병리기전에 관한 문헌고찰 (Pathological Mechanism of Taeyang Blood Retention Pattern Based on Cases of Thrombosis in Patients with COVID-19 Infection : A Literature Review)

  • COVID-19 infection heightens the risk of thromboembolism. To see the similarities between the COVID-19 infection and Taeyang blood retention pattern, we conducted a PubMed search using specific terms related to blood circulation issues in the context of COVID-19, summarizing findings from 13 cases and 4 observational studies involving actual patients. Patients with COVID-19 are at risk of blood coagulation due to factors such as viral-induced cytokine storms, vascular endothelial dysfunction, reduced mobility in bedridden or isolated individuals, and resulting constipation. Additionally, cytokine storms and severe inflammation can lead to delirium in COVID-19 patients. The Taeyang blood retention pattern manifests as symptoms arising from delirium and an increased blood coagulation tendency in patients with a robust immune response. According to the Sanghan theory, certain herbal treatments can alleviate symptoms in patients with a tight lower abdomen who do not experience urinary issues. Studies show that components like Persicae Semen and Rhei Redix et Rhizoma in these prescriptions enhance blood circulation and reduce hypercoagulability. Additionally, these treatments aim to promote blood flow by relieving abdominal pressure through facilitating bowel movements. The excessive inflammation and heightened blood coagulation tendency in COVID-19 resemble the Taeyang blood retention pattern, although they are caused by different pathogens. Reinterpreting classical oriental medicine's principles in a modern context may enhance our understanding of traditional East Asian Medicine and foster future developments.

영양과 훈련이 흰쥐의 운동지구력과 혈청성분에 미치는 효과;Selenium을 첨가한 고지방식이를 중심으로 (Effect of Nutrition and Exercise Training on the Endurance and the Serum Lipid Components in Rats;Selenium Added High Fat Diet)

  • The effects of exercise and selenium added high fat diet on edurance and serum lipid components were studied in rats. A total of 72 male Sprague-Dawley ($150{\pm}35g$, body weight) were divided into trained group and untrained group and were bred for 7 weeks. Each group had 6 different dietary subgroups; namely, basal diet, 20% shortening and 20% soybean oil subgroup and selenium (0.01mg%) added each subgroups. Exercises of 8-min treadmill running and 10-min swimming were given to the trained group every other day during the experimental period while only treadmill running was given to the untrained group during the last week. The amounts of food intake, changes in body weight and endurance were determined once a week and serum lipid components were measured before and after experimental period. Following are the results obtained : 1) The untrained group took a slightly larger amount of food than that in the trained group. The food efficiency is, however, higher in the trained group. Body weight increased more in untrained group, while high fat diet resulted in greater increment in body weight than that in normal diet groups. 2) The trained group showed remarkably longer endurance than the untrained group and selenium added high fat diet enhanced the effect. 3) The trained group showed lower blood level of T-chol., TG and TG/PL than the untrained group. All the other blood values of HDL-chol., PL, MDL-chol./T-chol., HDL/LDL and A/G ratio were higher in trained group. 4) Soybean oil added dietary groups exibited lower blood levels of T-chol., TG, TG/PL and A/G than those in shortening added dietary groups. On the contrary, the former groups showed higher blood HDL-chol., PL., HDL, HDL-chol. and HDL/LDL ratio than those of soybean oil added dietary groups. 5) $LDH_5$ was the most abundant one among serum LDH isozymes. The electrophoretic pattern of serum LDH isozymes was not changed by exercise training and selenium added high fat diet. 6) Exercise training lowered blood GOT and TBA. These effects were enhanced by soybean oil added diets. From the above results it was concluded that a regular and long term exercise training as well as a small amount of selenium added high fat diet result in reduction of body weight and TBA and improve dietary efficiency and physical endurance in rats.

탁수역에 서식하는 끄리의 조직과 혈액 성분의 변화 (The Tissues and Blood Components of Opsariichthys uncirostris amurensis in the Muddy Water Area)

  • 탁수가 어류의 아가미, 신장 및 혈액 성분에 미치는 영향을 조사하기 위하여 탁수역인 임하호와 비탁수역인 안동호에 서식하는 끄리를 비교 조사하였다. 탁수역 끄리 아가미는 부종, 상피세포의 박리 및 이차새변의 유합이 확인되었으며, 또한 새변의 간격은 불규칙적으로 배열되어 있으며 이물질의 부착이 두드러지게 관찰되었다. 신장 조직은 전반적으로 사구체가 수축되고 사구체의 기저막이 두꺼워진 형태로 확인되었으며, 보우만 주머니 안의 공간이 넓게 관찰되었다. 탁수역 끄리의 혈구 중에는 비정형으로 과립성 호산구가 주로 확인되었으며, 적혈구 수와 백혈구 수는 비탁수역 끄리에 비해 다소 많았다. 또한 혈액성분 중 TP, ALB, A/G비, TG, CHOL, AST의 함량은 상대적으로 낮게 나타났으나 무기질의 함량은 더 높은 것으로 나타났다. 또한 TP, ALB, A/G비 등은 큰 함량의 차이가 없었으나 TG, CHOL, AST은 큰 함량의 차이를 나타냈다. 결론적으로 탁수는 아가미의 곤봉화, 부종, 상피세포의 박리현상 및 신장 사구체의 수축을 초래하고 있으며, 혈구수의 증가와 혈액성분의 함량차이를 나타내고 있다. 이러한 결과로 보아 탁수는 어류의 호흡과 배설 장애등 심각한 조직, 생리적 장애를 가져 올 수 있을 것으로 사료된다.

한우 후보종모우에 Selenium과 Vitamin E 투여가 혈액성분에 미치는 영향 (Effects of Selenium and Vitamin I Administration on Blood Components in Hanwoo Young Bulls)

  • To identify an antioxidant system, Se and Vit. E were administered into Hanwoo young sire and the effects of administration on blood components(Se, Vit. E, chemical values, estradiol-17 $\beta$, testosterone) were examined. The 16 heads ranging from twenty to thirty two months of age were randomly assigned to control group, Se-administered group(Se-group), Vit. E-administered group(Vit. E-group) and Se and Vit. E administered group(Se and Vit. E-group). Each reagent (Se : 0.1 mg, Vit. E . 1,500IU, Se+vit. E : 0.1 mg+1,500IU per kg of body weight, respectively) administered 3 times every 30days by intramuscular injection. Se concentration in serum was higher in Se-group and Se and Vit. E-group than in control group and Se and Vit. E-group also was higher than Vit. E-group(p<0.05). Although all Se-, Vit. E-administered groups were a little higher than control group, the injection of Se and Vit. E were not significant effect on Vit. E concentration in serum(p>0.05). All groups showed significant variance by periods, but there were not significantly different among groups in blood chemical values. The estradiol-17 $\beta$ concentrations of all Se-, Vit. E-administered groups were a little higher than those of control group, but there were not significant(p>0.05). There have no significant difference among groups in testosterone concentration. These results indicate that the administration of Se, Se + Vit. E increase Se concentration in Hanwoo young bull.

건각탕(健脚湯) 섭취가 엘리트 장거리 달리기 선수의 유산소성 능력 향상에 미치는 영향 (Development of Herbal Drink to Improve Aerobic Capacity in Elite Endurance Runners)

  • The purpose of this study was to identify the effects of oriental herbal drink to improve aerobic capacity in elite endurance runners. 14 male elite college runners were participated and divided into two group; i ) oriental herbal drink group (OG), ii ) placebo group (PG). All subjects were completed treadmill exercise protocol using GXT at before (B) and after (A) experimental treatment of one week. The V02max, anaerobic threshold (AT) were measured by gas analysis and heart rate (HR) were measure by polar system at pre, max, post, post 30 min and post 60 min. Blood samples were collected to analyze blood components. The V02max were significantly increased in OGA compared to OGB whereas the V02max and AT in OGA were significantly higher than PGA. The blood lactate concentration were shown higher decrease rate in OGA compared to Doth OGB and PGA during recovery whereas LDH and Na were significantly increased in OGA compared to both OGB and PGA. The blood concentrations of CI and K were significantly increased in OGA compared to PGA. There were no significant differences were founded in WBC, RBC, Hct, Hb and other components associated with energy sources(glucose, TG, TC, HDL, LDL, creatinine, CPK). These results suggested that this oriental herbal drink can be administrated to improve aerobic capacity in long distance runners.
