  • This paper presents the design of high speed processor for a sequence logic control using field programmable gate array(FPGA). The sequence logic controller is widely used for automating a variety of industrial plants. The FPGA designed by VHDL consists of program and data memory interface block, input and output block, instruction fetch and decoder block, register and ALU block, program counter block, debug control block respectively. Dedicated clock inputs in the FPGA were used for high speed execution, and also the program memory was separated from the data memory for high speed execution of the sequence instructions at 40 MHz clock. Therefore it was possible that sequence instructions could be operated at the same time during the instruction fetch cycle. In order to reduce the instruction decoding time and the interface time of the data memory interface, an instruction code size was implemented by 16 bits or 32 bits respectively. And the real time debug operation was implemented for easy debugging the designed processor. This FPGA was synthesized by pASIC 2 SpDE and Synplify-Lite synthesis tool of Quick Logic company. The final simulation for worst cases was successfully performed under a Verilog HDL simulation environment. And the FPGA programmed for an 84 pin PLCC package was applied to sequence control system with inputs and outputs of 256 points. The designed processor for the sequence logic was compared with the control system using the DSP(TM320C32-40MHz) and conventional PLC system. The designed processor for the sequence logic showed good performance.

  • The effect of block sequence on the self-assembly of ABC-type triblock copolymers in the ordered state is investigated using an isothermal-isobaric molecular dynamics simulation. The block sequence has an important effect ,on the ]norphology of ABC triblock copolymers. Different morphologies are observed depending on the block sequence as well as the block composition. The triblock copolymers with the volume fraction of 1 : 1 : 1 ($f_A$=$f_B$=$f_C$= 0.33) show the three phase and four layered lamellar structures irrespective of the block sequence. The $A_{32}$$B_{16}$$C_{32}$triblock copolymer with $f_B$=0.2 shows a morphology In which cylinders of midblock B are formed at the interface between A and C lamellae, whereas the morphology of triblock copolymer $B_{16}$$C_{32}$ $A_{32}$ and $C_{32}$ $A_{32}$ $B_{16}$ show a cylindrical core-shell structure and a lamellar type morphology, respectively. The $A_{20}$$B_{40}$$C_{20}$the triblock copolymer with the block B as a major component shows a tricontinuous structure, whereas both $B_{40}$$C_{20}$$A_{20}$ and $C_{20}$$A_{20}$$B_{40}$ triblock coolymers exhibit the lamellar structures. When the block B has larger volrome fraction with $f_B$=0.75, the matrix is composed of block B, and other two blocks A and C form spherical domains.

  • The mass concrete structures are generally constructed in an incremental manner by deviding the whole structures by a series of many blocks. The temperature and stress distributions of any specific block are continuously affected by the blocks placed before and after the specific block. For an accurate analysis of mass concrete structures, the sequence of all the blocks must be accordingly considered including the change of material properties with time for those blocks considered. The purpose of this study is to propose a realistic analysis method which can take into account not only the influence of the sequence, time interval and size of concrete block placement on the temperatures and stresses, but also the change of material properties with time. It is seen from this study that the conventional simplified analysis, which neglects material property changes of some blocks with time and does not consider the effect of adjacent blocks in the analysis, may yield large discrepancies in the temperature and stress distributions of mass concrete structures. This study gives a method to choose the minimum number of blocks required to obtain reasonably accurate results in analysis. The study provides a realistic method which can determine the appropriate size and time interval of block placement, and can be efficiently used in the design and construction of mass concrete structures.

  • The determination of assembly sequence in general mechanical assemblies plays an important role in terms of manufacturing cost, duration and quality. In the production of ships and offshore plants, the consideration of productivity factors and welding deformation is crucial in determining the optimal assembly sequence. In shipbuilding and offshore industries, most assembly sequence planning has been done according to engineers' decisions based on extensive experience. This may result in error-prone planning and sub-optimal sequence, especially when dealing with unfamiliar block assemblies composed of dozens of parts. This paper presents an assembly sequence planning method for block assemblies. The proposed method basically considers geometric characteristics of blocks to determine feasible assembly sequences, as well as assembly process and productivity factors. Then the assembly sequence with minimal welding deformation is selected based on simplified welding distortion analysis. The method is validated using an asymmetric assembly model and the results indicate that it is capable of generating an optimal assembly sequence.

  • We propose a novel algorithm for fractal video sequence coding, based on the circular prediction mapping (CPM), in which each range block is approximated by a domain block in the circularly previous frame. In our approach, the size of the domain block is set to be same as that of the range block for exploiting the high temporal correlation between the adjacent frames, while most other fractal coders use the domain block larger than the range block. Therefore the domain-range mapping in the CPM is similar to the block matching algorithm in the motion compensation techniques, and the advantages of this similarity are discussed. Also we show that the CPM can be combined with non-contractive inter-frame mapping (NCIM), improving the performance of the fractal sequence coder further. The computer simulation results on real image sequences demonstrate that the proposed algorithm provides very promising performance at low bit-rate, ranging from 40 Kbps to 250 Kbps.

  • The PET-PEN copolymers have been synthesized and the effect of their morphology on the physical properties of polyester flexible substrate was investigated. It was found that the block sequence of synthesized copolymer was varied depending upon DMT/NDC ratio in polymerization. Higher PET-PEN and PEN block sequence in polyester copolymer resulted in the increase of glass transition temperature and it caused the enhancement of dimensional stability as a polyester flexible substrate. The highest coefficient of thermal expansion(CTE) was obtained when DMT/NDC ratio is 50/50. Synthesized PET-PEN copolymer seems to be acceptable as a flexible substrate since it shows that their optical transmittance at 550 nm is over 80% and thermal weight loss at $280^{\circ}C$ for 1 hr is less than 0.4 wt%.

  • Motion estimation is one of the key components for high quality video coding. In this paper, a new motion estimation scheme for MPEG-like video coder is suggested. The proposed temporally adaptive motion estimation scheme consists of five functional blocks: Temporal subband analysis (TSBA), extraction of temporal information, scene change detection (SCD), picture type replacement (PTR), and temporally adapted block matching algorithm (TABMA). Here all the functional components are based on the temporal subband analysis. In this papre, we applied the analysis part of subband decompostion to the temporal axis of moving picture sequence, newly defined the temporal activity distribution (TAD) and average TAD, and proposed the temporally adapted block matching algorithm, the scene change detection algorithm and picture type replacement algorithm which employed the results of the temporal subband analysis. A new block matching algorithm TABMA is capable of controlling the block matching area. According to the temporal activity distribution of objects, it allocates the search areas nonuniformly. The proposed SCD and PTR can prevent unavailable motion prediction for abrupt scene changes. Computer simulation results show that the proposed motion estimation scheme improve the quality of reconstructed sequence and reduces the number of block matching trials to 40% of the numbers of trials in conventional methods. The TSBA based scene change detection algorithm can detect the abruptly changed scenes in the intentionally combined sequence of this experiment without additional computations.

  • It is well known that tire tread pattern has much influence on the tire pattern noise. The paper describes the method of pattern noise reduction by using the pitch sequence, both on the smooth asphalt roads and on the trenched concrete roads. The noise of tire is classified as either airborne or structure borne noise. Pattern noise through the airborne is considered as a major noise source at high speeds. As block impacting and air pumping by tread patterns are major noise source, tire pattern noise can be greatly influenced by optimal pitch sequence. The goal of this paper is to provide tire engineers with pitch sequence to reduce pattern noise effectively.

  • In this paper, we propose a PAPR-minimized sequence mapping scheme that achieves the minimum Peak-to-Average Power Ratio (PAPR) and the minimum amount of computations for the OFDM system. To reduce the PAPR, the mapping table is created with information about block index and symbol patterns of the lower signal power. When the input data sequence comes, it performed division by the block length to find the quotient and remainder. The symbol pattern of the lower signal power can be found in terms of the block index as the quotient in the mapping table and transmitted with remainder as the side information to distinguish and recover the original data sequence in the receiver. The two methods with the proposed mapping scheme are proposed in this paper. One is with mapping table to recover the O%M signal in both transmitter and receiver. The other is with mapping table only in transmitter to reduce the load and the complexity in the mobile system. We show that this algorithm provides the PAPR reduction, the simple processing and less computational complexity to be implemented for the multi-carrier system.
