Performance Analysis of Optical Line Termination System in ATM based Passive Optical Network (ATM 기반 수동 광가입자 망에서의 광선로 종단 시스템의 성능 분석)

  • This paper analyzes the performance of an optical line termination system in ATM based Passive Optical Network(PON) using the operational analysis. We analyze it using system parameters such as utilization, throughput and routing frequency based on the buffer structure in each block of ATM-PON. Furthermore, we derive the mean response time and the visit ratio of each block, and then search the bottleneck block that hinders the system performance. We found that the 622Mbps 16x16 switching block is the bottleneck block for ATM-PON. In this bottleneck block, the loss probability increases rapidly when the cell arrival rate increases.

  • Recently, a shipyard is making every effort to efficiently manage equipments of resources such as a gantry crane, transporter, and so on. So far block lifting scheduling of a gantry crane has been manually performed by a manager of the shipyard, and thus it took much time to get scheduling results and moreover the quality of them was not optimal. To improve this, a block lifting scheduling system of the gantry crane using optimization techniques was developed in this study. First, a block lifting scheduling problem was mathematically formulated as a multi-objective optimization problem, considering the minimization of travel distance at an idle state and wire replacement during block lifting. Then, to solve the problem, a meta-heuristic optimization algorithm based on the genetic algorithm was proposed. To evaluate the efficiency and applicability of the developed system, it was applied to an actual block lifting scheduling problem of the shipyard. The result shows that blocks can be efficiently lifted by the gantry crane using the developed system, compared to manual scheduling by a manager.

  • This research focused on development and application feasibility for the coalesced continuous block system in river bank protection. Most of block systems in river bank are pre cast type and have some difficulties against high velocity flood condition or high pressure load, however, the continuous block system can be applied to flood damage recover as well as environmental vegetation block system in river bank. For the application review and analysis of hydraulic condition for this block system, hydraulic physical modeling was carried out. The physical model was built as a scale of 1:50 by Froude similitude measuring the water levels and the water velocities for vegetation application or not. In consequence, the water velocities were observed to decrease meanly 10.1%, and the water depths were to increase meanly 17.8% in case of the of design flood, $Q=200m^3/sec$. To verify the hydraulic physical modeling, the numerical modeling should be conducted for a close examination of vegetation application by one or two dimensional numerical analysis as a next study.

Fundamental Stress Analysis for a Development of the Safety Block

  • The falling accidents have increased in the structure and heavy industries. Therefore, a various falling prevention systems with safety block and lanyard have been supplied in order to prevent falling accidents and acquire the long life and cost down for the maintenance. However, there are not the reliable and domestic the falling prevention system until now. Almost systems were imported from U.S.A, Japan, U.K and Germany. The structural safety of the imported safety block is satisfied sufficiently, but it has heavy weight due to the cover with the aluminum and thickness. So, many workers are not feeling themselves. Thus, the aim of this work is to develop a commercial safety block that has a light weight and strength. And the cost efficiency of the system and safety for workers also will be improved remarkably.

  • There are hundreds of ship blocks which are under the block assembly, painting, and outfitting assembly works in the pre-erection shops of shipyard. Generally, each block is planned to be processed in a pre-erection shop according to the block type by the long-term production-scheduling before six months. However, many blocks can't be processed in the planned time and the planned shop since the before and after block-processing changes or delays the planned sequential works in pre-erection shops. Therefore, it is essential to monitor the current location of each block and work in process to cope with the changed situation of pre-erection shops. Present study integrates PDA, GPS, and CDMA not only to chase the location of each block but also to exchange the pre-erection work order and the work report between the production-scheduling server and the production managers in the pre-erection shops. This study shows a prototype for the block tracing and process monitoring in the pre-erection shops.

Experimental Study on the Characteristics of Flowrate for the Intake System using the Filter Block (필터 블록을 이용한 하천용수 취수시스템의 유량특성에 관한 실험적 연구)

  • The river water intake system composed of the filter block, without installation of weirs in a channel, was proposed. To apply it to rivers, analysis of hydraulic characteristics is needed. In this study, the hydraulic experiment on the characteristics of flowrate passing through the river water intake system was carried out. The filter block was produced using riprap and stainless steel bead at the channel bottom. The experiment was carried out under various flow conditions and the flowrate passing through the intake system was measured. As the water depth approaching the intake system became deeper, the flowrate diverting to the intake system increased. As the Froude number increased, the flowrate diverting to the intake system decreased. The same trend was shown regardless of the characteristics of a filter block in the intake system. A constant discharge coefficient was shown regardless of the Froude number but it changed according to the size of a riprap and a stainless steel bead in the filter block. It was found that the discharge coefficient increases with the 0.6 power of the material size.

A Development of Ship Block Leveling System based on the Axiomatic Design (공리적 설계 기반 선체 블록 레벨링 시스템 개발)

  • In this paper the independence axiom, one of two principal axioms of axiomatic design theory, is applied to the leveling system development as an design criteria. After functional requirements and corresponding design parameters constitute an initial design matrix for the leveling system, sequence, which is compatible with the independence axiom, of the design parameters of the design matrix is determined and independent components of block leveling system are revealed. As a result of axiomatic design, system configuration related to the design sequence is developed. In order to verify and validate the developed block leveling system, test with real hull block leveling work in site by using total station which is used to acquire three dimensional coordinate of target point is performed. Comparison with measured data and output data from the block leveling system shows the system accuracy is under 1 mm so that the developed system is verified and validated to be used in site.

Characterization of the Spatial Distribution of Fracture System at the Rock Block Scale in the Granitic Area (화강암지역의 암반블록규모 단열체계 분포특성 연구)

  • To assess deep geological environment for the research and development of hish-level radioactive waste disposal, six boreholes of 3" in diameter were installed in two granitic areas. An areal extent of the rock block scale in the study sites was estimated by the lineament analysis from satellite images and shaded relief maps. The characterization of fracture system developed in rock block scale was carried out based on the acoustic televiewer logging in deep boreholes. In the Yuseong site, the granite rock mass was divided into the upper and lower zones at around -160m based on the probabilistic distribution characteristics of the geometric parameters such as orientation, fracture frequency, spacing and aperture size. Since the groundwater flow is dependent on the fracture system in a fractured rock mass, the correlation of the fracture frequency and cumulative aperture size to the hydraulic conductivity was also discussed.

  • For the research, we developed the hardware and software of the measurement system for on-line test and evaluation. The software controls the hardware of the measurement data and acts as a interface between users and the system hardware. In this paper, we studied performances of the auxiliary block for high-speed railway vehicle. In order to performance these works, the conversion system was developed. Using this system, we obtained the important results, such as voltage values for the battery charger and auxiliary block. Also, we diagnosed the faults and performed the evaluation for auxiliary block using the measurement system and data.

  • This study was performed to design the optimal block type expansion valve through analyzing the characteristics of the block type expansion valve in automotive air conditioning system using HFC-134a. Because an alternative refrigerant (HFC-l34a) is being used instead of CFC-12 for automotive air conditioning system, newly designed air conditioning components are necessary due to changes in characteristics. The performance tests were accomplished through the test bench, that is manufactured based on the study. And then it was carried out to measure the variation of temperature and pressure at each part of the air conditioning system according to the compressor speed.
