탄성 블리스터 액츄에이터를 이용한 일회용 미세유체 주입펌프 (Disposable Microfluidic Infusion Pump using Elastomeric Blister Actuator)

  • This paper presents a disposable microfluidic infusion pump using the restoring force of elastomeric membrane of Polydimethylsiloxane. Microfluidic infusion pump consists of hydraulic resistance control part, elastomeric blister actuator part, drug inlet and outlet. Expanded elastomeric blister actuator continuously pushes liquid in the chamber to outlet. At same time, microchannel diameter near the outlet was controlled by thin elastomeric membrane in hydraulic resistance control part. Eventually flow rate of infused liquid is controlled by air pressure. In experimental study, the amount of the filled liquid in the blister is precisely controlled by the height of the blister. Flow rate of infused liquid could be controlled, that is, controlled release of the drug over time was possible by adjusting hydraulic resistance and restoring pressure with the blister actuator.

Effect of Environmental Pre-treatment on Expression of Blister Rust Resistance in Pinus monticola (oral)

  • Levels of blister rust infection (from Cronartium ribicola) varied in western white pine(Pinus monticola Dougl.) seedlings grown in two nurseries in northern Idaho. This observation suggested the potential importance of environmental components operating on the blister rust pathosystem. In an experiment designed to test the influence of environmental conditions at two nurseries, seedlings of a single genetic source were unintentionally held in cold storage for 6 months longer at one nursery than at the other. Subsequently, these seedlings, which had been growing under nursery conditions for 7 months or 1 month, were inoculated with blister rust spores on September 9th, 1999. Infection efficiency measured on the seedlings with only 1 month of growth was 70X greater than on the seedlings that had 7 months for their new growth to mature. Results from this nursery test and infection levels of northern Idaho resistant selections in mild climates suggest that expression of genes related to rust resistance in western white pine can be manipulated by regulation of phonology. If so, several new molecular tools may be employed to enhance our understanding of environmental regulation of genes for blister rust resistance.

The study on the influence of surface cleanness and water soluble salt on corrosion protection of epoxy resin coated carbon steel

  • The corrosion resistance of epoxy-coated carbon steel was evaluated. The carbon steel surface was subjected to different treatment methods such as steel grit blasting and power tool treatment as well as contamination of water soluble salt. To study the effect of the surface treatments and contamination, the topology of the treated surface was observed by confocal microscopy and a pull-off adhesion test was conducted. The corrosion resistance of the epoxy-coated carbon steel was further examined by electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) combined with immersion test of 3.5 wt% of NaCl solution. Consequently, the surface contamination by sodium chloride with $16mg/m^2$, $48mg/m^2$ and $96mg/m^2$ didn't affect the adhesion strength for current epoxy coated carbon steel and blister and rust were not observed on the surface of epoxy coating contaminated by various concentration of sodium chloride after 20 weeks of immersion in 3.5 wt% NaCl aqueous solutions. In addition, the results of EIS test showed that the epoxy-coated carbon steel treated with steel grit blasting and power tool showed similar corrosion protection performance and surface cleanness such as Sa 3 and Sa 2.5 didn't affect the corrosion protectiveness of epoxy coated carbon steel.

라덱스의 물성이 도공지 품질에 미치는 상관성에 대한 연구 (Studies on the Correlation between Coated Paper and Physical Properties of Latices)

  • The coated paper was greatly affected by the basic physical properties of the binder as well as the amount of the coating formula. High glass transition temperature (Tg) of the styrene-butadiene (SB) latex, selected as the binder in our study, gave the high stiffness to the coated paper, but lowered the binding force and print gloss. The average particle size of the SB latex also greatly affected to the coated paper so that the smaller particle size improved the rheological property of the coating formula and increased the binding force and print gloss. Another property of the SBR latex, gel content, was important because when its value was small, the latex was easily deformed at the high temperature and increased air permeability to the coated paper. Therefore, the lower gel content consequently resulted in the higher blistering resistance, especially in the web paper. The larger portion of the SB latex in the coated formula improved the binding force and print gloss, but decreased the ink set-off and ink-trapping to the coated paper. The heavier coating improved optical properties such as opacity, paper gloss and paper smoothness, to the coated paper.

Cantharidin Overcomes Imatinib Resistance by Depleting BCR-ABL in Chronic Myeloid Leukemia

  • Cantharidin (CTD) is an active compound isolated from the traditional Chinese medicine blister beetle and displayed anticancer properties against various types of cancer cells. However, little is known about its effect on human chronic myeloid leukemia (CML) cells, including imatinib-resistant CML cells. The objective of this study was to investigate whether CTD could overcome imatinib resistance in imatinib-resistant CML cells and to explore the possible underlying mechanisms associated with the effect. Our results showed that CTD strongly inhibited the growth of both imatinib-sensitive and imatinib-resistant CML cells. CTD induced cell cycle arrest at mitotic phase and triggered DNA damage in CML cells. The ATM/ATR inhibitor CGK733 abrogated CTD-induced mitotic arrest but promoted the cytotoxic effects of CTD. In addition, we demonstrated that CTD downregulated the expression of the BCR-ABL protein and suppressed its downstream signal transduction. Real-time quantitative PCR revealed that CTD inhibited BCR-ABL at transcriptional level. Knockdown of BCR-ABL increased the cell-killing effects of CTD in K562 cells. These findings indicated that CTD overcomes imatinib resistance through depletion of BCR-ABL. Taken together, CTD is an important new candidate agent for CML therapy.

해수용 열교환기 적용을 위한 열분사 코팅의 침지부식특성 연구 (Study on the Immersion Corrosion Characteristics of Thermal Spray Coating for Sea Water Heat Exchanger)

  • 본 연구에서는 해수용 열교환기 적용을 위한 열분사 코팅의 침지부식 특성 및 열확산율을 조사하기 위해 실험이 수행되었다. 코팅은 아연과 알루미늄을 열분사 코팅한 뒤 실리콘 및 에폭시 수지를 추가 도포한 총 8개의 시편이며 이를 $70^{\circ}C$ 3.5%w NaCl 수용액에 2주간 침지하여 침지 전후의 부식특성 변화를 관찰하였다. 코팅의 부식특성 변화를 관찰하기 위하여 AC 임피던스 측정, SEM 촬영 등을 진행하였으며 레이저 확산법을 이용하여 침지 전후의 열확산율을 측정 및 비교하였다. 침지실험 결과로부터 실리콘 및 에폭시가 추가된 코팅 시편은 표면에 블리스터가 생성되지 않았으며 이에 실러 추가 코팅에 따른 내부식성 향상효과가 있는 것으로 확인되었다.

아연분말을 이용한 강재부식 유지보수 효율성 향상 기술 개발 (Development of Technology to Improve Maintenance Efficiency of Steel Corrosion using Zinc Powder)

  • 연구목적: 본 연구는 건축물 및 교통 시설물 등에 사용중인 강재류가 시간에 흐름에 따라 부식이 발생됨에 따라 부식된 강재의 성능을 향상시키고 유지보수 효율성을 확보하기 위해 수분 경화형 방식 코팅액을 개발하였고, 그 성능 시험을 통해 최적의 성분 배율을 결정하도록 하였다. 연구방법: 연구를 위하여 다양한 배율의 코팅액에 대해 내식성 평가, 물리적 성질 평가, 저장안전성 평가 등을 시행하여 그 결과를 분석하였다. 연구결과: 분석결과 마그네슘을 추가로 첨가한 액체에서 컷팅 부위에 발청이 거의 없어 방식효과가 우수하였고, 블리스터 발생도 거의 없어 가장 우수한 배율로 분석되었다. 결론: 본 연구를 통해 그 성능이 인정된 수분 경화형 방식 코팅액에 대해 향후 새로운 성분 배율 실험을 통한 기능 향상과 시행 확대를 위한 제도적 개선 노력이 필요하다.

내해수용 Actuator system의 내식성에 미치는 Cr+6 free 화성피막 용액적용 효과 (The effect on corrosion resistance of actuator system plated with Cr+6 free chemical conversion solution for ocean plant.)

  • actuator system은 조선, 제철, 석유화학 및 중공업 등 다양한 분야에서 각종 유량 및 공기압 등을 제어하는 밸브에 필수적으로 사용되는 핵심 부픔이다. 최근 유정 개발 등 해양구조물 설치 조절이 복잡화 되면서 본 부품이 해양산업에 사용되는 빈도가 증가하고 있다. 이 경우 본 부품이 염분이 많은 바닷물 또는 주변 환경에 직접 노출되기 때문에 내식성이 매우 엄격하게 관리되고 있다. 본 부품에 부식이 발생할 경우 control system의 작동을 지배하는 구성 품에 부식이 발생하여 actuator로서 기능을 상실하여 오동작이나 설비 가동이 중단되는 사례가 빈번하다. 현재 본 부품의 내식성 향상을 위해서는 금속기 표면에 페인트를 사용하는 방법이 가장 널리 사용되고 있는 방법이다. 이 경우 금속 표면과 도장 면과의 사이에 기포발생이나 이물질 유입 등으로 인한 밀착성이 감소되거나 blister 등으로 인하여 도장 코팅 면이 박리되는 사례가 빈번하다. 이를 방지하기 위해서 최근 고 밀착성 내식용 도장 방법을 적용하고 있으나, 이 방법으로 도장한 부품의 표면에 충격 등으로 인한 결함이 발생할 경우 pitting corrosion 등 급격한 부식이 발생하여 이에 대한 근본족인 대책 수립이 절실한 실정이다. 본 연구에서는 근본적으로 금속기 표면과 밀착성이 우수한 화성피막 용액을 이용하여 희생양극에 의한 내식성을 확보하고, 다양한 용도에 적합한 색상 도료를 화성피말 위에 적용하여 화성피막 층의 보호 및 actuator의 목적에 맞는 도장을 하였다. 희생 양극효과를 극대화 할 수 있는 최적 화성피막 층은 $15{\mu}m$이며 이때 1,000시간 이상의 내식성을 확보하였다. 이 경우 이론적인 내식 수명은 2년으로 추정할 수 있었다.

식도염(食道炎)에 대(對)한 동서의학적(東西醫學的) 고찰(考察) (The study on oriental and western medicine of esophagitis)

  • We arrived at the following conclusions after we have studied esophagitis through the literatures of oriental and western medicine. 1. The western medical causes of acute esophagitis are corrosiveness chemical material, esophageal or gastric disease, trauma, blister stomatitis, filamentous fungus infection and uremia of chronic patient etc, and the oriental medical causes are qi and blood stagnation, blood stasis and stagnation, stagnant phlegm by coldness, heating, dyspepsia and food poisoning etc. 2. The western medical causes of chronic esophagitis are malfunction of lower esophageal sphincter, esophageal tom chink and hernia, increase of gastric pressure by overeating, fatness, pregnancy and ascites etc, and the oriental medical causes are asthenic cardiac qi, hepatic qi attacking stomach by seven kinds of depression, cold-damp stagnation and insufficiency of gastric qi by overeating, excessive drinking and sexual indulgence etc. 3. The main symptoms of acute esophagitis are severe chest pain, instantly vomiting, swallowing pain etc, and chronic esophagitis are occasionally light chest pain, heart bum, anorexia, dysphagia, dizziness, general body weakness etc. These symptoms are come under thoracic obstruction, acid regurgitation, vomiting and chest pain of oriental medicine. 4. The western medical diagnoses of acute and chronic esophagitis have used radiation test, esophageal endoscopy, esophageal pressure test and biopsy etc, and the oriental medical diagnoses have used syndrome differentiation by four examination of inspection, listening and smelling examination, inquiring, pulse-taking and palpitation. 5. The western medical treatments of acute esophagitis have regarded preservation stability of esophagus as a principle, and the oriental medical treatments mainly have used expelling pathogen of expelling cold and regulating qi, cooling and removing stasis, promoting blood circulation to remove blood stasis, eliminating phlegm and regulating qi. 6. The western medical treatments of chronic esophagitis have regarded decrease flowing backward of gastric juice as a purpose, and the oriental medical treatments mainly have used strengthening body resistance of replenishing and strengthening cardioqi, dispersing stagnated hepatoqi, expelling cold and dehygrosis, invigorating stomach and nourishing qi.

자외선 차단능을 보유한 미세조류의 스크리닝 (Screening of Freshwater Microalgae for Resistance to Ultraviolet Radiation)

  • Ultraviolet-B radiation (UV-B) in sunlight causes biological damages such as erythema and blister on skin. Microalgae have been in the limelight as an attractive feedstock for manufacturing functional materials. This study focused on screening microalga with protection ability against UV-B. The microalgae were isolated from local areas on April to June 2013 as well as June 2014. The cells were grown under continuous illumination from fluorescent lamps at $136.3{\pm}2.2{\mu}E/m^2/s$ in BG-11 medium at $15^{\circ}C$ for 12-14 days. The selected cells were spread on BG-11 agar and were exposed to UV-B (312 nm) for 20 and 25 minutes. The 13 strains among selected algae were classified. Among these, 9 strains were Scenedesmus sp. and the remains were Chlorella sp. Based on this study, it seems that Scenedesmus sp. and Chlorella sp. have resistibility against ultraviolet. These results will help to study on UV protection using microalgae.
