  • Tunnels that have recently been constructed are characterized by longer length than ever before and furthermore they frequently go through the ground area with poor conditions such as fractured zones. If ground strength is weak, plastic deformation of tunnel occurs, and occasionally a big fall may be brought about. Up to now, the construction work of tunneling has been executed as a sequential method placing the lining concrete after completion of excavation. Such a method requires a long time and much money to complete the tunnel. It is hard to ensure the stability of tunnel if tunnel is left undone for a long time after excavation in fracture zones or plastic grounds. For this reason, we tried to take simultaneous construction of tunnel excavation and lining concrete in order to not only shorten construction schedule but also stabilize the tunnel at the highly fractures zone as soon as possible. As preliminary consideration for simultaneous construction, in-situ tests are performed to calculate the isolation distance over which blasting vibration does not influence the strength of lining concrete. Improvement of ling form, placing method of concrete, ventilation using a dust collector, together with equipment arrangement, was made to assure the simultaneous construction work.

  • Abstract By investigating the stress redistribution caused by the preceding cut blasting when applying the pre-splitting method to tunnel round, an attempt was made to find conditions that were favorable for the propagation of cracks in contour holes. The investigation of the direction of minor principal stress in the numerical analysis revealed that the most significant factor affecting the change of the direction was the loading condition, while the core shape, rock type, and tunnel depth seemed to be less important in determining the direction of minor principal stress. Moreover, the number of cracks tended to increase with the increase of deviatoric stress. Through the model test of pre-splitting, it is confirmed that the pre-splitting method taking the stress field into account can reduce the extent of yield zone and has advantage in controlling the direction of crack than the conventional one.

  • Recently, recycling method of waste wafer has been an area of solar cell to cut costs. Micro_blasting is one of the promising candidates for recycling of waste wafer due to their extremely simple and cost-effective process. In this paper, we attempt to explore the effect of micro_blasting and DRE(damage removal etching) process for solar cell. The optimal process conditions of micro_blasting are as follows: $10{\mu}m$ sized $Al_2O_3$ powder, jetting pressure of 400 kPa, and scan_speed of 30 cm/s. And the particles formed on micro_blasted wafer were removed by DRE precess which was performed by using HNA(HF/$HNO_3$/$CH_3COOH$) and TMAH(tetramethyl ammonium hydroxide). Structural analysis was done using a-step and the XRD patterns.

  • Variables influencing the free face movement due to rock blasting include the physical and mechanical properties, in particular the discontinuity characteristics, explosive type, charge weight, burden, blast-hole spacing, delay time between blast-holes or rows, stemming conditions. These variables also affects the blast vibration, air blast and size of fragmentation. For the design of surface blasting, the priority is given to the safety of nearby buildings. Therefore, blast vibration has to be controlled by analyzing the free face movement at the surface blasting sites and also blasting operation needs to be optimized to improve the fragmentation size. High-speed digital image analysis enables the analyses of the initial movement of free face of rock, stemming optimality, fragment trajectory, face movement direction and velocity as well as the optimal detonator initiation system. Even though The high-speed image analysis technique has been widely used in foreign countries, its applications can hardly be found in Korea. This thesis aims at carrying out a fundamental study for optimizing the blast design and evaluation using the high-speed digital image analysis. A series of experimentation were performed at two large surface blasting sites with the rock type of shale and granite, respectively. Emulsion and ANFO were the explosives used for the study. Based on the digital images analysis, displacement and velocity of the free face were scrutinized along with the analysis fragment size distribution. In addition, AUTODYN, 2-D FEM model, was applied to simulate detonation pressure, detonation velocity, response time for the initiation of the free face movement and face movement shape. The result show that regardless of the rock type, due to the displacement and the movement velocity have the maximum near the center of charged section the free face becomes curved like a bow. Compared with ANFO, the cases with Emulsion result in larger detonation pressure and velocity and faster reaction for the displacement initiation.

  • This paper presents the construction planning and the detail design of a 16.2 km long railroad tunnel in a mountainous area. Major design conditions for railroad are the single track, loop-typed alinement, and a maximum grade of 24.5$\textperthousand$. A underground station(double track) with a length of 1.1km is located in the middle of the line for train cross-passing. Tunnel is excavated in highly complex geological conditions including faulted areas, abandoned mine works areas, and various rock types such as sandstone, shale, limestone, and coal seam partly. Drilling and blasting method was adopted because it is more flexible than TBM(Tunnel Boring Machine) as a result of risk assessment for geological conditions in this area. Two working adits were planned to adjust the construction schedule and can be used for ventilation and maintenance in operation phase. New material and concept were introduced to the tunnel drain design. They are expected to improve tunnel drain condition and capability. Rational tunnel support design was tried to consider the various tunnel size and purpose and to use the geological investigation results.

  • Excavation of an opening in a saturated porous rock may lead to the development of pore pressure around the opening due to the redistribution of initial rock stresses. The built-up of pore pressure, in turn, may affect the mechanical behavior of rock mass and give the different pattern of stress distribution around the opening from that of the case where the coupling is neglected. In this study, the short time response of an opening excavated in saturated ground under anisotropic initial stress conditions was investigated numerically. Not on the wall of opening but at a short distance from the wall, the tangential stresses were peak during the short period after excavation when the hydro-mechanical coupling is considered.

  • Greening sometimes fails because its method is not suitable for various site conditions, therefore the trend of selecting a revegetation method in Korea today is through test construction. However, due to enlargement, complication and diversification of domestic construction businesses, the importance of VE is gradually increasing as effective efforts over a whole life-cycle to obtain goals such as quality improvement and cost reduction, and not only quality and economic efficiency but also substantiality need to be considered in comparing revegetation methods. For this study, Sungnam~Janghowon (area1), where comparatively various slope revegetation methods are used, was selected the investigation site. The site was divided into three areas:blasting rock, ripping rock and earth sand. The revegetation methods used were six in the blasting rock area, five in the ripping rock area, and two in the earth sand region. 2007 monitoring data was analyzed, and Value (V) was calculated with LCC related ratio, and compared and contrasted with the evaluation of prior revegetation methods. Therefore it is believed that this analysis enables selection of the most appropriate method, unbiased towards one particular characteristic such as quality, vegetation growth and economy. When aiming for a durable effect, it shall be more efficient to select the most appropriate method focusing on LCC analysis, which deals with the economic aspect, as well as the design function aspect.

  • Recently the demand of demolition for the unnecessary cylindrical silo structure is increasing due to deterioration and unsatisfactory functional conditions and the issue of demolition is becoming a major highlight. This case study introduced the explosive demolition of the cylindrical silo structure by felling method. The results of explosive demolition conducted on cylindrical silo structure using the felling method show, A silo had collapsed precisely according to estimated direction but in case of B silo there was a minor difference. The lower colunms and ring girder support was designed to the hinge line but in reality the lower colunms of the silo did not do its structural support role and only the ring girder support did its role successfully. As for the impact vibration, most of the measurements were within the estimated range.

  • In this study, a series of FEM numerical analyses was conducted to compare the resistance performance of concrete drainage protection facility to blast vibration. Two different types of ㅁ-shaped protection facility, which are suggested in the study, were compared to the traditional ㄷ-shaped one. In the analyses, the vibration resistances of the three protection facilities were evaluated under the varying conditions of the standoff distance from the explosion and charge weight per delay. As a result, it was found that the two proposed types of drainage protection facilities are superior to the traditional one in the vibration reduction performance.
