  • Most of flame furnace with uncontrolled atmosphere forms oxidation scales in the surface during heat treatment. In this case, shot blasting and pickling are commonly used for reduction of oxidation scales. These processes have many disadvantages, such as long process time, high operating cost and environmental problems due to polishing dust, etc. Hence, this study aimed to develop the advanced heat treating equipment which could make a controlled atmosphere using a heatresisting structure into the flame furnace. The analysis result with SEM, EPMA, and EDX revealed that the amount of scales formed is much less than that with the conventional flame furnace. A brightness of the sample treated with the advanced process is similar compared to the treatment with vacuum furnace. In the present work, it was recommended that the inside structure of the furnace and gas line system could made up of SBB410 and STS310, respectively. The operating cost with the advanced heat treatment system could be reduced annually by forty million won. As a result of this study, it may be possible to reduce the oxidation scales. The fundamental information obtained in this study will be useful not only for improving the heat treatment process(reduction of shot blast and cleaning process), but for promoting the manufacture of bright products.

  • Recently, lots of researches on concrete with high volume mineral admixture such as ground granulated blast furnace slag (GGBFS) have been carried out to reduce $CO_2$. It is known that the precast concrete has an advantage of high strength at early age due to steam curing, even if concrete has high replacement level of mineral admixture. However it demands the investigation of compressive strength properties according to steam curing regimens. In this study, concretes with water-binder ratio of 32, 35% and water content of 135, 150, $165kg/m^3$ were produced to investigate compressive strength properties of high volume (60% by mass) GGBFS cement concrete according to steam curing regimens. Then steam curing was implemented with the maximum temperature of 50, $60^{\circ}C$ and steaming time of 5, 6, 7 hours. From the test results, it was found that steam curing was effective to raise early strength of high volume GGBFS cement concrete, but 28 day compressive strengths of steam cured specimens were lower than those of water cured specimens. Thus, a further study would be needed for the optimum steam curing regimens to satisfy target demolded strength and specified strength for the application of high volume GGBFS cement concrete to precast concrete members.

  • An interlocking equipment of railway signalling systems is manufactured with electrical devices and electrical interlocking equipment has been substituted for existing interlock equipment(relay sequential logic type). But interlock conditions are still generated from rail diagram and used to make Interlock Table manually. In order to make EIS(Electrical Interlock System) operate, we should write interlock data which is made from interlock table. But, as the station is larger and more complicated, handwork may becomes a very tediou work and makes more mistakes. Therefore the development of CAD system for Interlocking System is very significant, if CAD can reduce the mistakes from handwork and help the configuring the interlocking system. In this paper, we first arrange some rules which can be used to extract route information automatically from rail diagram and interlocking rules. And then we propose "Search-And-Rollback" algorithm to extract route information and individual interlocking rules. The proposed algorithm is implemented and tested through the signal design process of the Hyundai-Steel private railway to carry melted pig iron from the blast furnace to the steel-making workshop. some cases. It shows that CAD for Interlocking system is very helpful in time saving aspect and system reliability.

  • High-performance concrete, besides aggregate, cement, and water, incorporates supplementary cementitious materials, such as fly ash and blast furnace slag, and chemical admixture, such as superplasticizer. Hence, it is a highly complex material and modeling its behavior represents a difficult task. This paper presents an evolutionary system for the prediction of high performance concrete strength. The proposed framework blends a recently developed version of genetic programming with a local search method. The resulting system enables us to build a model that produces an accurate estimation of the considered parameter. Experimental results show the suitability of the proposed system for the prediction of concrete strength. The proposed method produces a lower error with respect to the state-of-the art technique. The paper provides two contributions: from the point of view of the high performance concrete strength prediction, a system able to outperform existing state-of-the-art techniques is defined; from the machine learning perspective, this case study shows that including a local searcher in the geometric semantic genetic programming system can speed up the convergence of the search process.

  • In order to investigate the reaction in the system of anhydrite II-blast furnace slag, the paste hydration which made up with a liquid/solid ratio of 0.45 for 1, 3, 7, 14, 28days by the addition of accelerators to 10~30wt.% slag with natural gypsum calcined for 1hour at 500/$700^{\circ}C$ was studied by combined water determination, XRD, DTA, DSC and SEM. As a result of this experiment, it was found that hydration rate was faster in the system calcined at 50$0^{\circ}C$. Therefore the anhydrite was converted to calcium sulfate dihydrate in the hydration for 1day but the slag was not almost reacted. For the gypsum calcined at $700^{\circ}C$, the hydraton rate in the system of K2SO4 addition was faster than others in the earier period, but the activated effect of the system of Al2(SO4)3 addition was regarded as the highest over 3days. As the amount of slag was increased, they dydration rate was delayed and ettringite was observed in the case of K2SO4 system. However both Al2(SO4)3 and AlK(SO4)2 systems showed calcium sulfate dhydrate only as hydrated products.

  • The paper presents results of an investigation on the permeability characteristics and pore structure of concrete containing different levels of fly ash, silica fume, or blast furnace slag. The total cementitious content was 351kg/㎥, and the water/cementitious materials ratio was 0.55. The porosity and pore structure of representative pastes of the matrix were measured using mercury intrusion porosimetry, and the permeability characteristics of concrete were also determined by water and oxygen permeability, chloride ion penetration. The results show that significant reduction in permeability of concrete containing pozzolanic materials due to formation of a discontinuous macro-pore system which inhibits flow. And, the permeability of concrete and pore structure(capillary porosity or total porosity) shows linear relationship.

  • In order to clarify the mechanism of the hydration of supersulphated slag cement, the experiments of suspension hydration were performed in the mixtures of slag+CaSO4+water or NaOH solutions with a liquid/solid ratio of 10. The liquid and solid phase of the suspension was chemically analysed and discussed. In the slag-$CaSO_4$--NaOH system, $Al_2O_3$ was dissolved under high pH condition, and the ettringite was formed by a reaction of $CaSO_4$ and $Al_2O_3$ released in the solution. As hydration progressed, ettringite coated the surface of unhydrated slag grains and inhibited the hydration reaction of slag. $CaSO_4$ was not only an activator for slag hydration, but a reactant in the hydration.

  • Various raw materials from which iron and steel are made are unloaded from ship and then piled up at the designated yard. The equipment that piles up the raw materials is called Stacker and these materials are then dipped out and sent to unit factories such as blast furnace and cokes using the equipment called Reclaimer. The Reclaimer has an actual size of 16 meter high and 50 meter long and runs back and forth over the rail of about 1.2 km, carrying the materials to each unit factory. Until now, in most cases, Stacker and Reclaimer are manually operated. At POSCO, four workers on a shift basis sit in the operation room as shown in the picture, pile up and dip out the materials, checking them out with their own eyes ...

Above conveying vehicles are operated in all steel works area. And to trace their positions, after partitioned their areas, Automatic Vehicle Identification(RF-ID method) is installed on the railroad and identifies vehicle numbers. But AVI facilities have many problem that means that are too expensive, cost too much maintenance fee and inefficient management. This paper is to revamp those inefficient operations and state the status of operations of train positioning system, get to know what the problem is. And also when we use GPS to monitor and trace the vehicle position ...

  • This study analyzes the engineering characteristics of mortar according to admixture replacement ratios in cement mortar in a high-intensity ternary system, and changes in FA and BS combination ratios, in order to deduce the optimal combination ratio of FA and BS. Results showed that due to the characteristics of unhardened mortar, flow rate increased with the increase in admixture replacement and FA combination ratios, whereas air quantity decreased and setting time was delayed. Due to the characteristics of light mortar, compression strength decreased at early material ages as the overall combination ratio of FA increased. The FA : BS combination ratio was 2 : 3 on day 28 of material age, proving the best and potentially optimal combination ratio.
