  • BLAISE, a information communication system England, has been developed steadily and expanded a network to the European countries, which reflects recognition of library at national level. In Japan, NACSIS has been established by a financial support from Ministry of Education and very active in networking throughout the nation. The development policy of their countries. In this study it is introduced a new concept, bibliographical information network and also suggested that bibliographical information system in Korea should be developed by expansion of KOR-MARC database.

  • The purpose of this paper is to design and implement a Computer Assisted Personal Interviewing (CAPI) system for Panel Survey of Employment for the Disabled (PSED) using Blaise software developed by Statistics Netherlands which is a powerful and flexible system used for computer-assisted survey processing. CAPI system for PSED is consisted of three parts, which are survey management program, electronic questionnaire program, and postprocessing program. These programs are constructed with modular approach and are integrated into CAPI system. The developed software is highlighted in its reusability which results in the improved efficiency and reduced cost of software maintenance. CAPI system for PSED proved its effectiveness in carrying out the survey by guaranteeing correctness of survey data, improved timeliness of survey, easy reforming the questionnaires, easy control on the interviewers, and rapid data processing in spite of the complexity of PSED.

  • Computer-Aided Reliable and Optimal Design (CAROD) system is an efficient tool defining the best compromise between cost and safety. Using the concurrent engineering concept, it can supply the designer with all numerical information in the design process. This system integrates several fields such as multidisciplinary optimization, reliability analysis, finite element analysis, geometrical modeling, sensitivity analysis and concurrent engineering. When integrating these disciplines, many difficulties are found such as model coupling and computational time. In this paper, we propose a new concurrent methodology satisfying the reliability requirement, allowing the coupling of different models and reducing the computational time. Two applications (rotating disk and hook structures) demonstrate that CAROD system can be a practical concurrent engineering application for designers.

  • Experimental tests on cellular beams with sinusoidal openings showed two main failure modes around the openings. They concern the formation of four plastic hinges and the local instability of the sinusoidal part of the opening. In parallel, numerical analysis of the sinusoidal part of the opening revealed the existence of an elastic rotational restraint between the intermediate web-post and the adjacent opening panel. The aim of the present study is to present an approach to quantify this rotational restraint. Through the response surface method, a mathematical model is proposed. It shows a great ability to predict the rotational restraint value as a function of the geometrical parameters of the opening. This model can be used to perform an extensive study with various geometrical configurations of beams with the aim to develop a reliable and realistic analytical model predicting the resistance of the sinusoidal openings.

  • In seismic analyses of structures, additional eccentricity is introduced to take account for oscillations of random and unknown origins. In many codes of practice, the torsion about the vertical axis is considered through empirical accidental eccentricity formulation. Due to the random nature of structural systems, it is very difficult to evaluate the accidental eccentricity in a deterministic way and to specify its effect on the overall seismic response of structures. The aim of this study is to develop a procedure for the evaluation of the accidental eccentricity induced by uncertainties in stiffness and mass of structural members, using the neural network techniques coupled with Monte Carlo simulations. This method gives very interesting results for single story structures. For real structures, this method can be used as a tool to determine the accidental eccentricity in the seismic vulnerability studies of buildings.

  • It is but a short journey from citation indexing to citation analysis and thence to evaluative bibliometrics. This paper outlines the path and describes how the time-honored practice of affixing bibliographic references to scholarly articles has paved the way for a culture of accounting to establish itself in contemporary academia.
