  • The flight activities of Holotrichia morosa Watershouse and H. diomphaia Bates adults were monitored by blacklight traps for six years from 1984 to 1989. The flight activity of H. morosa adults was most prominent from late June to early August with a peak flight in mid July, and that of H. diomphalia adults mainly occurred from early May to late June of odd years with the peak flight dates varying year by year. The flight activities of the two species during the fight period became vigorous after moderate to heavy rainfalls. The overwintered adults of H. diomphalia seemed to begin flying when the daily mean temperature rose above $15^{\circ}C$. The ratios of the females to the total adults collected by the blacklight traps were 53.3% for H. morosa and 0% for H. diomphalia, although the female sex ratio of the latter species was 57.4% in the field.

  • This experiment was conducted to determine the most effective type of Bight·trap for pine catepillar moths (Dendrolimus spectabilis B.) and to investigate the environmental factors affecting the attractiveness of the moths.. The various types of light traps made used of: black light, white light, fluorescent light, yellow light, and red light and the environmental factors considered were rainfall, wind velocity and collecting time. All the traps were operated from 8 in the evening to midnight. The results obtained are summarized as follows; The most effective attraction of moths ($62\%$ of total number attracted) was observed with blacklight-lamp and the most abundant attraction of the moths was found from 8 to 10 in the evening. Attractiveness in terms of sex ratio attracted from 8 to 10 in the evening was found to the .approximately 7 female to 1 male, Environmental factors considered were found to have no influences in attractiveness of the moths in this experiment.

  • Species and seasonal occurrences of Sencinae, Melolonthinae and Rutelinae chafers captured b by blacklight traps were investigated from 1989 to 1991 in Suwon and Chonju. Numbers of s species captured in Suwon and Chonju were 6 and 6 for Sericinae, 8 and 7 for Melolothinae, 7 a and 8 for Rutelinae, 21 and 21 in total, respectively. Species with more captures from both districts in each subfamily were Maladera orientalis of Sericinae, Holotrichia morosa and H. diomphalia of Melolonthinae, and Anomala corpulenta, and A. rufocuprea of Rutelinae. Adults of t the above five species were captured 1O~20 days earlier in Chonju than in Suwon. H. d diomphalia adults occurred mamly In odd years in Chonju, which is the same pattern as in S Suwon.

  • The purpose of this study is to examine the functions and features of SearchWorks developed as the Next Generation Library Catalog by Stanford University Libraries. It was designed to fully represent the needs and search behaviors of users, with Blacklight, an open source software. Its main features are not different from those standard functions supplied by other commercial packages of Next Generation Library Catalogs, and its continuing improvement and changes, including the addition and expansion of more useful functions and the removal of unnecessary ones, have been observed since the introduction of a beta version in 2010.

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the major features of Next Generation Library Catalogs. 'Next Generation Melvyl Pilot' of University of California Library System and 'SearchWorks' of Stanford University Library are examined. While the former is developed, based on OCLC WorldCat Local, the latter is based on the Blacklight, an Open Source Catalog Software. Both commonly provide the features, including enriched contents, facet navigation, keyword searching, relevancy ranking of search results, and user contribution, etc., but some functions vary in scopes and contents. Also, it seems that both are in process of development rather than complete implementations.

  • The aboveground activities of the larger black chafer (Holotrichia morosa Waterhouse) and the Korean black chafer (H. diomphalia Bates) adults were investigated in the field and laboratory from 1991 through 1992. In a field cage, H. morosa adults emerged from the ground between 7 : 40-9 : 00 p.m. and H. diomphalia adults emerged between 7 : 30-10 : 00 p.m. After emergence, both females and males flied actively for less than one minute in H. morosa, while males flied inactively and females did not fly at all in H. diomphalia. Once emerged, adults of the two species mated or fed on plant leaves and seemed to stay aboveground till dawn. H. mOTOsa adults were attracted to a blacklight trap mainly between 8 : 10-10 : 00 p.m. in the field. H. morosa males and females emerged from soil every other day in a glass cistern.

  • Phonotaxis of the African mole cricket, Gryllotalpa africana palisot de Beauvois, was investigated in 1990 and 1992 at the agronomy Experiment Station of Korea Ginseng & Tobacco Research Institute in Hwaseong-gun, Kyonggi-do, Male adults produced calling sounds (calling songs) through the openings of subsurface burrows. Intensities of the sound were 77-80 dB at 15 cm above the openings. When tape recordings of male calling songs were broadcasted outdoors at 105-110 dB by two horn speakers installed at the center of a 1.4 m diameter-funnel, flying adults were attracted for 1.5 hours from about 30 minutes after sunset. Among attracted adults, 14.3-16.9% landed in the funnel, and 65.7-74.7% landed on the ground within 2m form the sound source. Females were 66.7-74.3%, which seemed to be due to the sex ratio of the population in the field. Adults landing in the funnel and at the distance of within 2m from the center of the funnel were tend to be a little more than those attracted to a blacklight trap.

  • In this study, we used a chemiluminescence reaction to investigate the removal effect of pet soil, such as dog blood, urine and feces. The soiled fabrics were washed with a standard laundry course of 30℃ and a washing time of 30 min and a pet care laundry course of 40-60℃ and a washing time of 100 min. The detergency was evaluated by the surface reflectance and chemiluminescence reaction (bloodstain detection by luminol test and urine-stain and feces-stain detection by UV blacklight test) before and after washing. The surface reflectance results did not show any difference in detergency for both courses, whereas the chemiluminescence reaction did. The detergency of the pet care course compared to the standard course was 101% according to the surface reflectance and 120% according to the chemiluminescence reaction. Therefore, residual stains not detected by surface reflectance can be evaluated through chemiluminescence reaction, and it was confirmed that pet stains can be managed more hygienically by washing for a long time at a high temperature.

  • This study was performed to investigate the distribution of mosquito vectors related to the zoonotic disease in Daejeon. Samples were taken using a blacklight trap once a month from March to November 2021 at the slaughterhouse in Daejeon. A total of 820 mosquitoes were captured and classified into 5 genera and 8 species. Among the collected mosquitoes, 319 (38.9%) and 295 (35.93%) were Aedes vexans nipponii and Culex pipiens pallens, respectively, making them the dominant species. The overall number of mosquitoes collected started to increase from May and reached the largest value of 329 (40.12%) in June. Trapped mosquitoes are created 72 pools by environmental condition and by species. The pools were tested by PCR methods for 7 zoonotic pathogens. Flavivirus-positive products were confirmed by DNA sequencing. Japanese encephalitis viruses were detected in 3 pools collected from cow lairage (Culex pipiens pallens) in May, cow by-product processing room (Aedes vexans nipponii) in June and cow lairage (Mansonia uniformis) in June. Culex flavivirus were detected in 4 pools. Based on the results of this study, it is considered that continous surveillence of mosquitoes in livestock assembly facilities (slaughterhouse) should be performed for controlling mosquito populations and mediating disease spread by mosquitoes.
