  • In AC-PDP, it is necessary to achieve high luminance efficiency, high luminance and high definition by adopting technologies such as high xenon concentration, MgO doping, and long gap. However, it is very difficult to apply above technologies because they make the driving voltage margin reduced. Especially, high Xe concentration technology for high efficacy makes not only the driving voltage margin reduced but also the stability of reset discharge decreased at low temperature. In this paper, we studied temperature and voltage dependent stability of reset discharge and present the experimental results of the discharge characteristics at low temperature. In addition, we suggested the mechanism of bright noise and black noise at low temperature. Finally, we proposed double reset waveform to improve the bright noise and descending scan time method to improve the black noise.

  • Digital halftoning is a technique to make an equivalent binary image from scanned photo or graphic images. Low pass filtering characteristic of human visual system can be applied to get the effect of spatial averaging of local area consisted of black and white pixels for gray image. The overlapping of black dot decreases brightness and black dot is very sensitive to human visual system in the bright region. In this paper, for gray-level expression, only bright gray region in the color image is considered for blue noise mask (BNM) approach. To solve this problem, BNM with CMY dot is used for the bright region instead of black dot. Dot-on-dot model with single mask causes the problem making much black dot overlap, color distortion. Therefore approach with three masks for C, M and Y each is proposed to decrease pixel overlap and color distortion.

  • In order to obtain the fundamental data on the auditory thresholds of fishes for marine ranching, the auditory thresholds of black rockfish Sebastes inermis were measured in the presence of masking noise in the spectrum level range of $73\~83$ dB (0 dB re $1{\mu}Pa/\sqrt{Hz}$) with a classical cardiac conditioning technique. Critical ratios were about $28\~34$ dB at $80\~300$ Hz and $47\~52$ dB at $500\~800$ Hz. The ratio increased almost linearly with increasing frequency to 500 Hz. The noise spectrum level at the start of masking was about 70 dB within the frequency range of $80\~800$ Hz excepting 65 dB at 300 Hz. It means that hearing of the black rockfish is masked in the natural environment with the noise spectrum level above 65 dB. The sound pressure level of $200\~300$ Hz recognized by black rockfish was above 96 dB under the ambient noise and the critical ratio of them was above 26 dB.

  • The purpose of this study is to help to prevent daily noises by measuring the noise absorption coefficient of the non-woven fabrics and wallpapers which are commonly used in lining and noise absorption coefficient of lining curtain. Seven types of fiber materials for the interior decoration, one non-woven fabric for the wallpaper linings, and two types of textiles for curtain linings are used as the experimental materials in this study. The noise absorption coefficient of the noise absorbents were measured by using impedance tube. And the thermal transmittance were measured by using thermal transmittance tester. The results of this study are as follows; Observing the noise absorption efficiency of each experimental materials, the combination of fiber materials and linings, the noise absorption efficiency of cotton, polyester and silk were similar and for the experimental materials of flax, rayon, acrylic and nylon were resulted the similar noise absorption efficiency. The result of combination of fiber material and black fabric was highest among the combined linings. For the combination of fiber material and non-woven fabric, double layers of non-woven fabric resulted slightly higher noise absorption coefficient result than single layer of non-woven fabric. The thermal transmittance and the sound absorbents of experimental materials were affected by the thickness, density and layer of air of the experimental materials.

  • Individual management of the animal is the first step towards reaching the goal of precision livestock farming that aids animal welfare. Accurate recognition of each individual animal is important for precise management. Electronic identification of cattle, usually referred to as RFID (Radio Frequency Identification), has many advantages for farm management. In practice, however, RFID implementations can cause several problems. Reading speed and distance must be optimized for specific applications. Image processing is more effective than RFID for the development of precision farming system in livestock. Therefore, the aim of this paper is to attempt the identification of cattle by using image processing. The majority of the research on the identification of cattle by using image processing has been for the black-and-white patterns of the Holstein. But, native Japanese and Korean cattle do not have a consistent pattern on the body, so that identification by pattern is impossible. This research aims to identify to Japanese black cattle, which does not have a black-white pattern on the body, by using image processing and a neural network algorithm. 12 Japanese black cattle were tested. Values of input parameter were calculated by using the face image values of 12 cows. The face was identified by the associate neural memory algorithm, and the algorithm was verified by the transformed face image, for example, of brightness, distortion, noise and angle. As a result, there was difference due to a transformation ratio of the brightness, distortion, noise, and angle. The algorithm could identify 100% in the range from -30 to +30 degrees of brightness, -20 to +40 degrees of distortion, 0 to 60% of noise and -20 to +30 degree of angle transformed images.

  • In AC-PDP, it is necessary to achieve high luminance efficacy, high luminance and high resolution by adopting technologies such as high Xenon concentration, MgO doping, and long gap. However, it is very difficult to apply above technologies because they reduce driving voltage margin. For example, doping of MgO reduces driving voltage but introduces new problems such as increased temperature dependency of discharge, which result in larger variations in driving margin at different temperatures. In this paper, we present the experimental results of the characteristics of temperature-dependent discharges. In addition, we suggest the mechanism of bright noise, black noise, and high temperature mis-discharge, which depend on temperature-dependent characteristics of MgO.

Critical ratios were about 19 - 30dB at 80 - 300Hz and 46 - 54dB at 500 - 800Hz. The ratio increased almost linearly with increasing frequency to 500Hz. The noise spectrum level at the start of masking was about 70dB within the frequency range of 80 - 800Hz excepting 65dB at 300Hz. This suggests that hearing of the black rock fish is masked in the natural environment with the noise spectrum level above 65dB. The sound pressure level of which the signal sound of 100 - 200Hz is recognized by black rock fish under the ambient noise is above 90dB and the critical ratio of them is above 20dB.

  • In this paper, we propose a new method dispersing spatially C(Cyan), M(Magenta), Y(Yellow) instead of K(black) in the bright region. The overlapping of black dots decreases brightness in the dark region, and black dots are very sensitive to human visual system in the bright region. Therefore, to avoid this problem, bright and dark gray region in the color image is considered in the proposed approach. A new method which uses CMY simultaneously in single mask is proposed, and CMY dots are used dispersing spatially for the bright region instead of black dot by this method. And tone curve connection is used to consider the gray level of dark region. In previous method, BNM (Blue Noise Mask) has high granularity and a narrow dynamic range. But the proposed method has the low granularity, wide dynamic range, and high contrast properties. Because the proposed method uses three times dots spatially in the different position than a conventional BNM, it can express more spatial information and a similar gray level compared with BNM.

  • The main goal was to evaluate effectiveness of a modified TSE sequence compared with DIR (double inversion recovery) sequence in acquisition of fast flow brain vessel images using signal void effect. 32 healthy volunteers (10 men and 22 women; mean age of 31 years; ranging between 28-43 years) who underwent black blood DIR sequence (group A) and the modified TSE sequence (group B) were enrolled in our study. Signal to Noise Ratio (SNR) and Contrast to Noise Ratio (CNR) of the internal carotid arteries' lumen were compared in T1 and T2 weighted images for both group A and B. The images obtained from group B showed lower SNR values in internal carotid artery than the group A in both of the T1 and T2 weighted images (11.49% and 13.66% respectively). While the CNR values were higher in the group B than the group A in both of the T1 and T2 weighted images (8.69% and 7.55 % respectively). The qualitative score of all categories were not significantly different between the two groups. Furthermore approximately 49% of the total scan time was reduced from group B. Our study is to shorten the scanning time and minimize the inconveniences of the patients in acquisition of the black blood images of brain by using the signal void effect in the modified TSE technique while keeping the diagnostic value of the test.

  • With the development of Information Technology in recent years, the image has been an important means to store or express information. Generally, during the process of acquiring and storing images, the images can be corrupted by noise of which typical types are Impulse(Impulse Noise) and AWGN(Addiction White Gaussian Noise). Impulse noise shows irregularly in black and white over the length and breadth of the image by sharp and sudden disturbance of the image signal. In the Impulse noise environment, SM(Standard Median) filter would be used because of its good noise removal performance and simple algorithm. However, when SM filter removes noise, it also produces error at the edge of image and causes whole image quality deterioration. In this paper, we propose a method based on modified nonlinear filter operation scheme which enhances the features of noise removal and detail image preservation when restoring image in Impulse noise environment. And, we compared it with existing methods and the performances through simulation.
