  • This paper presents the measurements and analyses of transmission qualities of the existing urban and toll public switching telephone network (PSTN) for the purllose of opening it to data transmission. In the tests, random noise and impulsive noise occuring on the telephone network are investigated and bit error rate and block error rate representing the transmission qualities on the existing telephone network are measured. We recommend the fastest practical data transmission speed on the network and investigate a possibility of opening the public switching telephone network (PSIN) to the data transmission based on the above measurements.

  • The conventional CELP(code excited linear prediction) type vocoder has no V/UV(voiced/unvoiced) classifier. So, the unvoiced speech is processed like the voiced speech. In this paper, to reduce the bit rate, we propose a new V/UV decision algorithm minimized error rate and preprocessing computation. This V/UV classifier use the LSP(line spectrum pair) parameter which is acquired spectrum analysis process in CELP vocoders. Applying this method to the 5.3kbps ACELP(algebraic code excited linear prediction) in the G.723.1, we can get the transmission bits rate reduction of 6% approximately without degradation of speech quality.

  • In this paper, a concatenated turbo and BCH coding is proposed for the wireless ATM cell transmission and the bit error rate(BER) and the cell loss ratio(CLR) for the Nosed system is obtained. Turbo code with code rate of 1/2 and BCH code with error correction capability of 5 and 15 bits are used in the simulations. It is shown that the proposed system obtained about 0.2 and 0.4 ㏈ gain over the conventional Turbo code at bit error rate of 0.001. Also the proposed system obtained about 0.1 and 0.2 ㏈ gain over the conventional Turbo code at cell loss rate of 0.01.

  • In this paper, we develop an approach toward JSC(Joint Source-Channel Coding) method for MPEG-4 based FGS(Fine Granular Scalability) video coding and transmission in fixed and mobile receiving environment(Digital Audio Broadcasting, DAB). The source coder used MPEG-4 FGS video codec, the channel coder used RCPC(Rate Compatible Punctured Convolution) code and the modulation method used QPSK modulation. We have considered channel environment of AWGN and mobile receiving environment. This study determined optimum Trade-off point between source bit rate and channel coding rate in variable channel states. We compared FGS-JSC method and general single layer CBR(Constant Bit Rate) transmission. In this results, FGS-JSC was appeared better performance than CBR transmission.

  • In this paper, we model the interference plus noise signal for terrestrial cloud transmission systems and present bit error rate (BER) performances. Since terrestrial cloud transmission systems experience co-channel interference from one or more transmitters, they have to operate under a negative signal-to-interference plus noise ratio (SINR) region. The interference plus noise signal can be modeled as Gaussian random variable under the required SINR region and we observe the BER performance of the cloud transmission system using the derived model. Also, we propose an improved channel estimation scheme by averaging the channel estimates based on least square based interpolation scheme. Simulation results show that the cloud transmission system can operate under negative SINR region using the proposed channel estimation scheme.

  • Most multimedia source coders exhibit unequal bit error sensitivity. Efficient transmission system design should therefore incorporate the use of matching unequal error protection (UEP). In this paper, we present and evaluate a flexible space-time coding system with unequal error protection. Multiple transmit and receive antennas and bit-interleaved coded modulation techniques are used combined with rate compatible punctured convolutional codes. A near optimum iterative receiver is employed with a multiple-in multiple-out inverse mapper and a MAP decoder as component decoders. We illustrate how the UEP system gain can be achieved either as a power or bandwidth gain compared to the equal error protection system (EEP) for the identical source and equal overall quality for both the UEP and EEP systems. An example with two/three transmit and two receive antennas using BPSK modulation is given for the block fading channel.

  • We present a auto compensating quantum key distribution system based on optical fiber at 1550nm. In the quantum key transmission system, main control board and phase modulation driving board are fabricated for auto controlling quantum key distribution(QKD). We tested the single photon counts per dark counts for a single photon detector, quantum key distribution rate($R_{sift}$) and the quantum bit error rate (QBER). Quantum bit error rate of 3.5% in 25km QKD is obtained. This system is commercially available.

  • This paper examines the BER performance of the recently proposed half-symbol-rate-carrier (HSRC) offset quadrature phase-shift-keying (OQPSK) receiver for high-speed data communication. A modified demodulation technique using a bit-time period signal integration, the bit-error-rate (BER) performance of the HSRC-OQPSK signal improves more than 4dB compared to that of a demodulation technique using a symbol-time period integration. This paper also examines the BER performance of modified demodulation with various band-limited channels modeled using low-pass filters, and the three different data-rate systems are simulated and compared with the performance of the system using the conventional demodulation technique.

  • A practical method of adaptive rate allocation to source and channel codings for an independent loss channel is proposed for Internet video. It is based on the observations that the values of residual loss probabilities at the optimal code rates for different packet loss probabilities are closely clustered to the average residual loss probability for a transmission frame size n in RS(n,k) code and for a total bit rate R. These observations aye then exploited to find the code rate for maximum PSNR. Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed method achieves a near-optimal bit-rate allocation in the joint source-channel coding of H.263 and RS(n,k) codings.

  • In this paper, we analyze previous flow control algorithm for serving ABR traffic, and then propose the algorithm which calculate fair transmission rate and control efficiently ABR traffic using VS/VD switch which has an effect on PNNI environment with long delay. For getting the transmission rate, the proposed algorithm use FMMRA as ER scheme which calculate exactly the fair share. And, in large delay state, we can obtain fair cell sharing by calculating transmission rates which obtained by transmitted queue length information of VD to VS for serve and drain cell in queue Through the computer simulation, we evaluate the performance of proposed algorithm. According to the results, the proposed algorithm shows good performance.
