This paper provides an approach for representing an optimum vector quantizer by a scalar nonlinear gain-plus-additive noise model. The validity and accuracy of this analytic model is confirmed by comparing the calcuated model quantization errors with actual simulation of the optimum Linde-Buzo-Gray(LBG) vector quantizer. Using this model we frm MSE measure of an M-band filter bank codec in terms of the equivalent scalar quantizatin model and find the optimum FIR filter coefficients for each channel in the M-band structure for a given bit rate, given filter length, and given input signal correlation model. Specific design examples are worked out for 4-tap filters in the two-band paraunitary case. These theoretical results are confirmed by extensive Monte Carlo simulation.
The use of serial concatenated codes is an effective technique for alleviating the error floor phenomenon of low-density parity-check (LDPC) codes. An enhanced sum-product algorithm (SPA) for LDPC codes, which is suitable for serial concatenated codes, is proposed in this paper. The proposed algorithm minimizes the number of errors by using the failed check nodes (FCNs) in LDPC decoding. Hence, the error-correcting capability of the serial concatenated code can be improved. The number of FCNs is simply obtained by the syndrome test, which is performed during the SPA. Hence, the decoding procedure of the proposed algorithm is similar to that of the conventional algorithm. The error performance of the proposed algorithm is analyzed and compared with that of the conventional algorithm. As a result, a gain of 1.4 dB can be obtained by the proposed algorithm at a bit error rate of $10^{-8}$. In addition, the error performance of the proposed algorithm with just 30 iterations is shown to be superior to that of the conventional algorithm with 100 iterations.
Described is a new type of control signal transmission system in which an optical fiber is used in place of metal wire cables. This optical transmission system is reliable against EMI and also eliminates the frequency band limitation on the metal wire cables. Since the Z80 CPU is used to distribute the instructions, many tasks can be carried out very easily, and many errors can be avoided. Although an experiment was carried out for 4 bit binary data, the number of bits can be increased to 6 or more without any degradation in reliability. Thus, a variety of applications can be expected to be actualized with this control signal transmission system.
Microphone array beamforming method has been recognized as an important aeroacoustic research field and become a standard technique in localizing sound sources. This method also used in flight acoustic measurement, and especially, it is very useful when measure sounds inside the wind tunnel. In measuring sound which is inside the wind tunnel by traditional beamforming method, there are some errors caused by airstream. The speed and the propagation path of the sound changes as it travel through the airstream. This makes the error which the position of sound is changed a little bit to the down stream direction. In this paper, validation test has made about the correction equation for this wind effects of previous researches. And beamforming including shear layer correction was performed about a sound source in the anechoic open-jet windtunnel.
The Fano metric is the maximum likelihood decoding choice for convlutional code for binary symmetric channel. The Fano metric assumes that it has previous knowledge of channel error probability. However, the bit errors in real channel occur in bursts and the channel error probability can not be known exactly. Thus, the Fano metric is not the maximum likelihood choice for bursty-noise channel. In this paper universal metri which dose not require the previous knowlege of the channel transition probability is used for sequential decoding. It is shown that the complexity of the universal is much less than that of the Fano metric bursty-noise channel, since it is estimated on a branch by branch basis.
Rapid advances in telecommunication make emergency telemedicine possible that specialist offers medical care to an emergency case in moving vehicle. Although there were many telemedicine projects delivering the image or video of patient over several wireless networks, none of them considered effective solutions for optimizing video transmission over error-prone environments, such like wireless links. To alleviate the effect of channel errors on compressed video bit-stream, this paper analyzed the error resilient features of MPEG-4 standard and measured the quality of transmitted MPEG-4 encoded video over commercially available CDMA2000 1xEV-DO networks, transmitting different IP packet sizes and RM positions. we propose an error resilient transmission methods for emergency telemedicine over real 3G network.
This paper proposes an efficient predictive image-compression technique based on vector quantization of blocks of pels. In the proposed method edge contents of blocks control the selection of predictors and block shapes as well. The maximum number of bits assigned to quantizers has been in creased to 3bits/pel from 1/5bits/pel, the setting employed by forerunners in predictive vector quantization of images. This increase prevents the saturation in SNR observed in their results in high bit rates. The variable block shape is instrumental in eh reconstruction of edges. The adaptive procedure is controlled by means of he standard deviation ofp rediction errors generated by a default predictor; the standard deviation address a decision table which can be set up beforehand. eh proposed method is characterized by overall improvements in image quality over A-VQ-PE and A-DCT VQ, both of which are known for their efficient use of vector quantizers.
The application of finding occurrences of a pattern that contains gaps includes information retrieval, data mining, and computational biology. As the biological sequences may contain errors, it is important to find not only the exact occurrences of a pattern but also approximate ones. In this paper we present an O(mnk$_{max}$/w) time algorithm for the approximate gapped pattern matching problem, where m is the length of the text, H is the length of the pattern, w is the word size of the target machine, and k$_{max}$ is the greatest error bound for subpatterns.
BCH code is one of the most widely used error correcting code for the detection and correction of random errors in the modern digital communication systems. The conventional BCH encoder that is operated in bit-serial manner cannot adequate with the recent high speed appliances. Therefore, parallel encoding algorithms are always a necessity. In this paper, we introduced a new systolic array type BCH parallel encoder. To study the area and speed, several parallel factors of the systolic array encoder is compared. Furthermore, to prove the efficiency of the proposed algorithm using tree-type structure, the throughput and the area overhead was compared with its counterparts also. The proposed BCH encoder has a great flexibility in parallelization and the speed was increased by 40% than the original one. The results were implemented on synthesis and simulation on FPGA using VHDL.
