Lipid component and water component image in living organism can be acquired due to its chemical shift difference. Various techniques for chemical shift imaging were used for acquiring separated image. It is necessary two imaging experiments to acquire two separated images wi th Dixon's method. This technique is less susceptible to local magnetic inhomogeneities and easily applied to multi-slice imaging. With CHESS and SECSI method, which based on chemical selectivity of R.F pusle, either water or lipid image can be acquired by one imaging experiment. However, those are more susceptible to local magnetic field inhomogeneities and difficult to apply to multi-slice imaging. The SECSI method showed best signal suppression ratio of fat and water, which is measure of separation of water and fat.
In this study, we proposed an application of wavelet transform or analysis of ultrasound echo signals to improve troubles of convenianced methods such as SDM, SSM. We examined method using wavelet transform to prove again our proposal which we have proposed prior time. At first, we made phantoms by adding 0.01, 0.015, 0.02, 0.025, 0.03, 0.035, 0.04, 0.045, 0.05($g/cm^3$) on constant quantity of distilled water and agar, and collected echo signals. We used SDM(spectral difference method) and WTM(wavelet transform method) as signal processing method. To compare with WTM, SDM was used. In WTM, we selected detail signals of level 3 of Daubechies 16, and got derivative, calculated area of it. Next, we calculated slopes. In SDM, it was 0.0308 and in WTM, it was 0.5248. As a result, we knew that we could know that the values using WTM showed more detailed than those using SDM. So we could concluded wavelet transform is very useful and powerful in ultrasound tissue characterization.
The present study proposed a method of measuring uroflow and urophonography at the same time for more accurate diagnosis in case uroflow looks normal due to compensatory function hypertrophy in the expression of early obstruction. In case of early obstruction, there happens turbulent uroflow by the obstruction even if the uroflow looks normal and thus obstruction can be detected by measuring and analyzing signal caused by turbulent flow. We implemented a system that can measure both uroflow and urophonography, and evaluated its performance. In the experiment, we observed changes in uroflow and urophonography according to artificial pressure and the degree of obstruction, and confirmed that it is possible to determine the effect of compensatory function hypertrophy by analyzing urophonographyic parameter under the same uroflow. The results of our experiment show that the effect of compensatory function hypertrophy in the early-stage obstruction of lower urinary tract, which is not detectible with uroflowmetry alone, can be assessed through urophonographic analysis.
This paper proposes a new algorithm for sleep apnea detection based on stroke volume. It is very important to detect sleep apnea since it is a common and serious sleep-disordered breathing (SDB). In the previous studies, methods for sleep apnea detection using heart rate variability, airflow and blood oxygen saturation, tracheal sound have been proposed, but a method using stroke volume has not been studied. The proposed algorithm consists of detection of characteristic points in continuous blood pressure signal, estimation of stroke volume and detection of sleep apnea. To evaluate the performance of algorithm, the MIT-BIH Polysomnographic Database provided by Phsio- Net was used. As a result, the sensitivity of 85.99%, the specificity of 72.69%, and the accuracy of 84.34%, on the average were obtained. The proposed method showed comparable or higher performance compared with previous methods.
Integrated circuit of a new neuron chain with a synapse function for Hodgkin-Huxley model which is a good electrical model about a real biological neuron is implemented in a $0.5{\mu}m$ 1 poly 2 metal CMOS technology. Pulse type neuron chain consist of series connected current controlled single neurons through synapses. For the realization of the single neuron, a pair of voltage mode oscillators using operational transconductance amplifiers and capacitors is used. The synapse block which is a connection element between neurons consist of a voltage-current conversion circuit using current mirror. SPICE simulation results of the proposed circuit show 160 mV amplitude pulse output and propagation of the signal through synapses. Measurements of the fabricated pulse type neuron chip in condition of ${\pm}2.5\;V$ power supply are shown and compared with the simulated results.
The genus Bryophyllum is best known for many of its species having the ability to produce plantlets on their leaves. This phenomenon is also known as vegetative reproduction. Differential expressed gene (DEG) detecting technique was applied in order to survey the genes involved in the process of asexual reproduction for plantlet formation. Based on homology search using the NCBI database after screening of genes, 38 genes were identified from a total of 69 DEGs. Most of these DEGs were related to cell division, to intercellular signal transduction, and to hormone (cytokinin and ethylene) signaling.

Thiol-dependent redox systems are involved in regulation of diverse biological processes, such as response to stress, signal transduction, and protein folding. The thiol-based redox control is provided by mechanistically similar, but structurally distinct families of enzymes known as thiol oxidoreductases. Many such enzymes have been characterized, but identities and functions of the entire sets of thiol oxidoreductases in organisms are not known. Extreme sequence and structural divergence makes identification of these proteins difficult. Thiol oxidoreductases contain a redox-active cysteine residue, or its functional analog selenocysteine, in their active sites. Here, we describe computational methods for in silico prediction of thiol oxidoreductases in nucleotide and protein sequence databases and identification of their redox-active cysteines. We discuss different functional categories of cysteine residues, describe methods for discrimination between catalytic and noncatalytic and between redox and non-redox cysteine residues and highlight unique properties of the redox-active cysteines based on evolutionary conservation, secondary and three-dimensional structures, and sporadic replacement of cysteines with catalytically superior selenocysteine residues.
An enhancement technique for phase dependent image contrast in MRI(Manetic Resonance Imaging) is proposed. Because the method can enhance inherent phase contrast it is suited for susceptibility imaging and flow imaging where intravoxel phase is a source of image contrast. In this paper, applying external phase in the voxel enhances phase contrast. The external phase is generated by a tailored RF pulse so that one can control the phase contrast and even produces phase only contrast. Signal intensity due to both inherent phase and external phase is analyzed and the proposed technique is applied to a susceptibility effect only imaging and a flow effect only imaging. To verify the proposed technique, computer simulations are performed and their results are given.
A variety of ligands differ in their capacity to bind the receptor, elicit gene expression, and modulate physiological responses. Such receptors include Toll-like receptors (TLRs), which recognize various patterns of pathogens and lead to primary innate immune activation against invaders, and G-protein coupled receptors (GPCRs), whose interaction with their cognate ligands activates heterotrimeric G proteins and regulates specific downstream effectors, including immuno-stimulating molecules. Once TLRs are activated, they lead to the expression of hundreds of genes together and bridge the arm of innate and adaptive immune responses. We characterized the gene expression profile of Toll-like receptor 4 (TLR4) in RAW 264.7 cells when it bound with its ligand, 2-keto-3-deoxyoctonate (KDO), the active part of lipopolysaccharide. In addition, to determine the network communications among the TLR, Janus kinase (JAK)/signal transducer and activator of transcription (STAT), and GPCR, we tested RAW 264.7 cells with KDO, interferon-${\beta}$, or cAMP analog 8-Br. The ligands were also administered as a pair of double and triple combinations.
