흉부X선 영상에서의 좌우영상차를 이용한 노듈검출에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Lung Nodule Detection Usign Difference Image of Right and Left Side in Chest X-Ray)

  • Pulmonary nodules in chest X-Ray images were detected using the symmetric property of human lung and its performance was evaluated. Thls algorithm reduced the effect of background components and enhanced the nodule signals relatively. The image was divided and processed separately, the half with matched filter only, and the other half with warping and matched filter. This algorithm increased the entire detection rate by reducing False-Positive error and improving True-Positive detectability. Result shows 10-25 % improvement in detection rate compared with the conventional alsorithm for nodules size of 10mm.

  • The origins of the motion artifact resulting from exercise in impedance cardiography wore explained and the ensemble average technique was applied to reduce the motion artifact enabling the measurement of cardiac output during exercise. Algorithm for ensemble average was developed and applied to the actual impedance signals. It was found that the minimum number of sampling was 20, and sampling frequency was 500Hz. Using the ensemble average technique it was possible to measure cardiac output continuously during the treadmill exercise. Therefore it is hoped that this study may contribute in the area of exercise physiology and sport medicine.

  • In this paper, several bandwidth sampling methods were compared in which contains "multi-order sampling", which was proposed or envelope detections in RF ultrasonic signals by a computer simulation and on experiment quadrature sampling method. The second-order sampling method were compared with it. As a conclusion, a multi-order sampling method, especially 5th order sampling method showed quite good envelope detection property. This means that more economical and quite good performance digital beamforming system can be built by adopting this new bandwidth sampling method.

  • In this paper, we quantitatively evaluated the anxiety data from humans in an anxiety state. It has been reported that the electric signals of human can be correlated with their emotional state. We chose heart rate, respiration rate, temperature and skin conductance as the anxiety parameters. For experiment protocol, the subject was given exercising load to induce the anxiety state and the exercise was done using the FITRON Cycle Ergometer. We divided the data into three stages: rest period, exercise period, and recovery period. During evaluation, We counted the heart rate, slope of heart rate, temperature change, and the skin conductance.

  • This paper describes pattern classification algorithm of ECG using back-propagation neural network. We presents new feature extractor using second order approximating function as the input signals of neural network. We use 9 significant parameters which were extracted by feature extractor. 5 most characterized ECG signal pattern is classified accurately by neural network. We use AHA database to evaluate the performance ol the proposed pattern classification algorithm.

  • 가상환경 하에서의 임장감을 객관적으로 계측하기 위한 방법으로 생체신호를 이용한 감성의 계측을 시도하였다. 여러 가지 가상환경 하에서 뇌파, 심전도, 호흡 등 다 채널의 생체신호를 계측하고 이때 피실험자가 느끼는 객관화된 임장감 지표들을 동시에 평가하여 이를 신경 회로망을 이용하여 분석하였다. 계측된 생체 신호를 사전 처리하여 일차적인 생체분석 지표들을 도출하고 이를 신경회로망의 입력으로 활용하였다. 임장감을 분석할 수 있도록 신경회로망을 학습시키고, 이를 이용하여서 가상환경 하에서 계측된 생체신호를 분석하여 임장감을 정량화하여 평가하였다.

Tunable Photonic Band Gap Materials and Their Applications

  • Photonic band gap (PBG) materials have been of great interest due to their potential applications in science and technology. Their applications can be further extended when PBG becomes tunable against various chemical and electrical stimuli. In recent, it was found that tunable photonic band gap materials can be achieved by incorporating stimuli-responsive smart gels into PBG materials. For example, the characteristic volume phase transition of gels in response to the various external stimuli including temperature, pH, ionic strength, solvent compositions and electric field were recently combined with the unique optical properties of photonic crystals to form unprecedented highly responsive optical components. Since these responsive photonic crystals are capable of reversibly converting chemical or electrical energy into characteristic optical signals, they have been considered as a good platform for label-free chemical or biological detection, actuators or optical switches as well as a model system for investigating gel swelling behavior. Herein, we report block copolymer photonic gels self-assembled from polystyrene-b-poly (2-vinyl pyridine) (PS-b-P2VP) block copolymers. In this talk, we are going to demonstrate that selective swelling of lamellar structure can be effectively utilized for fabricating PBG materials with extremely large tunability. Optical properties and their applications will be discussed.

MicroSPECT and MicroPET Imaging of Small Animals for Drug Development

  • The process of drug discovery and development requires substantial resources and time. The drug industry has tried to reduce costs by conducting appropriate animal studies together with molecular biological and genetic analyses. Basic science research has been limited to in vitro studies of cellular processes and ex vivo tissue examination using suitable animal models of disease. However, in the past two decades new technologies have been developed that permit the imaging of live animals using radiotracer emission, X-rays, magnetic resonance signals, fluorescence, and bioluminescence. The main objective of this review is to provide an overview of small animal molecular imaging, with a focus on nuclear imaging (single photon emission computed tomography and positron emission tomography). These technologies permit visualization of toxicodynamics as well as toxicity to specific organs by directly monitoring drug accumulation and assessing physiological and/or molecular alterations. Nuclear imaging technology has great potential for improving the efficiency of the drug development process.

Direct Analysis of Aerosol Particles by Atomic Emission and Mass Spectrometry

  • A method for the direct determination of elemental content in each of aerosol particles by inductively coupled plasma atomic emission (ICP-AES) or mass spectrometry (ICP-MS) is described. This method is based upon the introduction of diluted aerosol into an ICP and the measurement of either the flash emission intensities of an atomic spectral line or ion intensities. A pulse-height analyzer is used for the measurement of the distribution of the elemental content. In order to calibrate the measuring system, monodisperse aerosols are used. The potentials of the method are shown by demonstrating the copper emission signals from the aerosols generated at a small electric switch, a study of the relation between the decreasing rate of particle number density and particle size, and measurements of calcium contents in the individual biological cells.

  • The purpose of this study is to help the hearing impaired's speech training with a visible speech processing system. In brief, this system converts the features of speech signals into graphics on monitor, and adjusts the features of hearing impaired to normal ones. There are form ant and pitch in the features used for this system. They are extracted using the digital signal processing such as linear prediotive method or AMDF(Average Magnitude Difference Function). In order to effectively train for the hearing impaired's abnormal speech, easilly visible feature has been being studied.
