Insulin-like growth factor II (IGF2) and H19 genes are mutually imprinted genes which may be responsible for abnormalities in the cloned fetuses and offspring. This study was performed to identify putative differentially methylated regions (DMRs) of porcine H19 locus and to explore its genomic imprinting in in vitro fertilized (IVF) and somatic cell nuclear transferred (SCNT) embryos. Based on mice genomic data, we identified DMRs on H19 and found porcine H19 DMRs that included three CTCF binding sites. Methylation patterns in IVF and SCNT embryos at the 2-, 4-, $8{\sim}16$-cells and blastocyst stages were analyzed by BS (Bisulfite Sequencing)-PCR. The CpGs in CTCF1 was significantly unmethylated in the 2-cell stage IVF embryos. However, the 4- (29.1%) and $8{\sim}16$-cell (68.2%) and blastocyst (48.2%) stages showed higher methylation levels (p<0.01). On the other hand, SCNT embryos were unmethylayted ($0{\sim}2%$) at all stages of development. The CpGs in CTCF2 showed almost unmethylation levels at the 2-,4- and $8{\sim}16$-cell and blastocyst stages of development in both IVF ($0{\sim}14.1%$) and SCNT ($0{\sim}6.4%$) embryos. At all stages of development, CTCF3 was unmethylated in IVF ($0{\sim}17.3%$) and SCNT ($0{\sim}1.2%$) embryos except at the blastocyst stage (54.5%) of IVF embryos. In conclusion, porcine SCNT embryos showed an aberrant methylation pattern comprised to IVF embryos. Therefore, we suggest that the aberrant methylation pattern of H19 loci may be a reason for increased abnormal fetus after embryo transfer of porcine SCNT embryos.
In this paper, an Adaptive Nonlinear Constrained Model Predictive Control (ANCMPC) is presented for a pH control in a fed-batch bio-reactor. The pH model is represented with Hammerstein Model. The static nonlinear part of Hammerstein model is described with the static pH model, and the dynamic linear part of the Hammerstein model is described with the CARIMA model. The parameters of the CARIMA model is estimated on-line with the input and output measurements of the system using a recursive least squares type of identication algorithm. The eectiveness of the proposed controller is shown through simulations.
Houttuynia cordata Thunb.[H.cordata]belonging to Saururaceae, is a wild medicinal herb of perennial plants, and grows well in a place with a lot of shade and moisture. The medical action of H.cordata is reported to have an antitumer effect, toxicity-suppressive effect, antifungal effect, diuretic effect, and antioxidative action, but its effect hasn't been reported on cardiovascular diseases, such as ateriosclerosis and hypertension yet. This study intended to confirm the effect of the water extract of H.cordata on the migration and proliferation of rat aortic smooth muscle cells. Such results show that the water extract of H.cordata suppresses the migration and proliferation of rat aortic smooth muscle cells. It is believed that a useful clue will be offered later to the prevention of cardiovascular diseases such as ateriosclerosis and hypertension, and the development of their medicines on the basis of the fact.

Bio-ethanol production research using various material has been problemed for solving problems of environment pollution caused by fossil fuels. Red-algae consists of agar, carrageenan, and porphyran. If it is treated by acid, it is able to change useful bio-mass for bio-ethanol. In this study, we found an optimal condition for bio-ethanol production from acid hydrolysate in red-algae. To produce bio-ethanol, Saccharomyces cerevisiae KCCM1129 inoculated to acid hydrolysate of Gelidium amansii. The optimal condition for Gelidium amansii hydrolysis was found to be 30 min reaction at $H_2SO_4$ concentration of 1.5% and $121^{\circ}C$. At this condition, its produced to 7.04 g/L galactose and 1.94 g/L glucose. And acetic acid concentration of 2.0% in agar produced 0.75 g/L galactose. In contrast, Pachymeniopis elliptica was treated with $H_2SO_4$concentration of 1.5%, it produced 6.38 g/L galactose. And Pachymeniopis elliptica treated with acetic acid concentration of 2% produced 0.368 g/L galactose. The optimal condition of ethanol production was found to be 96 h reaction at $H_2SO_4$concentration of 1.0% and $30^{\circ}C$, which produced 3.77 g/L ethanol.

The impact of free cyanide ($CN^-$) and thiocyanate ($SCN^-$) on the $CN^-$ (CDO) and $SCN^-$ degraders (TDO) to nitrify and denitrify aerobically was evaluated under alkaline conditions. The CDO's were able to nitrify under cyanogenic conditions, achieving $NH_4{^+}-N$ removal rates above 1.66 mg $NH_4{^+}-N.L^{-1}.h^{-1}$, except when $CN^-$ and $SCN^-$ loading was 15 mg $CN^-/L$ and 50 mg $SCN^-.L^{-1}$, respectively, which slightly inhibited nitrification. The TDO's were able to achieve a nitrification rate of 1.59 mg $NH_4{^+}-N.L^{-1}.h^{-1}$ in the absence of both $CN^-$ and $SCN^-$, while the presence of $CN^-$ and $SCN^-$ was inhibitory, with a nitrification rates of 1.14 mg $NH_4{^+}-N.L^{-1}.h^{-1}$. The CDO's and TDO's were able to denitrify aerobically, with the CDO's obtaining $NO_3{^-}-N$ removal rates above 0.67 mg $NO_3{^-}-N.L^{-1}.h^{-1}$, irrespective of the tested $CN^-$ and $SCN^-$ concentration range. Denitrification by the TDO's was inhibited by $CN^-$, achieving a removal rate of 0.46 mg $NO_3{^-}-N.L^{-1}.h^{-1}$ and 0.22 mg $NO_3{^-}-N.L^{-1}.h^{-1}$ when $CN^-$ concentration was 10 and 15 mg $CN^-.L^{-1}$, respectively. However, when the CDO's and TDO's were co-cultured, the nitrification and aerobic denitrification removal rates were 1.78 mg $NH_4{^+}-N.L^{-1}.h^{-1}$ and 0.63 mg $NO_3{^-}-N.L^{-1}.h^{-1}$ irrespective of $CN^-$ and $SCN^-$ concentrations.
Various extracts from 30 medicinal plants were evaluated for their antiviral activity against influenza virus A/Puerto Rico/8/34 (H1N1) and cytotoxicity in MDCK cell culture. The plant material (30 g) was extracted with methanol (300 mL) at room temperature for 24 h, after which the methanolic extracts were filtered, evaporated, and subsequently lyophilized. Evaluation of the potential antiviral activity was conducted by a viral replication inhibition test. Among these medicinal plants, Tussilago farfara, Brassica juncea, Prunus armeniaca, Astragalus membranaceus, Patrinia villosa, and Citrus unshiu showed marked antiviral activity against influenza virus A/H1N1 at concentrations ranging from 0.15625 mg/mL to 1.25 mg/mL, 0.3125 mg/mL to 10 mg/mL, 5 mg/mL to 10 mg/mL, 0.625 mg/mL to 10 mg/mL, 0.625 mg/mL to 10 mg/mL, and 0.3125 mg/mL to 5 mg/mL, respectively. The extracts of Tussilago farfara showed cytotoxicity at concentrations greater than 2.5 mg/mL, whereas the other five main extracts showed no cytotoxicity at concentrations of 10 mg/mL. Taken together, the present results indicated that methanolic extracts of the six main plants might be useful for the treatment of influenza virus H1N1.
