인디고 생산능을 가진 Azoarcus sp. TSPY31과 TSNA42의 유전체 분석 (Complete genome sequences of Azoarcus sp. TSPY31 and TSNA42 potentially having biosynthetic ability to produce indigo)

  • 유류 오염된 해양 갯벌에서 분리한 다환방향수소족(PAHs)을 분해하는 균주들로부터 인디고로 생물전환 활성을 가진 것으로 예측되는 Azoarcus sp. TSPY31과 TSNA42 균주를 동정하였다. 이 두 균주의 유전체 분석을 실시한 결과, 모두 하나의 완전한 chromosome으로 구성되며, TSPY31은 총 4,572,082 bp에 G + C 함량은 63.2%로 이루어져 있고, TSNA42는 4,886,934 bp에 G + C 함량은 62.8%이었다. 이 두 균주 모두 인돌을 인디고로 전환하는 효소인 styrene monooxygenase를 각각 2 copy씩 보유하고 있는 것으로 확인되었다.

동해에 출현하는 기름가자미(Glyptocephalus stelleri)의 위내용물 조성 (Diet of the Korean Flounder Glyptocephalus stelleri in the Coastal Waters of the East Sea of Korea)

  • The diet of Glyptocephalus stelleri was studied using 475 specimens collected in the coastal waters of the East Sea of Korea. The specimens ranged from 6.8 to 43.4 cm in total length (TL). G. stelleri was a crustacean feeder that consumed mainly euphausiids [percent index of relative importance (%IRI)=63.7%]. Polychaetes were the second largest prey component. The diet also included small quantities of bivalves, copepods, amphipods and shrimps. Individuals smaller than 15 cm TL fed mainly on euphausiids. The proportion of euphausiids decreased as body size increased, whereas the consumption of polychaetes increased gradually.

  • The purpose of this study was to review literature on beef recipes, focusing on 20 recipe books published from the late 1800s to 1990s. A total of 119 beef dry-heat cooking were recorded. The most often used cooking were as follows: roasting 54 times, skewering 35 times, stir-frying18 times, pan-frying11 times and deep frying 1 time. The culinary book that the recipes was Hangukeumsik daegwan (1997). ribs, brisket, rump, bottom sirloin, sirloin and tenderloin were used but all beef cuts were marked as 'beef.' Thus, it impossible to figure out which beef cut was used in the recipe. Chili, green onion, egg, tofu and wheat flour were used together as, while soy sauce, salt, sugar, sesame oil, ground pepper, pear juice, honey, chopped green onion, chopped garlic, ginger juice, ground sesame used as. In addition, pine nuts or ground pine-nuts were often used for garnish.

한국 남해에 출현하는 삼치(Scomberomorus niphonius)의 위내용물 조성 (Diet Composition of Spanish Mackerel Scomberomorus niphonius, in the South Sea of Korea)

  • The diet composition of Spanish mackerel Scomberomorus niphonius, was investigated using 853 specimens collected using two-boat trawl, stow net, gill net and set net from January to December 2019 from the South Sea of Korea. The size of the specimens ranged from 25.2 to 114.8 cm in fork length. S. niphonius fed mostly on fishes. Its diets also included small quantities of shrimps, cephalopods, crabs, stomatopods, etc. Among them, Engraulis japonicus was the dominant species. The dietary composition of S. niphonius exhibited significant differences based on their size. The proportion of Trichiurus japonicus increased as body size of S. niphonius increased, whereas the proportion of E. japonicus decreased gradually. As the body size of S. niphonius increased, the mean weight of prey per the stomach (mW/ST) tended to increase significantly (one-way ANOVA, P<0.05).

Immunomodulatory Activities of Body Wall Fatty Acids Extracted from Halocynthia aurantium on RAW264.7 Cells

  • Tunicates are known to contain biologically active materials and one species in particular, the sea peach (Halocynthia aurantium), has not been thoroughly studied. In this study we aimed to analyze the fatty acids profile of the H. aurantium body wall and its immunomodulatory effects on RAW264.7 macrophage-like cells. The fatty acids were classified into three categories: saturated fatty acids (SFAs), monounsaturated fatty acids (MUFAs), and polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs). Omega-3 fatty acid content, including EPA and DHA, was higher than omega-6 fatty acids. H. aurantium body wall fatty acids exhibited enhanced immune response and anti-inflammatory effects on RAW264.7 macrophage-like cells. Under normal conditions, fatty acids significantly increase nitric oxide (NO) and PGE2 production in a dose-dependent manner, thereby improving the immune response. On the other hand, in LPS-treated RAW264.7 cells, fatty acids significantly decreased nitric oxide (NO) and PGE2 production in a dose-dependent manner, thereby enhancing anti-inflammatory effects. Fatty acids transcriptionally control the expression of the immune-associated genes, iNOS, IL-1β, IL-6, COX-2, and TNF-α, via the MAPK and NF-κB signaling cascades in RAW264.7 cells. However, in LPS-stimulated RAW264.7 cells, H. aurantium body wall fatty acids significantly inhibited expression of inflammatory cytokine; similarly, production of COX-2 and PGE2 was inhibited. The results of our present study provide insight into the immune-improving and anti-inflammatory effects of H. aurantium body wall fatty acids on macrophages. In addition, our study demonstrates that H. aurantium body wall is a potential source of immune regulatory components.

한국 남해에 출현하는 반딧불게르치(Acropoma japonicum)의 식성 (Feeding Habits of the Glowbelly Acropoma japonicum in the South Sea of Korea)

  • The feeding habits of the Glowbelly Acropoma japonicum were examined based on 849 specimens collected from the coastal waters of the South Sea of Korea. The total length (TL) of these specimens ranged from 2.6 to 13.0 cm. A. japonicum fed majorly on Euphausia pacifica (Euphausiacea, % index of relative importance; IRI, 51.9). However with growth, its diet shifted from copepoda to euphausiacea. Overall, as the body size of A. japonicum increased, the mean weight of prey within the stomach (mW/ST) increased.

국내 생물산업의 구조분해분석 (An Input-output Structural Decomposition Analysis of Korean Biotechnology Industry)

  • 생물공학기술을 이용하여 제품과 서비스를 창출하는 산업을 생물산업이라고 한다. 우리나라는 1999년부터 산업자원부가 생물산업의 범위를 8개 부문으로 분류하고 있으나 산업분류와 제품 분류, 기술 분류의 기준이 섞여 있어 통계자료를 이용한 현황 파악이 어려운 실정이다. 본 연구에서는 국내 생물산업의 현황 파악을 위해 한국생물산업협회의 매출조사자료를 근거로 하였다. 국내 생물산업제품의 상당수가 기존 산업의 수요구조를 따르는 것으로 가정하고 1985-90-95년의 접속불변산업연관표에서 국내 생물산업분야를 생물의약분야, 생물화학분야, 바이오식품분야, 생물농업분야, 생물공정 및 환경분야의 6개 분야로 분류ㆍ선정하였다. 1985년에서 1995년 기간의 최종재수요구조, 중간재 수요구조, 수입구조 등의 변화가 산출액 변화에 미친 기여도를 분석하기위해 변화요인을 크게 경제성장에 의한 효과와 수요구조변화에 의한 효과로 나눈 후 수요구조변화에 Syrquin 구조분해모형을 이용하였다. 분석결과 생물산업의 세부 각 분야들은 다양한 성장배경을 가지고 있으며 바이오식품과 생물농업분야를 제외한 생물산업분야는 사회적 수요가 성장을 이끌어왔음을 확인하였다. 또한 각 분야별 민간수요변화에 대한 대응과 수입ㆍ수출구조의 개선이 산업 성장에 필요함을 알 수 있었다.

차세대 해양생명공학사업 추진 전략수립 연구 (A study on Strategic Planning of Marine Biotechnology for Next Generation)

  • The aim of this project is to develop an adaptive and collective National Marine Biotechnology Plan for the next decade(2014~2023) which is able to reflect current and future changing environment. This effective strategy targets to foster marine-derived active bio-materials, marine bioenergy production technology and many promising technologies in order to promote marine biotechnology industry as a next-generation growth engine. Marine biotechnology industry based on R&D activities since 1980 has been growing as an emerging industry. This new field enables to secure exclusive patent rights and to find new potential bio-active materials from the ocean that requires long-term aggressive R&D investments. The current policy direction is to raise appropriate level of R&D investment because the current Korea's national marine biotechnology R&D fund ratio is less than 2% of the total national biotechnology R&D budget. The result shows three major strategies. First, it recommended a research implementation system and supporting policy that includes establishment of open innovation framework for the 'Industry-Academia-Research Institute Collaborations', strategic research planning and enhanced policy making process. Second, it derived state-of-the-art or new technology in many areas. Third, it formulated more detailed execution plans for successful R&D support and set up performance indicator system in related R&D program.

기술-산업 연계구조 및 특허 분석을 통한 미래유망 아이템 발굴 (Discovery of promising business items by technology-industry concordance and keyword co-occurrence analysis of US patents.)

  • This study relates to develop a quantitative method through which promising technology-based business items can be discovered and selected. For this study, we utilized patent trend analysis, technology-industry concordance analysis, and keyword co-occurrence analysis of US patents. By analyzing patent trends and technology-industry concordance, we were able to find out the emerging industry trends : prevalence of bio industry, service industry, and B2C business. From the direct and co-occurrence analysis of newly discovered patent keywords in the year, 2000, 28 promising business item candidates were extracted. Finally, the promising item candidates were prioritized using 4 business attractiveness determinants; market size, product life cycle, degree of the technological innovation, and coincidence with the industry trends. This result implicates that reliable discovery and selection of promising technology-based business items can be performed by a quantitative, objective and low- cost process using knowledge discovery method from patent database instead of peer review.

  • 왕겨초액은 최근 목초액을 대신할 수 있는 소재로 많은 연구가 이루어지고 있다. 본 연구는 왕겨초액과 목초액의 항산화 활성을 비교하고, 왕겨초액과 홍삼 및 로즈마리 농축액과의 발효를 통한 시료의 항산화 활성을 비교하여 보았다. DPPH와 FRAP 활성 실험을 통해 항산화 활성을 알아본 결과, 왕겨초액의 항산화 활성은 목초액 보다는 다고 미흡하나, 로즈마리와의 동시 발효를 통해 왕겨초액의 항산화 활성을 높일 수 있으므로, 이취 제거로 인한 기능성 소재로서의 가능성을 확인하였다.
