  • The thermochemical splitting of water has been proposed as a clean method for hydrogen production. The IS process is one of the thermochemical water splitting processes using iodine and sulfur as reaction agents. HI decomposition procedure to obtain hydrogen is one of the key operations in the process, because equilibrium conversion of HI is low (22% at $450^{\circ}C$). The silica membranes prepared by CVD. method were applied to the decomposition reaction of HI vapor. The permeation characteristics of hydrogen and nitrogen belong to the Knudsen flow pattern.

Evaluation of Robust Classifier Algorithm for Tissue Classification under Various Noise Levels

  • Ultrasonic surgical devices are routinely used for surgical procedures. The incision and coagulation of tissue generate a temperature of $40^{\circ}C-150^{\circ}C$ and depend on the controllable output power level of the surgical device. Recently, research on the classification of grasped tissues to automatically control the power level was published. However, this research did not consider the specific characteristics of the surgical device, tissue denaturalization, and so on. Therefore, this research proposes a robust algorithm that simulates noise to resemble real situations and classifies tissue using conventional classifier algorithms. In this research, the bioimpedance spectrum for six tissues (liver, large intestine, kidney, lung, muscle, and fat) is measured, and five classifier algorithms are used. A signal-to-noise ratio of additive white Gaussian noise diversifies the testing sets, and as a result, each classifier's performance exhibits a difference. The k-nearest neighbors algorithm shows the highest classification rate of 92.09% (p < 0.01) and a standard deviation of 1.92%, which confirms high reproducibility.

Mutagenic Analysis of hPNMT Confirms the Importance of Lys57 and the Inhibitor Binding Site

  • In previous report, with the aid of receptor-oriented pharmacophore-based in silico screening, we characterized three novel hPNMT inhibitors (YPN010, YPN016, and YPN017) and proposed that the hydrogen bonding interaction between inhibitors and side chain of Lys57 is very important to inhibitory activity of hPNMT. To confirm the importance of Lys57, mutant with substitution of Lys57 with Ala was cloned and binding study was performed for a K57A mutant of hPNMT using STD-NMR and fluorescence experiments. The binding constants for three novel inhibitors with mutant hPNMT were dramatically decreased compared to those with wild-type protein. K57A mutant-induced conversion of noradrenaline to adrenaline was suppressed about 95 % compared to wild-type hPNMT. Mutagenic analysis using a K57A mutant confirmed the importance of the Lys57 residue in binding of the inhibitor candidate to hPNMT as well as enzymatic activity of hPNMT, implying that these results are consistent with our binding model.

  • Drug delivery to the brain is facilitated by the synthesis of chimeric peptides, where in neuropharmaceuticals are linked to a vector such as an antibody to the transferrin receptor that mediates transcytosis through the blood-brain barrier (BBB). When disulfide linkers are used in the chimeric peptide, it is crucial that the S-S bridge is stable during transit and that cleavage does not occur prematurely within endothelial cells, as the peptide drug moiety would then be sequestered by the BBB instead of passing through it. The present study addressed that problem. As a model drug a metabolically stable opioid peptide, [$^3$H]DALDA (Tyr-dArg-Phe-Lys-NH$_2$), was used. It was monobiotinylated with NHS-SS-biotin to yield bio-[$^3$H]DALDA. The biotinylated peptide was bound to the vector OX26-SA which is a covalent conjugate of OX26 and streptavidin (molar ratio = 1: 1). In vitro treatment of the chimeric peptide, bio-[$^3$H]DALDA/OX26-SA, with a reducing agent, dithiothreitol, released the labeled peptide from the vector by conversion of bio-[$^3$H]DALDA to the desbiotinylated derivative, desbio-[$^3$H]DALDA.

재사용이 가능한 MFB로부터 AMCA의 합성 공정 개발 (Practical Process Development of AMCA from Recyclable Source MFB)

  • 재활용이 가능한 자원인 MFB를 출발 물질로 하여 AMCA의 합성을 진행하였으며, AMBA로부터 AMCA로의 최적의 상업화 합성 조건을 찾고자 촉매, 수소 압력, 반응 온도, 반응 시간 같은 공정 변수를 조사하였다. 최적의 조건은 촉매는 [5% Pd/C : 5% Pt/C : 5% Rh/C (1 : 1 : 1)]의 복합 촉매를 반응 시간은 8 h, 반응 온도는 $130^{\circ}C$, 압력은 30 bar일 때(수율 90%, 순도 99.9%)임을 확인하였다.

  • In this paper, design, simulation, fabrication method, and measured results of a digital frequency discriminator(DFD) operating in E, F, and G band are introduced. We describe the direct conversion scheme(DCS) with microwave integrated-circuit(MIC) developed for the small-area and high-speed system. When the input signal is the pulse with a pulse width of 100 ns, accuracy of frequencies measured by the DFD has 1.335 MHz RMS at no noise and 2.64 MHz RMS at signal-to-noise(S/N) ratio within 3 dB in E, F, and G band, which nearly satisfy the specification of 2.5 MHz RMS.

  • 유류 누출 사고로 오염된 해양 갯벌에서 분리된 Yangia sp. TSB01은 인돌을 인디고로 생물전환 할 수 있는 특성이 있다. 미생물에서 인디고는 산화효소에 의해 인돌로부터 인독실을 거쳐 생성된다. Yangia sp. TSBP01의 유전체는 2개의 chromosome과 5개의 plasmid로 구성되어 있으며, 총 5,165,974 bp의 크기에 G + C 함량은 66.5%이다. TSBP01는 인디고를 생성하는데 관여하는 indole oxygenase를 보유하고 있다.

Comparison Study of Thermal Decomposition Characteristics of Wattle & Pine Tannin-based Adhesives

  • This study investigated the thermogravimetric analysis of two types of cured tannin-based adhesives from wattle and pine, with three hardeners of paraformaldehyde, hexamethylenetetramine and TN (tris(hydroxyl)nitromethan), at a temperature of 170℃ and a heating rate of 5, 10, 20 and 40℃/min for 10 minutes. The 5 minutes cured wattle tannin-based adhesive with each hardener at 170℃ was also tested to compare the degree of curing. It was found that thermogravimetric analysis could be used to measure the degree of curing of a thermosetting adhesive. The TG-DTG curves of all the adhesive systems were similar and showed three steps in a similar way to a phenolic resin. This means that each adhesive system is well cross-linked. However, a high thermal decomposition rate was shown at 150 to 400℃ in the case of the pine tannin sample with TN (tris(hydroxyl)nitromethan). The Flynn & Wall expression was used to evaluate the activation energy for thermal decomposition. As the level of conversion (𝛼) increased, the activation energy of each system increased. The activation energy of the wattle tannin-based adhesive with paraformaldehyde was higher than the others.

  • The conversion of mechanical energy into electrical energy at nanoscale using piezoelectric nanowire arrays has been in detail shown by deflection of nanowires. Recently it has performed an analytical model, both at classical and at quantum level, for describing the most important quantities concerning transport phenomena; the model predicts interesting peculiarities, as high initial charge diffusion in nanodevices constituting by nanowires and permits also in particular to deduce interesting informations about the devices sensitivity, focusing on the correlation between sensitivity and high initial diffusivity of these materials at nanometric level.

  • Most of the recently developed robots are human friendly robots which imitate an animal or human such as entertainment robot, bio-mimetic robot and humanoid robot. Interest in these robots are increasing since the social trend is focused on health, welfare, and graying. By these social backgrounds, robots become more human friendly and suitable for home or personal environment. The more bio-mimetic robots resemble living creature, the more human feels familiarity. People feel close friendship not only when they feed a pet, but also when they watch a pet having the food. Most of entertainment robots and pet robots use internal-type batteries and have a self-recharging function. Entertainment robots and pet robots with internal-type batteries are not able to operate during charging the battery. So far there have been a few robots that do not depend on a battery. However, they need a bulky energy conversion unit and a slug or foods as an energy source, which is not suitable for home or personal application. In this paper, we introduce a new bio-mimetic entertainment robot with autonomous feeding functionality, called ELIRO-1(Eating LIzard RObot version 1). The ELIRO-1 is able to find a food (a small battery), feed by itself and evacuate. We describe the design concept of the autonomous feeding mechanism of the ELIRO-1, characteristics of sub-parts of the manufactured mechanism and the control system.
