Fresh ginseng is prone to spoilage due to its high moisture content. For long-term storage, most fresh ginsengs are dried to white ginseng (WG) or steamed for hours at high temperature/pressure and dried to form Korean Red ginseng (KRG). They are further processed for ginseng products when subjected to hot water extraction/concentration under pressure. These WG or KRG preparation processes affect ginsenoside compositions and also other ginseng components, probably during treatments like steaming and drying, to form diverse bioactive phospholipids. It is known that ginseng contains high amounts of gintonin lysophosphatidic acids (LPAs). LPAs are simple lipid-derived growth factors in animals and humans and act as exogenous ligands of six GTP-binding-protein coupled LPA receptor subtypes. LPAs play diverse roles ranging from brain development to hair growth in animals and humans. LPA-mediated signaling pathways involve various GTP-binding proteins to regulate downstream pathways like [Ca2+]i transient induction. Recent studies have shown that gintonin exhibits anti-Alzheimer's disease and antiarthritis effects in vitro and in vivo mediated by gintonin LPAs, the active ingredients of gintonin, a ginseng-derived neurotrophin. However, little is known about how gintonin LPAs are formed in high amounts in ginseng compared to other herbs. This review introduces atypical or non-enzymatic pathways under the conversion of ginseng phospholipids into gintonin LPAs during steaming and extraction/concentration processes, which exert beneficial effects against degenerative diseases, including Alzheimer's disease and arthritis in animals and humans via LPA receptors.
Optimal agitation speed and aeration rate for the production of gellan by Sphingomnas paucibilis NK2000 in a 7 l bioreactor were found to be 400 rpm and 1.0 vvm. The best time for glucose feeding into the medium for enhanced production of gellan by S. paucibilis NK2000 was 36 hr after cultivation. The concentrations of gellan produced by S. paucibilis NK2000 from 1) 20.0 g/l glucose without additional feeding, 2) 20.0 g/l glucose with feeding of 200.0 g/l glucose at 36 hr, in which the final concentration in the medium was 10.0 g/l, 3) 20 g/l glucose with feeding of 200.0 g/l glucose and a shift in an agitation speed from 400 to 600 rpm, 4) 20.0 g/l glucose with feeding of 200.0 g/l glucose at 36 hr and shifts in an agitation speed from 400 to 600 rpm and an aeration rate from 1.0 to 1.5 vvm, 5) and 20.0 g/l glucose with feeding of 200.0 g/l glucose at 36 hr and shifts in an agitation speed from 400 to 600 rpm and an aeration rate from 1.0 to 2.0 vvm, were 5.19, 5.74, 6.73, 7.93, and 9.40 g/l, respectively, and their conversion rates from glucose were 26.0, 19.1, 22.4, 26.4, and 31.3%, respectively. Compared to those developed using a normal process, production of gellan by S. paucibilis NK2000 from 20.0 g/l glucose was 1.81 times higher, and and its conversion rate was 1.20 times higher when the optimized process developed in this study was used.
This study was conducted to investigated the distribution, ecological character and life cycle of Black Soldier Fly(BSF), Hermetia illucens, to determine effects of BSF on composing ability to the livestock feces. The distribution of BSF was defined in all parts of the country in Korea. Its main habitat was found to be areas near cattle sheds, feces sheds, living waste dump grounds, and food waste dump grounds. Excellent species of the bio-conversion using the livestock feces were selected out of two kinds of solider flies(Hermetia illucens and Ptecticus tenebrifer). And effects of BSF on composing ability to the livestock feces were pig feces 0.5 g, cattle feces 0.43 g and chicken feces 0.3 g per a larvae of BSF. In the examination of the ability of BSF to decompose food waste, volume of the livestock feces decreased by weight pig feces 77, cattle feces 83.62 and chicken feces 80%. Observed characteristics of BSF larvae and pupae stage were by developmental stage may be summarized as follows: size and length of larvae and pupae of BSF were higher than in pig feces and mixed sawdust treatments. In order to develop artificial indoor rearing techniques, The pupation and emergence rate were not visible the difference but important factor of the mating and egg-laying was a sun light. And it was visible the difference in mating ratio. Mating rate of H. illucens by seasonal change was the highest from May to July. Mating mostly occurred between 10 : 00 and 12 : 00 during which light intensity is high. As the egg-laying medium for artificial egg collection, calf feed and food waste were most effective. The ratio of egg-laying medium is waste food : sawdust(1 : 1) in volume. For egg-laying materials, flower foam and wood with holes were used; holes sized 3 ~ 5 mm in diameter, 7 ~ 10 mm in depth were most preferred for egg-laying.
This study was conducted to investigate the effects of graded levels of a herbal recipe(Herb Mix $Gold^{(R)}$, Herb BIO Co.) supplemented to a commercial layer diet. The Herb Mix $Gold^{(R)}$ is an improved recipe of Herb $Mix^{(R)}$, fortified with Angelica gigas, Discorea japonica and Ligusticum jeholense. A total of 720 layers (Hy-Line Brown) of 45 wks old were assigned to one of six treatments; control, 0.2% Herb $Mix^{(R)}$, 0.1%, 0.2%, and 0.3% Herb Mix $Gold^{(R)}$, and 6 ppm Avilamycin. Each treatment had 6 replicates of 20 birds each housed in 2 birds cages. Birds were fed diets and water ad libitum for 5 weeks. Hen-day egg production was significantly (P<0.05) different among treatments. Herb Mix $Gold^{(R)}$ 0.2% treatment showed the highest egg production followed by Herb Mix $Gold^{(R)}$ 0.3%, Herb $Mix^{(R)}$ 0.2%, Herb Mix $Gold^{(R)}$ 0.1%, Avilamycin 6 ppm and the control. Hen-housed egg production, egg weight, soft and broken egg ration, feed intake, feed conversion ratio, shell strength, shell thickness, shell color index, Haugh unit and yolk color index were not significantly different among treatments. Nor was cfu of Cl. perfringens and E. coli and Lactobacilli in the small intestinal content significantly different among treatments. The number of white and red blood cells, hemoglobin, heterophil, lymphocyte, thus heterophil to lymphocyte ratio were not significantly modified. It was concluded that Herb Mix $Gold^{(R)}$ at the level of 0.2% in the layer diet improves laying performance.

This study was conducted to determine the maintenance energy requirements of growing goats in order to establish an appropriate energy benefit system, to reduce feed costs and improve livestock productivity of goat farmers, and to present basic data for detailed specifications afterwards. This experiment was conducted as a group specification test for a total of 3 months, with 32 goats of three months age and conducted by four treatments with different energy levels (T1: NRC+0%, T2: NRC+10%, T3: NRC+20%, and T4: NRC+30%). The average daily gain was the highest in the treated with NRC + 10% of the energy level of the experimental diet, and the feed conversion ratio was in the range of 6.3 g to 7.3 g in the group feeding experiment. Although there was no significant difference in digestibility between treatments, the digestibility of dry matter, crude protein, and crude fat was higher in T2 treated with NRC + 10% than the other treatments. Through the regression equation of the values of MEI and ADG obtained through the experiment (Y=0.5439X+111.51, R2=0.712), the maintenance energy requirement of the goat in the growing period was estimated to be 111.51 kcal/kgBW0.75.
Sanitary management with step-by-step working process and dietician's perception against them at 98 food service institutions located in Jeollabuk-Do were surveyed. Food service institutions included 13 hospitals, 38 schools,40 enterprises, and 7 others. Practice ratio of sanitary management items at purchasing and receiving step of food and food materials in food service institutions were 59.2-98.0%, and they were higher than those of other steps. In pre-treatment step, practice ratio of 'Undoing treatment of foods on the ground' in hospital was higher (53.8%) than those of enterprise (32.5%) and school (34.2%), and needed the improvement of pre-treatment procedure in enterprise and school. Practice ratio of all sanitary management items in cooking step were below 30%, and needed the improvement of cooking procedure. In storage step, the improvement of cooking procedure in school and enterprise were needed. Practice ratio of all sanitary management items in distribution step were low, and needed the improvement of this working procedure. However, in spite of low practice ratio on these items, dietician's perception against sanitary management items in all steps was low. Therefore, we estimated that the improvement of working processes and the conversion of dietician' perception on sanitary managements in food service institutions were needed.

Silicon carbide is considered to be a potentially useful material for high-temperature electronic devices, as its band gap is larger than that of silicon and the p-type and/or n-type conduction can be controlled by impurity doping. Particularly, porous n-type SiC ceramics fabricated from ${\beta}-SiC$ powder have been found to show a high thermoelectric conversion efficiency in the temperature region of $800^{\circ}C$ to $1000^{\circ}C$. For the application of SiC thermoelectric semiconductors, their figure of merit is an essential parameter, and high temperature (above $800^{\circ}C$) electrodes constitute an essential element. Generally, ceramics are not wetted by most conventional braze metals,. but alloying them with reactive additives can change their interfacial chemistries and promote both wetting and bonding. If a liquid is to wet a solid surface, the energy of the liquid-solid interface must be less than that of the solid, in which case there will be a driving force for the liquid to spread over the solid surface and to enter the capillary gaps. Consequently, using Ag with a relatively low melting point, the junction of the porous SiC semiconductor-Ag and/or its alloy-SiC and/or alumina substrate was studied. Ag-20Ti-20Cu filler metal showed promise as the high temperature electrode for SiC semiconductors.

As environmental sustainability becomes a key consideration in policy-making, more responsible consumption and utilization in daily life concern both health and quality of life. To address inequities in health in relation to environments, waste management has taken more progressive ways, and one of them is biomass-to-energy conversion that utilizes energy recovery from food waste. By extension, a food waste zero-emission system using fermentation and extinction technology gains much attention, so that this study is designed to examine residents' attitudes toward recycling food waste produced at home and toward food waste zero-emission system. Utilizing a survey questionnaire, this research collected data from 400 individual units of multifamily housing estates nationwide, and the data were analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics. The findings indicate that food waste generated at home was highly water-contained and produced in the stage of food preparation before cooking while respondents viewed that food waste collection and treatment needed to be improved. It's noted that respondents strongly supported the use of food waste as a energy source and would have the use of the food waste zero-emission system built in kitchen sink. Regression analysis showed that educational attainment of housewives, cooking style, and planning food purchase were statistically significant factors in the attitude of the responded residents toward recycling food waste while none of the factors were in the attitude toward the food waste zero-emission system.

Recently, as living standards have improved, many people are becoming more interested in health, and self-training is increasing through exercise to prevent and manage pre-illness. In general, an imbalance of muscles causes asymmetry of posture, which can cause various diseases by accompanying an adjustment force, circulation action, displacement of internal organs, etc.. In this study, the development of fitness software that can be self - training among smart wears has attracted considerable attention in recent years. In this study, a technology was proposed for the commercialization of self - trainer fitness wear by a simulation through Android - based applications. Self - trainer fitness software was developed by combining a conductive polymer, fashion design, sewing, and electric and electronic technology to monitor the unbalance of the muscles during exercise and make smart wear that can calibrate the asymmetry by oneself. In particular, a polymer sensor was fabricated by deriving the optimal MWCNT concentration, and the electrode signal was collected by attaching the electrode to the optimal position, where the electrode signal line using the conductive fiber was designed and attached to collect the signal. A signal module that converts the bio-signals collected through electrical signal conversion and transmits them using Bluetooth communication was designed and manufactured. Self-trainer fitness software that can be commercialized was developed by combining noise cancellation with Android-based self-training application using a software algorithm method.

To investigate the effects of ionic liquid pretreatment on biomass, giant miscanthus was treated with 1-ethyl-3-methylimidazolium acetate ([Emim][OAc]) and 1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium acetate ([Bmim][OAc]) at three temperature conditions ($90^{\circ}C$, $110^{\circ}C$, and $130^{\circ}C$). As temperature condition increased, yield of the cellulose-rich product (CP) was reduced from 87.2% to 67.6%, while yield of the ionic liquid lignin (ILL) increased from 2.2% to 9.9%. Compared to the ILL, CP had lower carbon contents and higher oxygen contents. Enzymatic hydrolysis of CPs showed that conversion ratio of CP treated with [Emim][OAc] at $110^{\circ}C$ was 56.7%, the highest digestibility. Thermogravimetric analysis indicated that the maximum degradation rate decreased as temperature condition increased. In addition, maximum degradation temperature of ILL treated with [Emim][OAc] ranged from 274 to $279^{\circ}C$ which was lower than that of ILL treated with [Bmim][OAc]. Analytical date for ${\beta}$-O-4 linkage frequency in the ILL revealed that ${\beta}$-O-4 linkage frequency in the ILL decreased as the temperature rose. Furthermore, the highest S/G ratio of the ILL was determined to ca. 1.2 obtained from [Bmim][OAc] treatment at $110^{\circ}C$.
