The crystallinity and molecular weight of cotton linter need to be controlled to be more easily dissolved in NMMO during manufacture of clothing fabrics. Electron beam irradiation and sulfuric acid treatment were used as pre-treatment to reduce molecular weight of cotton linter more efficiently, and after the pre-treatment, peroxide bleaching was followed in alkaline condition. After those processes, the crystalline indices of the cotton linters were measured by XRD method, and other properties such as their alpha cellulose contents and degree of polymerization were measured. It was found that the crystallinity index of cotton linter was decreased as the irradiation of electron beam increased while increased as the dose of sulfuric acid increased. These results strongly suggested that electron beam damaged the crystalline structure of the cellulose directly while sulfuric acid dissolved mostly non-crystalline area of the cellulose structure.
Nanostructured copper compounds were grown by electrochemical anodization of copper foil in aqueous NaOH under varying conditions including electrolyte concentration, reaction temperature, current density, and reaction time. Their morphology and atomic composition were investigated by using SEM, TEM, XRD, EDS and XPS. At the conditions ([NaOH] = 1 M, $20^{\circ}C$, $2\;mA\;cm^{-2}$), wire-like orthorhombic $Cu(OH)_2$ nanobundles with an average width of 100 - 300 nm and length of $10\;{\mu}m$ were synthesized with the preferential [100] growth direction. Furthermore, when the concentration decreased to 0.5 M NaOH, the 1D nanobundle structure became narrower and longer without any change in compositions or crystalline structure. Side reaction pathways appeared to compete with the 1D nanostructure formation channels: the formation of CuO nanoleaves at $50^{\circ}C$ via the sequential dehydration of $Cu(OH)_2$, CuO/$Cu_2O$ aggregates in 4 M NaOH, and $Cu_2O$ nanoparticles and CuO nanosheets at lower current density.
Novel bio-polybutadiene polymers with controlled molecular weight (MW), MW distribution, chemical composition and micro structure were synthesized by a living anionic polymerization of butadiene and the subsequent coupling reaction of the thus obtained living polybutadiene and a vegetable oil. Anionic polymerization of butadiene was carried out in THF solvent using n-BuLi initiator. The resulting living polybutadienyllithium polymer was then reacted with epoxidized soybean oil (ESO) to obtain a star-polymer of polybutadiene and vegitable oil. Three different bio-elastomers were prepared by coupling living polybutadienes of MWs 1000, 5000 and 1000g/mol with ESO. The molecular structure and MW of the polybutadienes and bioelastomers were characterized by $^1H$-NMR, FTIR and GPC techniques.

Recently, as industries and technologies are increased, superior adhesives having more and more developed functions and properties have been demanded. In this article, to use the merits and viscoelastic properties of poly(ethylene/butylene) rubber resin and to supplement the demerits, semi-structure pressure sensitive adhesives (PSAs) are developed. Aslo, it can be said environmentally friendly PSAs because of not use the organic solvent and not emit volatile organic compounds (VOCs).
Human melanocortin-4 receptor (hMC4R) among MC-Rs, expressed in the brain, is in charge of the control on energy homeostasis and food intake. The structure and function of human MC4R have been studied to understand their essential function and roles. To investigate the structure and function, it is necessary to prepare sufficient amounts of proteins. However, their expression and purification is demanding and time-consuming due to their innate insoluble and toxic properties. The heterozygous mutations of hMC4R, exchange of Asp 90 to Asn located in second transmembrane, cause severe obesity in human. To obtain purified hMC4R wt-TM2 for structural studies, it was first over-expressed and purified by fast protein liquid chromatography (FPLC) and then solution NMR studies were performed to get high-resolution spectra. In here, we established optimized purification scheme to get more purified target peptide.
The present study relates to a matrix-typed, sustained-releasing agent comprising agrochemical effective ingredients being capable of recognizing a content of moisture, and a preparation method thereof. The curdlan solution added to acid was formed matrix which has unique network structure. The matrix treated by heat lost water solubility. The network structure of matrix was opened in the aquatic condition but closed again in dry condition. Therefore, in the sustained-releasing formulation system, an agrochemical effective ingredient was released from the formulation only in the aquatic condition. Use of the composition according to the product can control a manifesting time of effects of agrochemicals and can provide agrochemicals with reduced harmful damages.
Objective: Feed molecular structures can affect its availability to gastrointestinal enzymes which impact its digestibility and absorption. The molecular spectroscopy-attenuated total reflectance Fourier transform infrared vibrational spectroscopy (ATR-FTIR) is an advanced technique that measures the absorbance of chemical functional groups on the infrared region so that we can identify and quantify molecules and functional groups in a feed. The program aimed to reveal the association of intrinsic molecular structure with nutrient supply to animals from canola feedstocks and co-products from bio-oil processing. The objective of this study was to characterize special intrinsic carbohydrate and protein-related molecular structure spectral profiles of feedstock and co-products (meal and pellets) from bio-oil processing from two source origins: Canada (CA) and China (CH). Methods: The samples of feedstock and co-products were obtained from five different companies in each country arranged by the Canola Council of Canada (CCC). The molecular structure spectral features were analyzed using advanced vibrational molecular spectroscopy-ATR-FTIR. The spectral features that accessed included: i) protein-related spectral features (Amide I, Amide II, α-helix, β-sheet, and their spectral intensity ratios), ii) carbohydrate-related spectral features (TC1, TC2, TC3, TC4, CEC, STC1, STC2, STC3, STC4, TC, and their spectral intensity ratios). Results: The results showed that significant differences were observed on all vibrationally spectral features related to total carbohydrates, structural carbohydrates, and cellulosic compounds (p<0.05), except spectral features of TC2 and STC1 (p>0.05) of co-products, where CH meals presented higher peaks of these structures than CA. Similarly, it was for the carbohydrate-related molecular structure of canola seeds where the difference between CA and CH occurred except for STC3 height, CEC and STC areas (p>0.05). The protein-related molecular structures were similar for the canola seeds from both countries. However, CH meals presented higher peaks of amide I, α-helix, and β-sheet heights, α-helix:β-sheet ratio, total amide and amide I areas (p<0.05). Conclusion: The principal component analysis was able to explain over 90% of the variabilities in the carbohydrate and protein structures although it was not able to separate the samples from the two countries, indicating feedstock and coproducts interrelationship between CH and CA.
Random hexapeptide library on the surface of filamentous bacteriophage was constructed using the SurfZAP vector. The size of the library was approximately 105. The peptide insert was flanked by two cysteines to constrain the peptide structure with a disulfide bond. This library was screened for the topoisomerase II binding peptide. Dramatic enrichment of the fusion phage over the VCS M13 helper phage was demonstrated by bio-panning affinity selection.
