  • According to the Library Act enacted in 1963, the national bibliography of Korea has been publishing annually since 1965. Unlike countries around the world that have been promoting the continuous development of national bibliography and service innovation, Korean national bibliography is rarely used due to service degradation and structural problems of data. The national bibliography has great significance as a symbol that reflects a country's knowledge culture, as it is a comprehensive records of publications published domestically or related to the country. This study intends to propose a data construction and operation strategy for improving the Korean national bibliography. To this end, this study (1) analyzes trends and key contents of international guidelines for national bibliography, (2) examines the meanings and sustainability of national bibliography at current information environment, and (3) suggests detailed operational strategies to improve the quality and service of Korean national bibliography. Data was collected and utilized through case studies, interviews with stakeholders including national library staffs, and literature reviews.

The data were collected from a interview with 51 people from 4 groups (librarian, researcher, publishing distributor, end user) that are expected to use national bibliography. • Usage and scope of the word Bibliography in comparison with in conventional Chinese Catalogue (中國 在來 目錄學) (1) Usage of the word in connection with the study of books in the West has been changed from 'writing of books' (17th century) to the meaning of 'study of a book as an object'(l8th century), and this meaning of the 18th century has been transmitted up to the present. (2) In its scope, 14 branches(eight in physical aspect, six in content of books) were set up independently for the study of a book as an object. On the other hand, the term Textual Bibliography(校수學) was in use in China before the Opium War, however the word Catalogue (目錄學) has been a current word for the subject study as in the case of Bibliography in the West. And in the scope of study of a book as an object, although some of its aspect is somewhat similar to the Occidental Bibliorgraphy, the main stream of learning is regregarded as the root and the physical aspects as branches and lea leaves, thus the latter has been treated with less importance.

  • The purpose of this article is to examine the research trends of 'bibliography' in Korea. By utilizing citation analysis methods, total 1,321 cited references of the 51 articles published by ${\ulcorner}Journal of the Institute of Bibliography{$\lrcorner}$ in 2000 and 2001 are analysed. This analysis is focused on an article's subjects and authors'occupations, the numbers and journal categories of its cited references. Also, this study observes the nationalities and languages of cited references and various items related to authors of cited references. The most of findings of this study are similar to the previous studies. However, it could find that there are minor differences from the existing literatures, in respect to subject areas, the number of cited references and the forms of cited references. In conclusion, this study recommends that bibliographers's collaborative works with related fields such as history and library and information science need to be strengthened, and that qualitative apaches as well as citation analysis methods might be beneficial for further expansion of academic scope of 'bibliography'.

  • This paper is to grasp the current trends of national bibliographies through analyzing representative national bibliographies using literature review, analysis of national bibliographies' web pages and survey. First, in order to conform to the definition of a national bibliography as a record of a national publication, it attempts to include a variety of materials from print to electronic resources, but in reality it cannot contain all the materials, so there are exceptions. It is impossible to create a general selection guide for national bibliography coverage, and a plan that reflects the national characteristics and prepares a valid and comprehensive coverage based on analysis is needed. Second, cooperation with publishers and libraries is being made to efficiently generate national bibliography. For the efficiency of national bibliography generation, changes should be sought such as the standardization and consistency, the collection level metadata description for digital resources, and the creation of national bibliography using linked data. Third, national bibliography is published through the national bibliographic online search system, linked data search, MARC download using PDF, OAI-PMH, SRU, Z39.50, and mass download in RDF/XML format, and is integrated with the online public access catalog or also built separately. Above all, national bibliographies and online public access catalogs need to be built in a way of data reuse through an integrated library system. Fourth, as a differentiated function for national bibliography, various services such as user tagging and national bibliographic statistics are provided along with various browsing functions. In addition, services of analysis of national bibliographic big data, links to electronic publications, and mass download of linked data should be provided, and it is necessary to identify users' needs and provide open services that reflect them in order to develop differentiated services. Through the current trends and considerations of the national bibliographies analyzed in this study, it will be possible to explore changes in national and international national bibliography.

And they were able to collect lots of books in China. It was various the way that they collected the materials. During one's stay in China as a student, they asked them give the books, or bought it at government expense. Their primary responsibility was to study and collect the classical canon, the Buddhist Sutras etc. Majority of the collected materials were classical canon and the Buddhist Sutras. It was put inside the Pagoda when it was built in 751(in the 10th year of king Kyong-Duk). This is the worldwide cultural property of which we are proud.
