The purpose of this paper is to development an algorithm for FRBR implementation(functional requirements for bibliographic records), analyzing KORMARC bibliographic records by work types. For this purpose, it was utilized analyzing home and foreign case studies including OCLC and LC's algorithm. Analyzing the experimental data from the Korean National Library's bibliographic records, it was extracted from identifying elements by FRBR's four bibliographic entities. To cluster a related works by work-set, the algorithm was designed to construct the authorized access points as a combination of an author name and a title from the record. I suggested that it should be wholly improved a quality of existing bibliographic records and level of data input to development a FRBR algorithm in Korean libraries.

This study aims at defining the concept of OPAC, tracing of research trends and development of it, and clarifying various methods of subject access and patterns of bibliographic searching in OPAC as well as strategies for improving to implement online catalogs. Although OPAC is so far the most user-friendly bibliographic searching method, there are still a lot of issues including online subject access in particular. Therefore a more effective and useful method for computer end-users have to be developed, for instance, improvement of an indexing system, a n.0, pplication of the classification system as a searching tool, a new design and construction of standardized thesaurus, betterment of user interface, introducing of expert system into bibliographic searching, establishment of subject authority file. Those would raise the success-rate of users seeking bibliographic information in the library catalogs. Korean libraries are in very early stage of OPAC implementation so that every efforts and concerns to improve strategies and techniques for subject access to OPAC have been strongly asked.

LRIs are identifier schemes for reliable information access. To achieve more reliable access to resource this study used existing bibliographic numbers, ISBN, ISSN, NBN as URM. For the purpose of this study, 10 study standards from the RUN requirement of function capability. coding capability, and URM framework were set. Under the standards examined existing bibliographic numbers can be used as URN and so URN resolution systems using existing bibliographic numbers were desisted.
This paper intends to introduce various bibliographic CD-ROM database products which can be employed in library environments instead of practising online bibliographic searching. However, impacts and future prospectives of CD-ROM searching on online bibliographic searching are explored. Possible applicable areas of CD-ROM technologies in Korean library setting are recommended.

It was difficult for user to identify e-books due to some problems such as duplicable bibliographic records and inconsistent descriptive cataloging when cataloging the bibliographic records of the e-book packages in OPAC. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to find the applicable methods of the provider neutral e-book(e-monograph) MARC record guideline for the standardization of the bibliographic records of the provider supplied e-book package. Through the literature reviews and homepage analysis of 15 university libraries in domestic, the theoretical background on cataloging e-book, the descriptive cataloging of e-book, the provider-neutral e-monograph MARC record guideline as new standard for e-book, and the libraries practices of cataloging bibliographic records of the e-book package were inquired. Based on these analysis, it was to suggest applicable methods of provider neutral e-book(e-monograph) MARC record guideline for the standardization of the bibliographic records of domestic e-book packages in aspect of cataloging rule, KORMARC, and neutral bibliographic records. This study will contribute to build FRBRization of the e-books in OPAC as finding the guideline for the standardization of the bibliographic records of the e-book packages for both providers and libraries.

In this study, the present condition of 8 Open APIs for books, such as Naver, Daum, Aladdin, Amazon, Google, KERIS, LibraryThing, and OCLC, were compared and analyzed. In addition, the bibliographic records of 167 samples of visible 'light & paraphotic' (DDC 535) classifications were selected from the bibliographic records of the library of C university, and the effectiveness of the Open APIs were compared and analyzed. On the basis of the results of this analysis, 12 Open API application models, which were judged to be useful in expanding the function of the access point of the bibliographic records and enhancing the library catalog using Open API, were experimentally implemented. Various methods of augmenting access points of bibliographic records and expanded library catalogue were investigated using the unique identifier described in the KORMARC fields of 001, 010, 012, 020, 035, 246, 505, 520, 850, 856 for the integrated format for bibliographic data, and Open API. Finally, using Open API for the brief display and detailed display screen as a result of search of the OPAC of the sample bibliographic records, the devices for the expanding library catalog were implemented as examples.

The Functional Requirements for Bibliographic Records (FRBR) is a 'conceptual model of the bibliographic universe' developed by the International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions (IFLA). Although some studies have suggested improvements in FRBR, and others explore alternative approaches, less attention has been paid to analyzing the internal coherence and consistency of the FRBR view as presented not only in the FRBR entity-relationship model and text of the FRBR document, but also in the related explanations and presentations of FRBR expositors. Our investigations have noted some interesting discrepancies between the general FRBR approach as presented in various expository documents and the specific account presented in the FRBR ER model and the FRBR document. We see that in one case these discrepancies can be easily remedied by adding additional modeling constructs and assertions, but in another case (the supposed 'inheritance' of attributes across the Group 1 entities), there is a substantial difficulty in maintaining a consistent model. We discuss several alternative approaches to enhancing the expressiveness of FRBR in order remedy this problem. We note that none is entirely satisfactory.

The purpose of this study is measure library use behaviors among faculty members and faculty awarenesses toward bibliographic education for undergraduates. Questionnaire listings offered by C university library were sent 200 faculties. 56% responded questionnaires were analyzed. The results are as follows. $\circledS1$They used library one more times per a month and during vocations & prefered to use scholarly journals. $\circledS2$They wanted 'subscription for scholarly journals,' 'inter-library loan,' but they seldom experienced in inter-library loan. $\circledS3$They gained the library skills in experiences and they had the average level of library skills. They used secondary sources and recognized traditional reference services. $\circledS5$They intended to bibliographic education for the faculty and the wanted group of 10 less and education for the new faculty members. $\circledS6$They though the students should be able to learn needed library skills. but wasn't necessary. $\circledS7$They intended to intergrate bibliographic education and cooperate with librarians. But they hadn't been familiar with librarians and encouraged students to use library.

This study discusses the quality issue of large scientific and technical (S&T) bibliographic databases in South Korea. In details, this study develops the criteria to evaluate the quality of S&T bibliographic databases, evaluates the quality of the selected two databases - UN10N DB and SATURN DB of the KORDIC, and finally, suggests both organizational and technical methods for the quality improvement of such bibliographic databases.

Library communities face many problems and limitations in describing alternative format materials based on the traditional MAchine Readable Cataloging (MARC) structure. To address these problems, this research proposes an XML-based descriptive metadata framework that establishes general but fundamental bibliographic aspects of various alternative format materials by providing core elements that are essential in describing these materials. Different from existing bibliographic structures, the proposed metadata framework can represent a fundamental descriptive structure by establishing four upper-level categories, 17 core elements, and 10 sub-elements in a hierarchical structure optimized to alternative format materials. By using this principal descriptive structure, the proposed metadata framework can guide different institutions in the creation of bibliographic records for these materials in a consistent way. It is also expected to address the difficulties in describing alternative format materials in library communities and enhance the information accessibility of individuals with various types of disabilities. In addition, the proposed metadata framework is an alternative approach which functions as a mediator between heterogeneous characteristics of alternative format materials and the existing bibliographic structures in library communities.
