A new finite element model for the hydrostatic extrusion of a biaxial bar is introduced. In this model, a penalty contact algorithm, which is adopted to replace the traction boundary conditions due to the fluid in the container of the extruder, is incorporated into a consistent penalty finite element formulation for the viscoplastic deformation of a work piece during hydrostatic extrusion. Two parameters, introduced in the penalty contact algorithm in this study, a critical penalty contact pressure $P_0$ and a critical penalty contact distance $D_c$, are carefully examined for various process conditions. The proposed finite element model is applied to the hydrostatic extrusion of a Cu-clad Al bar. The extrusion loads and thickness ratios of the clad materials by the proposed model are compared in detail to values from experiments reported in the literature. Finally, it is concluded that the proposed finite element model is useful in practical implementations.
This study investigated the bond characteristics of embedded deformed steel bar in donut type biaxial hollow slabs. The donut type hollow sphere make concrete inner cover formed between steel bar and hollow sphere due to the hollow shape and arrangement. Generally, inner cover was thinner than outer cover, and some part of donut type biaxial hollow slab has smaller inner cover thickness than $2.5d_b$. It was affected to the bond condition of deformed bar. Furthermore, inner cover thickness changes along the longitudinal deformed bar due to hollow shape. Therefore, donut type hollow slab was divided 3 regions according to the hollow shape such as insufficient region, transition region, sufficient region. Pull-out test were performed to find out the effect of bond condition by the region. Main parameters are inner cover thickness, embedded length and bond location. Bond characteristics of donut type biaxial hollow slab were confirmed through comparison of bond stress-slip relationship, maximum bond strength and bond stress distribution of each regions. And the calculation method of bond strength of donut type biaxial hollow slab was suggested based on the test results.

In the PCA Load Contour Method, the biaxial bending design coefficient of columns(${\beta}$) is based on the equivalent rectangular stress block (RSB). And coefficient of ${\beta}$ estimates the reinforcement index to be a influencing parameter on biaxial moment strength of RC columns without considering the arbitrary condition of bar arrangement. The experimental results of high strength concrete (HSC) columns subjected to combined axial load and biaxial bending moment were compared to the analysis results of RSB method. As result, the accuracy of RSB method is still acceptable for HSC columns and, as the reinforcement is placed densely in each corner of column section, the ${\beta}$ is decreased.

Specimens of 304 stainless steel were tested to failure at elevated temperatures under multiaxial stress states, uniaxial tension using smooth bar specimens, biaxial shearing using double shear bar specimens, and triaxial tension using notched bar specimens. Rupture times are compared for uniaxial, biaxial, and triaxial stress states with respect to the maximum principal stress, the von Mises effective stress, and the principal facet stress. The results indicate that the principal facet stress gives the best correlation for the material investigated, and this parameter can predict creep life data under multiaxial stress states with rupture data obtained with specimens under uniaxial stresses. The results also suggest that grain boundary cavitation, coupled with localized deformation processes such as grain boudary sliding, controls the lifetimes of the specimens.
High-temperature rupture behavior of 5083-Al alloy was tested for failure at 548K under multiaxial stress conditions: uniaxial tension using smooth bar specimens, biaxial shearing using double shear bar specimens, and triaxial tension using notched bar specimens. Rupture times were compared for uniaxial, biaxial, and triaxial stress conditions with respect to the maximum principal stress, the von Mises effective stress, and the principal facet stress. The results indicate that the von Mises effective and principal facet stresses give good correlation for the material investigated, and these parameters can predict creep life data under the multiaxial stress states with the rupture data obtained from specimens under the uniaxial stress. The results suggest that the creep rupture of this alloy under the testing condition is controlled by cavitation coupled with highly localized deformation process, such as grain boundary sliding. It is also conceivable that strain softening controls the highly localized deformation modes which result in cavitation damage in controlling rupture time of this alloy.

Purpose: Surface damage and bonding strength difference after micromechanical treatment of zirconia surface are to be studied yet. The aim of this study was to evaluate the difference of fracture resistance and bonding strength between more surface-damaged group from higher air-blasting particle size and pressure, and less damaged group. Materials and Methods: Disk shape zirconia ($LAVA^{TM}$) was sintered and air-blasted with $30{\mu}m$ particle size (Cojet), under 2.8 bar for 15 seconds, $110{\mu}m$ particle size (Rocatec), under 2.8 bar for 15 seconds, and $110{\mu}m$ particle size (Rocatec), under 3.8 bar for 30 seconds respectively. Biaxial flexure test and bonding failure load test were performed serially (n = 10 per group). For bonding test, specimens were bonded on the base material having similar modulus of elasticity of dentin with $200{\mu}m$-thick resin cement for tension of surface damage. Failure load of bonding was detected with acoustic emission (AE) sensor. Results: There were no significant differences both in the biaxial flexure test and bonding failure load test between groups (P > 0.05). Sub-surface cracks were all radial cracks except for two specimens. Conclusion: Within the limitations of no aging under monotonic load test, surface damage from higher air-blasting particle size and pressure was not significant. Evaluations of failure load with bonded zirconia disks was clinically relevant modality for surface damage and bonding strength, simultaneously.
PURPOSE. The aims of this study were to investigate mechanical properties and hydrothermal degradation behaviour of the cubic-containing translucent yttrium oxide stabilized tetragonal zirconia polycrystal (Y-TZP). MATERIALS AND METHODS. Four groups of Y-TZP (T, ST, XT, and P), containing different amount of cubic crystal, were examined. Specimens were aged by autoclaving at 122℃ under 2 bar pressure for 8 h. Phase transformation was analyzed using X-ray diffraction (XRD) to measure phase transformation (t→m). Kruskal-Wallis test was used to determine the difference. Surface hardness, biaxial flexural strength, and fracture toughness in values among the experimental groups and verified with Wilcoxon matched pairs test for hardness values and Mann Whitney U for flexural strength and fracture toughness. RESULTS. XRD analysis showed no monoclinic phase in XT and P after aging. Only Group T showed statistically significant decreases in hardness after aging. Hydrothermal aging showed a significant decrease in flexural strength and fracture toughness in group T and ST, while group XT and P showed no effect of aging on fractural strength and fracture toughness with P<.05. CONCLUSION. Hydrothermal aging caused reduction in mechanical properties such as surface hardness, biaxial flexural strength, and fracture toughness of Y-TZP zirconia. However, cubic-containing zirconia (more than 30% by volume of cubic crystal) was assumed to have high resistance to hydrothermal degradation. Clinical significance: Cubic-containing zirconia could withstand the intraoral aging condition. It could be suggested to use as a material for fabrication of esthetic dental restoration.

A ground motion resulting from the destructive earthquakes can subject reinforced concrete members to very large forces. The reinforced concrete shear walls are designed as earthquake-resistant members of building structure in order to prevent severe damage due to the ground motions. The current research activities on seismic behavior of reinforced concrete member under ground motions have been limited to the shaking table test or equivalent static cyclic test and the obtained results have been summarized and proposed for the seismic design retrofit of structural columns or shear walls. The present study predicted the seismic response and failure behavior of reinforced concrete shear wall subjected to base acceleration using the finite element method. A decrease in strength and stiffness, yielding of reinforcing bar, and repetition of crack closing and opening due to seismic load with cyclic nature are accompanied by the crack which is necessarily expected to take place in concrete member. In this study the nonlinear material models for concrete and reinforcing bar based on biaxial stress field and algorithm of dynamic analysis were combined to construct the analytical program using the finite element method. The analytical seismic response and failure behaviors of reinforced concrete shear wall subjected to several base accelerations were compared with reliable experimental result.
Based on the orthotropic hypoelasticity formulation, a constitutive material model of concrete taking account of triaxial stress state is presented. In this model, the ultimate strength surface of concrete in triaxial stress space is described by the Hsieh's four-parameter surface. On the other hand, the different ultimate strength surface of concrete in strain space is proposed in order to account for increasing ductility in high confinement pressure. Compressive ascending and descending behavior of concrete is considered. Concrete cracking behavior is considered as a smeared crack model, and after cracking, the tensile strain-softening behavior and the shear mechanism of cracked concrete are considered. The proposed constitutive model of concrete is compared with some results obtained from tests under the states of uniaxial, biaxial, and triaxial stresses. In triaxial compressive tests, the peak compressive stress from the predicted results agrees well with the experimental results, and ductility response under high confining pressure matches well the experimental result. The reinforcing bars embedded in concrete are considered as an isoparametric line element which could be easily incorporated into the isoparametric solid element of concrete, and the average stress - average strain relationship of the bar embedded in concrete is considered. From numerical examples for a reinforced concrete simple beam and a structural beam type member, the stress state of concrete in the vicinity of talc critical region is investigated.

An analytical finite element approach to nonlinear behavior of reinforced concrete shear walls with opening under monotonic loading was presented in this paper. In order to achieve the objectives of present paper, the orthogonal anisotropic models for cracked reinforced concrete element based on smeared crack concept were used as the nonlinear material models of biaxial state of stress. The stiffness of cracked concrete was evaluated through the combined use of tension and compression stiffness models in and parallel directions of crack, respectively and shear transfer effect due to the aggregate interlocking at crack surface. The stress and strain of reinforcement in concrete was evaluated using the average stress and average strain relation with bond effect. based on smeared crack concept. The diagonal reinforcing bar was modeled using truss element with bond effect. A special significance of diagonal reinforcement near opening was given to the shear wall with opening and an effective distribution of diagonal reinforcement was presented in order to give an ultimate strength increment as well as a crack control.
