  • Increasingly stringent emission regulations of EU and CARB (California Air resource Board) require mandatory OBD (On Board Diagnostics) far the catalytic converters of a vehicle. It demands that MIL(Malfunction Indication Light) should be tuned on to inform the driver of catalytic converter failures. Currently dual oxygen sensor method Is widely used for the converter OBD. However, since it works only alter converter light-off, it has a serious limitation when applied to TLEV or more stringent emission regulations where more than 85% of total emission is coming out before converter light-off. In addition, a recent development in catalyst material. coating technology and additive catalysts leads to a much improved OSC (Oxygen Storage Capacity) after converter light-off, current methods are very difficult to determine levels of converter aging. Therefore, it is desired to develop an OSC detecting method before converter light-off to diagnose converter failures with higher reliability. In this study, OSCs of converters are measured by an absolute measuring method and a dynamic measuring method, and some of fundamental ideas are suggested about converter OBD before converter light-off. The converters are aged with two different aging methods; those are a furnace aging and an engine bench aging: to represent aging conditions in actual field applications. Dual oxygen sensor method at the lower temperature than light-off is also studied at a model gas bench with the converters. It is fecund that there is a certain point in temperature lower than light-off where difference due to aging level becomes maximum, thus a proper dynamic method to effectively monitor catalytic converters could be implemented fur the range lower than light-off temperatures. With this result, the aging level of converters is examined at an engine bench.

  • The slopes of open-pit mine are typically designed without considering the reinforcement and support method due to the economical efficiency. However, the long-term stability of final pit slope is needed in some case, therefore the appropriate measures that can improve the stability are required. In this study, the field survey and laboratory test were carried out in S limestone mine. The stability assessment of final pit slope was performed through the stereographic projection method, SMR, and numerical analysis. And countermeasures for stabilization were proposed. The results of analysis show that full scale of slope failure is not expected but the failures of bench slope scale are likely to occur. In oder to increase the stability of bench slope, we suggested the remedial methods as follows: excavating the final pit slope by pre-splitting blasting, placing the wide berm in the intermediate bench slope and installing the horizontal drainage hole in the place of local ground water runoff.

  • A process, which converts carbon dioxide contained in the flue gas of coal-fired power plants to sodium bicarbonate, was studied experimentally and numerically. In this process, the carbon dioxide reacts with sodium hydroxide which is produced through saline water electrolysis. A bench scale reactor system was prepared for experiments of this process and numerical process modeling was performed for the bench scale reactor system. Comparing the process modeling results with the experimental data, responsibility of the process modeling was confirmed. Using this model, commercial scale process was simulated. Mass and energy balance of this process were calculated. Temperature profile in the reactor and carbon dioxide removal rate were obtained.

  • Satellite structure should be designed to accommodate and support safely the payload and equipments necessary for its own missions and to secure satellite and payloads from severe launch environments. The launch environments imposed on satellites are quasi-static accelerations, aerodynamic loads, acoustic loads and shock loads. Especially when optical payload is accommodated, satellite structure usually adopts the optical bench consisting of composite material not only to support and secure but also to guarantee good pointing stability against extreme thermal environments. This paper deals with optical bench and support structure which shall be designed to minimize the loads transferred to optical payloads from satellite.

  • KARI precision attitude determination system has been developed for high accurate geo-coding of KOMPSAT-2 image. Sensor data from two star trackers and a IRU are used as measurement and dynamic data. Sensor data from star tracker are composed of QUEST and unit vector filter. Filter algorithms consists of extended Kalman filter, unscented Kalman filter, and least square batch filter. The type of sensor data and filter algorithm can be chosen by user options. Estimated parameters are Euler angle from 12000 frame to optical bench frame, gyro drift rate bias, gyro scale factor, misalignment angle of star tracker coordinate frame with respect to optical bench frame, and misalignment angle of gyro coordinate frame with respect to optical bench frame. In particular, ground control point data can be applied for estimating misalignment angle of star tracker coordinate frame. Through the simulation, KPADS is able to satisfy the KOMPSAT-2 mission requirement in which geo-location accuracy of image is 80 m (CE90) without ground control point.

  • This study is carried out to investigate the effect of any periods in the freezer and the product of value, moisture content, baking loss, specific volume loaf in manufncturing process thereof. The moisture content of the croissant slightly decreased as the periods passed in the freezer. And as passed periods frozen croissant dough dried naturally by the freezer fan. 1. As frozen periods passed croissant dough decreased moisture content and loaf volume. The volume is relation to the molsture content and croissant dough' gluten. Yeast is active but croissant dough is dried so pastry margarine's moisture vaporized little by little. 2. 1 day frozen bench time provided maximum specific loaf volume while croissant shape was unsettled, moisture content was highest. At the same dough croissant hardness had very sofi crust. 3. 1week and 2weets frozen dough had specific loaf volume and hardness with proper crust color. As the proper bench time provided best shape of croissant, color. 4. 4weeks and 8weeks frozen dough had over-al] value of croissant accelerating older product. As the same result, over Sweets frozen periods product were not available for sale and serving to customers. 5. By the sensory evaluation tests, over-all croissant as 1 week, 2weeks were significantly higher quality those than 6. 1day, 4weeks and 8weeks. Textural properties of croissant over 4weeks frozen periods so hard for every panel. According to the study, not croissant dough but also any other frozen dough(ex.Danish, brioche etc.)have to need proper bench time and 1week or 2weeks circulation making method have to given encouragement to practical pastry industry. Add to this study using only for frozen dough yeast instead of using fresh and instant

  • The swirl ratio in a SI engine is investigated in a steady flow bench according to the measurement methods: an impulse swirl meter and particle image velocimetry (PIV). When measuring the swirl ratio using the PIV, the torque is evaluated based on the cylinder center and swirl center, respectively. The position of the measurement plane is considered. As a result, in the upstream, the swirl ratio measured by the impulse swirl meter is estimated to be larger than that from the PIV measurements due to the unstable vortex motions. Regarding the PIV measurements, the swirl ratio based on the cylinder center has been found to be lower than that based on the swirl center. On the other hand, the difference in swirl ratio has decreased smaller as the measurement plane moved downstream due to the stabilization of the vortex motion.

  • The process of liquefied natural gas is less then $-160^{\circ}C$ to natural gas by cooling at atmospheric pressure. When control strategy was made, one of the most significant is analysis of process. It is important to understand the control variable change according to manipulated variable change. In this study, we experiment natural gas liquefied process using C3MR(Propane Pre-cooled Mixed Refrigerant) process by BSU(Bench Scale Unit). We analyzed the change of refrigerant temperature and natural gas temperature according to the change of refrigerant flow rate so as to search an influence flow rate according to adjust each manipulated variables. One of the manipulated variable affected a number of control variables, but were able to confirm a control variable with a large response.

  • We did bench blasting upon the natural rock which it's uniaxial compressive strength was about $1,420~1,476kgf/\textrm{cm}^2$. This is the results we inferred after measuring, analyzing the ground vibration velocity of the front and back direction from the free face of the bench blasting. We have to induce the square and cube root scaled equation and the general equation to guarantee confidence upon the data when analyzing the measurement data of the test blasting. The variable distance is in reverse proportion to the permitted ground vibration velocity. The shorter is the exploding point to a protection structure, the bigger is the reflection that the direction of the free face experts the ground vibration velocity, The ground vibration velocity front of the free face tends become reduced about 38~46% compare with back of the free face in the range that the permitted ground vibration velocity is 2.0~5.0mm/sec. In case of 2.0mm/sec, when a protection structure is within about 95m, the max. allowable charge weight per delay on positing front of the free face can be more used about 2.61 times than that on positing back of the free face, in case of 3.0mm/sec within about 78m more about 2.38 times, in case of 5.0mm/sec within 60m more about 2.10 times. In case of 2.0~5.0mm/sec when a protection structure is within about 200m front from the free face, the max. allowable charge weight per delay can become about 1.52 times than the case on back to the free face.

  • In this study, we analyzed the effect of storage conditions on the survival of fungi in red pepper powder. Red pepper powder was inoculated with a total of six fungal species, namely Aspergillus terreus, Aspergillus flavus, Rhizopus microsporus, Aspergillus fumigatus, Aspergillus niger, and Aspergillus ochraceus at a final cell count of 4-6 log CFU/g. After inoculating the sterilized red pepper powder with fungi, we dried the powder on a clean bench and packaged it in zipper bags. Following drying, the water activity was 0.502±0.001. Subsequently, the red pepper powder inoculated with fungi was stored at -20℃, 5℃, 15℃, and 25℃. All six species of fungi perished the quickest at 25℃ and survived for the longest (168 days) at -20℃. In summary, this study showed that fungi survive for an extended period in red pepper powder at -20℃ and 5℃ compared to 15℃ and 25℃. Therefore, to prevent fungal contamination, red pepper powder should have a water activity below 0.6 and be stored in a zipper bag at room temperature.
