  • Polypyrrole (PPy), Poly(N-methyl Pyrrole) (PMPy) and Poly(N-phenyl Pyrrole) (PPhPy) films in acetonitrile (Af and propylene carbonate (PC) have been compared focusing on their different ion and solvent transport behaviors. During the redox reaction of PPy films, cation, anion, and solvent take part in mass transport. Whereas during the redox reaction of PMPy and PPhPy films, anion and solvent transport are dominant but cation transport is negligible. In addition, solvent transport occurs in the same direction with cation transport for PPy films. On the other hand, solvent transport occurs in the opposite direction to anion transport for PMPy films, and it changes its amount and direction with the kind of the dopant anion and the solvent used at electropolymerization for PPhPy films.

  • In order to improve the mechanical properties of unsaturated polyester (UPE) resins, the UPE resins with different glycol molar ratios were prepared. The effects of molar ratios of the UPE resins on the curing behaviors and mechanical properties were investigated. The microgel reaction mechanism was employed to characterize the system. It was found that the final conversion increased with increasing NPG molar ratios, and the conversion at the peak of differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) thermogram appeared to decrease with increasing NPG molar ratios. The flexural strength, tensile modulus, water resistance, and infiltration increased with increasing NPG content, but the tensile strength, tensile elongation, and flexural modulus decreased. Among the UPE resins prepared from the glycols with the molar ratios (PG/NPG) of 0.5/0.5, 0.25/0.75, those of laminated composites plates showed better mechanical properties.

  • In this paper, we modeled a virtual life (VL) that reacts to the user s action according to its own behavioral characteristics and grows itself. We established some conditions with which such a VL is designed. Genetic Algorithm is used for the growth process that changes the VL s properties. In this process, the parameter values of the VL s properties are encoded as one chromosome, and the GA operations change this chromosome. The VL s reaction to the user s action is determined by these properties as well as the general expectation of each reaction. These properties are evaluated through 5 fitness measures so as to deal with multi-objective criteria. Here, we present the simulation of the growth Process, and show some experimental results.

  • The structural investigations on the adducts, formed from dichloroketene with cyclopentadiene, methyl and ethylcyclopentadiene, have been carried out by means of infrared and nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy and also by their chemical behaviors. It was confirmed by this study that the adducts were formed by 1, 2-cycloaddition reaction and had the fundamental structure of bicyclo [3. 2. 0]-7,7-dichloro-2-heptene-6-one. These results were well agreed with the hypothesis that a diradical intermediate was formed as the first step in 1, 2-cycloaddition. The reaction mechanism for the process in which tropolones were formed from these adducts was also discussed.

  • The latent properties and cure kinetics of an acid anhydride-cured epoxy resin have been investigated by a near-infrared (NIR) reflection spectroscopy. The assignments of the latent properties and cure behaviors were performed by the measurements of the NIR reflectance for epoxide and hydroxyl groups at different temperatures. A comprehensive analysis of the origin, location, and shifts during reaction of all major NIR absorption peaks in the spectral range from 4000 to 7100 $cm^{-1}$ / was provided. The extent of reaction was determined from NIR absorption band at the 4530 $cm^{-1}$ / depending on epoxide concentration and cure temperature.

  • Curing behaviors of glass/epoxy prepreg for printed circuit boards (PCB) were studied by using dielectrometer and differential scanning calorimeter. This prepreg was showed the lowest ionic viscosity at about 115$^{\circ}C$, and then the ionic viscosity was gradully increased up to 15$0^{\circ}C$. This indicated that the curing reaction of this prepreg started at 115$^{\circ}C$ and the molecular weight was increased by the accelerated thermal cross-linking reaction. The loss factor and tan $\delta$ values were also measured and discussed. The dielectric behaviors of this prepreg system were also measured according to the cure cycle for PCB. This material was found to be thermally stable up to about 30$0^{\circ}C$ and then was showed an abrupt decomposition beyond this temperature.

  • We synthesized aliphatic epoxy acrylate monomer by the reaction of glycerol diglycidyl ether and acrylic acid. The reaction was monitored by FTIR, Raman spectroscopy and $^1H$ NMR. Electron-beam (E-beam) curing behaviors of the synthesized monomer were studied by spectroscopic analysis, glass transition temperature, and tensile properties. We found that curing reaction was complete in a low dosage of ca. 30 kGy. The viscosity of monomer was a low enough for coating without using diluents and the cured sample was highly transparent, indicating that the monomer can be used for an E-beam curable coating material on transparent optical films.

  • Off-gases emitted from the anode of a molten carbonate fuel cell (MCFC) at high temperatures for power generation are used as fuel in catalytic combustion. The heat generated in the catalytic combustor is utilized as the heat for the endothermic reaction required for steam reforming. Among the various operational conditions of the integrated reactor, we varied the inlet gas compositions of the catalytic combustor according to fuel utilization in the MCFC and the ratio of steam to carbon in the reformer. Subsequently, the thermal behaviors and reaction characteristics of the integrated reactor were investigated experimentally. The fundamental data from this experimental study will be useful for the design and fabrication of a more practical integrated reactor in the future.

  • Metallic fuel has been considered for sodium-cooled fast reactors because it can maximize the uranium resources. It generates rare earth elements as fission products, where it is reported by aggravating the fuel-cladding chemical interaction at the operating temperature. Rare earth elements form a multicomponent alloy (Ce-Nd-Pr-La-Sm-etc.) during reactor operation, where it shows a higher reaction thickness than a single element. Experiments have been carried out by simplifying multicomponent alloys for mono or binary systems because complex alloys have difficulty in the analysis. In previous experiments, xCe-yNd was fabricated with two elements, Ce and Nd, which have a major effect on the fuel-cladding chemical interaction, and the thickness of the reaction layer reached maximum when the rare earth elements ratio was 1:1. The objective of this study is to evaluate the effect and relationship of rare earth elements on such synergistic behavior. Single and binary rare earth model alloys were prepared by selecting five rare earth elements (Ce, Nd, Pr, La, and Sm). In the single system, Nd and Pr behaviors were close to diffusion, and Ce showed a eutectic reaction. In the binary system, Ce and Sm further increased the reaction layer, and La showed a non-synergy effect.
