Chronic tic disorder or Tourette syndrome is known to be a chronic neuro-behavioral disease for which cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) strategies have recently been introduced. Here, we report the effectiveness of CBT in a case of childhood chronic tic disorder, which is very common in clinical settings. The DSM-IV clinical diagnosis was applied by a child psychiatrist. The Yale Global Tic Severity Scale, Kovac's children's depression inventory, Spielberger State-Trait Anxiety Inventory, Abbreviated Conners' Rating Scales, and the Dupaul ADHD Rating Scales were used. This case involved a pharmacological treatment-refractory patient over the previous year. Thus, psychiatric consultation was undertaken. Subsequently, we administered five sessions of CBT for four weeks, consisting of symptom evaluation and planning, habit reversal training, and ventilation training. Following four weeks of CBT administration, there were improvements in the scores of the Yale Global Tic Severity Scale and the Clinical Global Improvement scale. Our observations indicate that CBT may be effective in the treatment of childhood tic disorder.
This Study aims to examine the differences in stress arising from clinical fieldwork of some of the students of occupational therapy department in accordance with the DISC behavioral style and the differences in the coping strategy. It is to provide basic data for the presentation of means of coping with stress that can occur at the time of clinical fieldwork in accordance with the behavioral styles of the students. As the results of the study, it was found that there are differences in the detailed items of clinical fieldwork stress in accordance with the DISC behavioral styles and differences in the strategy for copying with stress in accordance with the DISC behavioral styles. Therefore, there is a need to develop manual for fieldwork instructions and consultations in order for the students of occupational therapy department to cope with the clinical fieldwork stress at the time of clinical fieldwork by considering the behavioral styles of the students through additional researches in the future on the basis of aforementioned results of the study.
Many terminally ill cancer patients grapple with a range of physical, psychological, and social challenges. Therefore, it is critical to offer effective psychological interventions to assist them in managing these issues and enhancing their quality of life. This brief communication provides a concise overview of acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), along with empirical evidence of its application for patients, caregivers, and healthcare professionals in hospice and palliative care settings and an overview of future directions of ACT interventions in South Korea. ACT, a third-wave type of cognitive behavioral therapy, is a model of psychological flexibility that promotes personal growth and empowerment across all life areas. Currently, there is substantial evidence from overseas supporting the effectiveness of ACT on health-related outcomes among patients with various diseases, caregivers, and healthcare professionals. The necessity and significance of conducting ACT-based empirical research in hospice and palliative care settings in South Korea are discussed.
Objectives : The purpose of this pilot study was to investigate the potential clinical benefits a single group session of cognitive behavioral therapy in the treatment of patients with panic disorder. Methods : The study participants were 18 patients (14 males, 4 females; mean age=38.9 years), all of whom were assessed as meeting the DSM-IV-TR criteria for panic disorder. All participants attended one two-hour session of structured group cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT). Clinical symptoms was assessed before and eight weeks after the single therapy session using the Panic Disorder Severity Scale (PDSS). Results : Eight weeks after a single session of group CBT significant improvements were found in panic attack frequency, distress during panic attacks, severity of anticipatory anxiety, agoraphobic fear/avoidance, panic-related sensation fear/avoidance, impairment in work functioning, impairment in social functioning. Conclusions : One session of group CBT appears to be an effective treatment of panic disorder by reducing the severity of all symptoms assessed on the PDSS. An attempt should be made to replicate the findings of this pilot study in a larger and controlled, comparative clinical trial.
Panic disorder is a frequent anxiety disorder. Recently many studies raised that the course of panic disorder is the interaction of biological and psychological factor. So we used Oriental Medicine Treatment to control biological factor and Cognitive - Behavioral Therapy to control psychological factor of panic disorder, obtained good results. Practicing Cognitive - Behavioral Therapy, we were able to destroy catastrophic misunderstanding. And then in this case, patient is diagnosed Deficiency of Kidney(腎虛) with Fire from stagnation of Liver(肝鬱化火). Objectives: The purpose of this study was to report the clinical effectiveness of the complex Korean medicine therapy on a patient with BPSD (Behavioral and Psychological Symptoms of Dementia) due to suspected Alzheimer's disease. Methods: We experienced an age 73 female who complained of a depressive mood, insomnia, and accompanying symptoms such as abnormal behavior. During treatment, the patient received acupuncture and herbal medicine. The clinical effects were evaluated through KGDS (Korean Form of Geriatric Depression Scale) and subjective statements of the patient. Results: After the complex Korean medicine therapy, the treatments ameliorated overall symptoms that the patient complained about. The patient was more positive and slept better after the treatment. No specificities or adverse effects were reported during treatment. Conclusions: This study suggests the possibility of treating patients with BPSD with complex Korean medicine therapy.
Background: Experience of lung cancer includes negative impacts on both physical and psychological health. Pain is one of the negative experiences of lung cancer. Cognitive behavioral therapy techniques are often recommended as treatments for lung cancer pain. The objective of this review was to synthesize the evidence on the effectiveness of cognitive behavioral therapy techniques in treating lung cancer pain. This review considered studies that included lung cancer patients who were required to 1) be at least 18 years old; 2) speak and read English or Thai; 3) have a life expectancy of at least two months; 4) experience daily cancer pain requiring an opioid medication; 5) have a positive response to opioid medication; 6) have "average or usual" pain between 4 and 7 on a scale of 0-10 for the day before the clinic visit or for a typical day; and 7) able to participate in a pain evaluation and treatment program. This review considered studies to examine interventions for use in treatment of pain in lung cancer patients, including: biofeedback, cognitive/attentional distraction, imagery, hypnosis, and meditation. Any randomized controlled trials (RCTs) that examined cognitive behavioral therapy techniques for pain specifically in lung cancer patients were included. In the absence of RCTs, quasi-experimental designs were reviewed for possible conclusion in a narrative summary. Outcome measures were pain intensity before and after cognitive behavioural therapy techniques. The search strategy aimed to find both published and unpublished literature. A three-step search was utilised by using identified keywords and text term. An initial limited search of MEDLINE and CINAHL was undertaken followed by analysis of the text words contained in the title and abstract, and of the index terms used to describe the article. A second search using all the identified keywords and index terms was then undertaken across all included databases. Thirdly, the reference list of all identified reports and articles were searched for additional studies. Searches were conducted during January 1991- March 2014 limited to English and Thai languages with no date restriction. Materials and Methods: All studies that met the inclusion criteria were assessed for methodological quality by three reviewers using a standardized critical appraisal tool from the Joanna Briggs Institute (JBI). Three reviewers extracted data independently, using a standardized data extraction tool from the Joanna Briggs Institute (JBI). Ideally for quantitative data meta-analysis was to be conducted where all results were subject to double data entry. Odds ratios (for categorical data) and weighted mean differences (for continuous data) and their 95% confidence intervals were to be calculated for analysis and heterogeneity was to be assessed using the standard Chi-square. Where statistical pooling was not possible the finding were be presented in narrative form. Results: There were no studies located that met the inclusion requirements of this review. There were also no text and opinion pieces that were specific to cognitive behavioral therapy techniques pain and lung cancer patients. Conclusions: There is currently no evidence available to determine the effectiveness of cognitive behavioural therapy techniques for pain in lung cancer patients.
The purpose of this study was to understand educational changes and effects of cognitive behavioral art therapy using the smart device. The participant of the study was a 4th grade of male elementary school student who had aggressiveness and impulsiveness with emotional instability. The study was conducted one to two times a week for six months with a total of 30 educational sessions. Among 80 minutes per session, 60 minutes of art therapy and 20 minutes of cognitive behavioral therapy were applied, and during the sessions, cognitive action art therapy (drawing and shaping activities), cognitive restructuring, behavioral modification, systemic dullness, social skills training, empathy and landscaping training were applied. For the numeral assessment, Traffic Anxiety Inventory for Children (TAIC), Beck Anxiety Inventory (BAI) and emotional instability measures were used. Research showed that cognitive behavioral art therapy using smart devices had the effect of positive emotional change in children with emotional anxiety, and based on this, future development directions including systematic instructional design, scientific analysis and feedback technologies were discussed.

Prader-Willi syndrome (PWS) is a multisystemic complex disorder characterized by hyperphagia and impaired satiety which lead to severe and early obesity. In infancy, hypotonia and poor suck are main problems, and a child goes through Failure-to-thrive. During childhood, clinical manifestations change to food seeking as well as excessive weight gain, short stature, developmental delay, cognitive disability and behavioral problems. Also, growth hormone insufficiency is frequent. Most patients receive the recombinant growth hormone (rGH) therapy that provides improvement in growth, body composition, and physical attributes. The clinical care guideline for rGH therapy in PWS had been noticed in 2013. The rGH therapy helps in body fat, lean body mass, height SDS and head circumference. Also, the rGH therapy helps motor function, psychomotor development and cognition and behavioral issues. In Samsung medical center, there are clinical care guidelines for rGH therapy in PWS and an useful application for the patients. 'Living with PWS', the name of an moblie application for PWS patients, was introduced in the lecture. The application revised to version 2. It was made more convenient to users than in version 1. It helps caregivers to schedule the rGH therapy and to monitor height and weight.
