The dynamic behavior of spatial structures is different depending on the aspect ration of arch structure, as the rise-span ratio or open-angle, and these spatial structures show differently the character of seismic response in accordance with stiffness and connection of the lower support structures that are directly influenced by earthquake. Therefore, in this paper, dynamic analysis is conducted for seismic response of single layer arch structures by the influence of column's stiffness and connection, to reflect the different vertical and horizontal vibration mode of single layer arch structures. The vertical response of single layer arch structures is more influence by lower columns and the influence of column's connection rotational stiffness is not large, except to the hinged connections.
The purpose of this paper was to examine the relationship between Surrealism and Schiaparelli's fashion design in the 1930s. Surrealism, derived from Dadaism, was based on Freud's analysis of dream imagery and human sexual behavior. Its style was characterized by the partial figure and the dislocation of body part, and the placement of the figure and its part in unanticipated settings. The objective of Surrealism was to exploit the unconsciousness and the interpretation of the body became an abiding. Surrealists were interested in the nature of clothing and in the specific characteristic of fashion, so, they moved into the world of fashion; fashion advertising window display and fashion photograph. The fantasy of Surrealism stimulated Schiaparelli to use wit and shock tactics, bold and unusual combination of colors, striking embroideries with crazy themes like circus and astrology. The character of her clothes was boldness and chic. She created humorous trompe-l'oel sweater, leg of mutton sleeve, tweed evening suit, shocking pink, peculiar accessories such as hats and buttons. She collaborated with many artists like Dali, Cocteau and Berard, and drew on all the latest artistic trends into the fashion arena from Cubism and African Art to Surrealism. Her Surrelist dress provided a play of illusions and affected today;s avant-grade style.
This paper presents a series of experimental and numerical investigations on a vertical isolation system with quasi-zero stiffness (QZS) property. The isolation system comprises a linear helical spring and disk spring. The disk spring is designed to provide variable stiffness to the system. Orthogonal static tests with different design parameters are conducted to verify the mathematical and mechanical models of the isolation system. The deviations between theoretical and test results influenced by the design parameters are summarized. Then, the dynamic tests for the systems with different under-load degrees are performed, including the fast sweeping tests, harmonic excitation tests, and half-sine impact tests. The displacement transmissibility, vibration reduction rate, and free vibration response are calculated. Based on the test results, the variation of the transmission rule is evaluated and the damping magnitudes and types are identified. In addition, the relevant numerical time history responses are calculated considering the nonlinear behavior of the system. The results indicate that the QZS isolation system has a satisfactory isolation effect, while a higher damping level can potentially promote the isolation performance in the low-frequency range. It is also proved that the numerical calculation method accurately predicts the transmission character of the isolation system.

The space harmonics generated by a plane-wave incident upon a multi-layered dielectric grating can undergo strong resonance scattering variations known as GMR(guided-mode resonance). To clarify these effects, we examine the field propagation and dispersion curve inside the grating region by using a rigorous equivalent transmission-line theory(RETT). The results show that, at the peak of a scattering resonance, the reflected mode is almost identical to a leaky wave that can be supported by the grating structure. Thus, we confirm and generalize previous research that has occurred GMR effect associated with the free-resonant character of leaky waves at multi-layered dielectric gratings. Quantitative simulation results illustrating the behavior of typical gratings are given, and the special case of normal incidence is discussed for TM mode.
Human immunodeficiency virus type 1 (HIV-1) integrase plays a critical role in the life cycle of the HIV virus. An ability to accurately map its electrostatic potential, and then use this information to predict the manner in which DNA will bind to the active site of the catalytic domain could provide a foundation for inhibitory design. Attempts to discern the crystal structure of HIV-1 integrase have proven problematic, especially in the region of enzymatic activity, that being those residues involved in the catalysis of the integration of viral DNA into the host cell. However, there is a structural correlation in to the region of interest with avian sarcoma virus (ASV), so a homology model utilizing this similarity was constructed to approximate the behavior/structure of the undetermined portions of the HIV-1 integrase crystal. After this model was constructed and its energy minimized, electrostatic calculations were carried out on the substance, so that an electrostatic potential map was constructed. Using this information, it was determined that DNA binding was oriented so as to exploit the regions of positive potential nearby the active site, as well as the positive potential of the magnesium cofactors.
The purposes of this study were to segment the men in twenties and thirties according to clothing benefits sought, and to develop a profile of each segment concerning shopping orientation, self·image, and importance of store attributes. The questionnaire was administered to men in twenties and thirties living in Seoul and data were analyzed by frequency, percentage, factor analysis, cluster analysis, and MANOVA(multivarite analysis of variance). By cluster analysis of clothing benefits sought, three groups were identified and labeled as: (1) the group of focusing the influence of other people and comfort clothing(31.7%): (2) the group of pursuing the fashion trend (48.1%); the group of pursuing the individuality(20.1%). Three groups were then compared through MANOVA on shopping orientation, importance of store attributes, and self-image. Significant differences were found among three groups on three variables. In general, the group of focusing the influence of other people and comfort clothing tended to be ostentatious and tended to wear comfortable clothing. The group of pursuing the fashion trend didn't show specific shopping orientation and just liked to follow the current fashion trend. The group of pursuing the individuality enjoyed the shopping and liked to buy the clothing which enhances the personal character.
Nowadays a personalization algorithm is gaining huge attention. It gives users selective information which is helpful and interesting in a deluge of information based on their past behavior on the internet. However there is also a fatal side effect that the user can only get restricted information on restricted topics selected by the algorithm. Basically, the personalization algorithm makes users have a narrower perspective and even stronger bias because users have less chances to get views of opponent. Eli Pariser called this problem the 'filter bubble' in his book. It is important to understand exactly what a filter bubble is to solve the problem. Therefore, this paper shows how much Google's personalized search algorithm influences search result through an experiment with deep neural networks acting like users. At the beginning of the experiment, two Google accounts are newly created, not to be influenced by the Google's personalized search algorithm. Then the two pure accounts get politically biased by two methods. We periodically calculate the numerical score depending on the character of links and it shows how biased the account is. In conclusion, this paper shows the formation process of filter bubble by a personalization algorithm through the experiment.
An analysis of the electronic structure and bonding in the ternary silicide YNiSi₃is made, using extended Huckel tight-binding calculations. The YNiSi₃structure consists of Ni-capped Si₂dimer layers and Si zigzag chains. Significant bonding interactions are present between the silicon atoms in the structure. The oxidation state formalism of $(Y^{3+})(Ni^0)(Si^3)^{3-}$ for YNiSi₃constitutes a good starting point to describe its electronic structure. Si atoms receive electrons from the most electropositive Y in YNiSi₃, and Ni 3d and Si 3p states dominate below the Fermi level. There is an interesting electron balance between the two Si and Ni sublattices. Since the ${\pi}^*$ orbitals in the Si chain and the Ni d and s block levels are almost completely occupied, the charge balance for YNiSi₃can be rewritten as $(Y^{3+})(Ni^{2-})(Si^{2-})(Si-Si)^+$, making the Si₂layers oxidized. These results suggest that the Si zigzag chain contains single bonds and the Si₂double layer possesses single bonds within a dimer with a partial double bond character. Strong Si-Si and Ni-Si bonding interactions are important for giving stability to the structure, while essentially no metal-metal bonding exists at all. The 2D metallic behavior of this compound is due to the Si-Si interaction leading to dispersion of the several Si₂π bands crossing the Fermi level in the plane perpendicular to the crystallographic b axis.
This paper presents characteristics of a virtual human's navigation using a limited perception-based mapping. Previous approaches to virtual human navigation have used an omniscient perception requiring full layout of a virtual environment in advance. However, these approaches have a limitation on being a fundamental solution for a human-likeness of a virtual human, because behaviors of humans are basically based on their limited perception instead of omniscient perception. In this paper, we integrated Hill's mapping algorithm with a virtual human to experiment virtual human's navigation with the limited perception. This approach does not require full layout of the virtual environment, 360-degree's field of view, and vision through walls. In addition to static objects such as buildings, we consider enemy emergence that can affect an virtual human's navigation. The enemy emergence is used as the variable on the experiment of this present research. As the number of enemies varies, the changes in arrival rate and time taken to reach the goal position were observed. The virtual human navigates by two conditions. One is to take the shortest path to the goal position, and the other is to avoid enemies when the virtual human encounters them. The acquired result indicates that the virtual human's navigation corresponds to a human cognitive process, and thus this research can be a framework for human-likeness of virtual humans.
