  • The purposes of this study are to investigate the parents' communication behavior with their teen-aged child and the effects of the demographic and socio variables on it concerning with the parent education. A sample of 599 teen-aged children was obtained from the elementary, middle and high schools in the city of Seoul. Mean, t-test and F-test were used for data analysis. The major findings can be summurized as follows : The scores of parents' communication behavior are neither high nor low, namely, are not especially desirable. And there are differences in communication behavior by mother's age and schooling, differences in mother's communication behavior by father's age, schooling and occupation, differences in mother's communication behavior by child' sex and age. According to the above findings, it is necessary for all parents with teen-aged children to have the parental communication education, particularly for father with the older child.

  • This study investigated the behavior problems of children, both institutionalized and home-reared, depending on their sex, age, and entry to institution. The subjects included 621 children (274 institutionalized, 347 home-reared; 298 boys and 323 girls; 209 preschoolers, 223 first to third graders, 189 fourth to sixth). The data collected were analyzed with t-test, 3-way ANOVA, Scheffe test, and Pearson's correlation. Children's emotionality had two sides: Positive (happiness) and negative (sadness, anger, and fear). Measures of behavior problems included internalization (anxiety, immaturity, withdrawal, physical symptom) and externalization (hyperactivity, aggression). The results of this study indicated that the institutionalized were higher in negative emotionality than their counterparts, whereas the home-reared higher in positive emotionality. The institutionalized children also had higher externalizing problems than the home-reared. Furthermore, children's negative emotionality was positively related to their internalizing and externalizing behavior problems, while their positive emotionality was negatively related to the internalizing behavior problems.

For this purpose, questionaire was given to 600 individuals who have resided in Seoul as the housewife consumer and possessed the experience to use the purchased refrigerators within the period of 5 years. 437 data were analyzed by the statistical methods like frequency, percentage, ANOVA, Duncan's Multiple Range Test, X2-test, Pearson's correlation and multiple regression analysis. The results of this study were described as follows; 1) Complaining behavior have shown significant differences according to housewife's age, degree of perceived housewife's consumer education, husband's job and housewife's job. 2) The type of attribution of dissatisfaction have shown significant differences according to husband's job, housewife's job and family income. 3) There was significant difference in the complaining behavior according to the type of causal attribution and responsibility attribution. 4) The complaining behavior was influenced by causal attribution of dissatisfaction, responsibility attribution of dissatisfaction, family income, degree of perceived housewife's consumer education, husband's job and housewife's age. And the relative contribution of each variable explaining the complaining behavior was decreased according to the order of variables that were described.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to test the effect of lavender fragrance on speech anxiety and public speech behavior of nursing students. Method: The subjects were 89 students in the nursing department of "K" college. We administered vaporizers containing lavender to the experimental group to measure the degree of speech anxiety and public speech behavior at pre-treatment and post-treatment. Results: The difference of variance in speech anxiety between the experimental and control groups was not significant (p=.477). However, the speech anxiety of the experimental group from pretest to post-test was significantly increased (p=.061). In addition, public speech behavior in the experimental group showed greater improvement than that in the control group (p=.000). Conclusion: This study has provided preliminary evidence that lavender fragrance may improve public speech behavior.

  • This paper presents a series of path models that were developed to test whether financial risk tolerance mediates the association between the following four variables and investing behavior: (a) male and married, (b) female and married, (c) male and single, or (d) female and single. Data for this study were obtained from a proprietary consumer survey of risk-tolerance attitudes. Four path models were developed to test relationships among the variables in 2008, 2009, 2010, and 2011. These years were chosen to represent the depth and recovery periods in the Great Recession. The total number of respondents was 29,641. Findings showed that financial risk tolerance was positively associated with risky investing behavior (i.e., equity ownership) in each of the four periods. The associations among the gender-marital status variables and investing behavior were mixed; however, findings did indicate that risk tolerance mediates these relationships by sometimes amplifying and occasionally attenuating risky behavior. Based on the findings, implications and limitation are presented.

  • This study evaluated the effectiveness of affected-based program in changing the nutrition attitudes and behavior of a group of low-income housewives in a urban area near industrial complex. using pre- post- and one month retention test measures of nutrition attitudes knowledge and nutrition behavior. The sample consisted of treatment group(n=58) and control group(n=68, 66 or 61) The treatment group participated in a four-week nutrition course of eight hours offered by faculty members of department of Food and Nutition in Han Nam University. At the conclusion of the program the respondents had improved nutrition attitudes increa-sed nutrition knowledge and improved dietary diversity and dietary quality scores. Nutrition attitude scores rose significnatly from the pretest to post-test for the treatment group only However this improvement was not maintained one month after education. Nutrition know-ledge score of the treatment group increased significnatly from the pretest to posttest and pretest to retention test. Nutrition behavior was measured by food practice dietary diversity and dietary quality scores, The mean food practice score dietary diversity and dietary quality scores were signifi-cantly increased from pretest to posttest for the treatment group. Only dietary diversity scores was maintained from posttest for the retention test for the treatment group. There was a good correlation between nutrition knowlege and attitude scores at the pretest. However no significant corrlation was found between nutrition knowledge and attitude scores at the posttest. At the pretest nutrition knowledge or attitude and behavior were not correlated bu there were significant correations between nutrition knowledge or attitude and behavior at the posttest. It was concluded that a four-week nutrition education program of eight hours duration for the target people can lead to ac hange in dietary behaviors as well as nutrition knowledge and attitude.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of a cardiac rehabilitation program for patients with myocardial infarction. Method: The subjects were 45 myocardial infarction patients(22 for experimental group and 23 for the control group). Data were collected through questionnaire survey, blood test, and the treadmill test, between October 1, 1999 and December 31, 2000. As for data analyses, paired and unpaired t-test and $\chi^2$ test were adopted using the SAS program. Result: 1. The post-test revealed that increase in compliance score of health behavior was significantly higher in the experimental group than in the control group. 2. The increase in HDL cholesterol was significantly higher in the experimental group than in the control group, in the post-test. 3. The experimental group showed significantly higher duration of exercise time and maximal METs than the control group after the program. Conclusion: The above findings indicate that a cardiac rehabilitation program was effective in increasing compliance of health behaviors, serum HDL cholesterol level, duration of exercise time, and maximal METs in patients with myocardial infarction. Accordingly, we can adopt the individualized cardiac rehabilitation programs as a nursing intervention.

  • The test method on the Type II high-pressure hydrogen storage tanks made of the metal wire hoop winding is a complex and high risk. Also closeup on the tank being test is difficult. In this study, we studied a mechanical test method for a high-pressure hydrogen tanks. This method must be simple, risk-free and possible to observe the change in microscopic behavior of a metal wire on a liner. As the results, it was possible to observe the microscopic behavior on the metal wire by the mechanical test method. Also, a simple and risk-free test was possible compared to the conventional test method for high pressure hydrogen tanks.
