Objectives : This study was to evaluate the effectiveness of Bee Venom acupuncture therapy on patients with cervical spondylosis. Methods: We investigated 29 cases of patients with cervical spondylosis. We divided patients into two groups: Bee venom Acupuncture was performed at one group, and the other group we did acupuncture therapy. To evaluate the effectiveness of treatment applied for two groups, we used visual analog scale(VAS) and neck disability index(NDI). We compared the VAS and NDI score of two groups statistically. Results : As a result of evaluation by using visual analog scale(VAS) and neck disability index(NDI), treatment score at final was significantly different from that at the baseline in each groups. Treatment at final, Bee venom acupuncture therapy group showed significant difference on visual analog scale(VAS) and neck disability index(NDI) compared with acupuncture therapy group. Conclusions : Bee Venom acupuncture therapy can be used with acupuncture therapy for highly effective in the patient with cervical spondylosis.

Objectives : The purpose of this systematic review was to overview and evaluate the current state of the usage of bee venom acupuncture. Methods : We collected 173 articles on bee venom acupuncture(BVA) clinical study from eight electronic databases from January 2002 to June 2013. Results : BVA was used in musculoskeletal diseases for 66 %, and the chosen acupoints were various. The ratio of the reports which had collected below 10 cases was 43 %. The concomitant treatment and evaluation tools showed diversity in each article. Conclusions : Bee venom clinical study shows the lack of unity and consistent regulation, and has low clinical cases. Future studies should correct these limits and promote more varied research to develop the therapy of bee venom acupuncture.

Objective : The aim of this study was to find out the therapeutic effect of the Korean Bee Venom theraphy in the treatment of patient with De Quervain's disease. Methods : As the effect of Bee Venom acupuncture about various articulation diseases observed, we tried to treat a case that was diagnosed De Quervain's disease by using Korean Bee Venom theraphy. Results : After Korean Bee Venom theraphy, 'VNRS' value decreased quite noticeably, and other symptoms have improved as well. Conclusions : Korean BeeVenom theraphy have shown fairly effective to De Quervain's disease. Furthermore, it shows considerable potential in its effectiveness to be utilized other fields of medicine practices.

Purpose: To investigate effect of Sweet Bee Venom on postpartum's De Quervain's Disease. Methods: We investigated 3 patients diagnosed as De Quervain's Disease. Sweet Bee Venom Herbal-acupuncture was used for treatment of De Quervain's Disease, once every two days, 5 times. Pain, satisfaction at treatment and function of wrist were measured with VNS, Baumgaertner's nine point scale and dynamometer. Results: Pain reduction, functional improvement, increased grip power were found out in cases treated with Sweet Bee Venom Herbal-acupuncture. In every cases, they represent high subjective satisfaction with treatment. Conclusion: Clinical results show that Sweet Bee Venom Herbal-acupuncture has a good analgesic effect in De Quervain's Disease.

Objectives : To verify pain relief effects and allergy inhibitory action for the osteoarthritis of the knee joint in Sweet Bee Venom in which allergy causing enzyme is removed. Methods : We randomly allocated 30 participants to treatment group Sweet Bee Venom and Bee Venom. Outcomes on pain reduction were measured by 100mm VAS(Visual Analog Scale). And we recorded into details allergic responses during Pharmacopuncture treatment. Results : Whole body condition and pain rate through VAS measurement were improved significantly in 2 weeks. We could get difference in pain score of two Pharmacopuncture groups significantly in 2 weeks. Sweet BV group($0.1{\beta}mg/m{\ell}$) showed superior reduction in pain compared to the BV group($0.1{\beta}mg/m{\ell}$) significantly. And other allergic responses such as edema, itchiness, pain were significantly lower in the Sweet BV group.

The authors reports in order to study the effect of Bee Venom therapy of progressive muscle atrophy. The authors investigated 1 patient who is treated at Woosuk University Oriental Medical Hospital. The patient diagnosed by MRI EMG Hematology Muscle biopsy as progressive muscle atrophy is administered by Bee Venom therapy for 4 months. Bee Venom therapy is operated by 2 times per a week(every 3 days, 0.1cc per one operation, 0.05cc per one acupuncture point). The authors checked changes of this patient's chief symptoms by comparing before and after Bee Venom therapy is operated at 30 times. After Bee Venom therapy, the patient increased motor power & ROM, decreased general cooling sense & swallowing disorder. As above, the authors conclude that better results can be obtained Oriental Medical Treatment with Bee Venom therapy in progressive muscle atrophy

Objective : The purpose of this study was to investigate the stability of bee venom according to the keeping method and period. Method : The author observed microbial contamination of bee venom in nutrient agar, broth, YPD agar and YPD media and antibacterial activity for S. aureus, E. coli manufactured 12, 6 and 3 months ago as the two type of room temperature and $4^{\circ}C$ cold storage. Results : 1. 1:3,000 and 1:4,000 diluted bee venom solution did not show microbial contamination both room temperature and cold storage within twelve months. 2. There was antibacterial activity of diluted bee venom for S. aureus in cold storage within twelve months and there was no antibacterial activity of diluted bee venom for S. aureus in twelve months, room temperature storage. 3. We could not observe the zone of inhibition around paper disc of all for E.coli. in 1:3,000, 1:30,000 and 1:3,000,000 diluted bee venom solution, respectively. According to results, we expect that diluted bee venom solution is stable both cold and room temperature storage within twelve months.

This study was to investigated the effects of the bee venom on inhibition of cell growth via upregulation of death receptor expression in the A549 human lung cancer cells. Bee venom(1-5 ${\mu}g$/ml) inhibited the growth of A549 lung cancer cells by the induction of apoptotic cell death in a dose dependent manner. Consistent with apoptotic cell death, expression of TNFR1, Fas, death receptors(DR) 3, 4 and 6 was increased in the cells. Expression of DR downstream pro-apoptotic proteins including caspase-3, -9 and Bax was concomitantly increased, but the expression of Bcl-2, NF-${\kappa}B$ were inhibited by treatment with bee venom in A549 cells. Moreover, deletion of DR3, DR4 by small interfering RNA significantly reversed bee venom-induced cell growth inhibitory effect, whereas Apo3L strengthened anti-proliferative effect of bee venom through enhancement of DR3 expression. These results suggest that bee venom should exert anti-tumor effect through induction of apoptotic cell death in lung cancer cells via enhancement of death receptor expression, and that bee venom could be a promising agent for preventing and treating lung cancer.

Objective : Psoriasis is a common skin disease and the difficulty of its medical management is well known. This study was designed to investigate the effect of bee venom aqua-acupuncture on psoriasis. Methods : Bee venom aqua-acupuncture was performed two times a week. The following points were selected: LI-11(曲池), LI-15, K-9(築賓) on both sides of body. For herbal medicine, YanHyulJiHwangTang-gami was given. We checked involvement in plaque, erythematous popules and invasiveness according to psoriasis area severity index(PASI). Results :After 9 weeks of treatment, the patient showed that itching symptoms was disappeared and score of PASI changed from 26.2 to 0. Conclusions : These results suggest that bee venom aqua-acupuncture and herbal medicine has good effect on psoriasis. But further studies are required to concretely prove the effectiveness of bee venom aqua-acupuncture for treating psoriasis.

Objectives : This study was undertaken to determine the cytotoxic effects of crude bee venom which is widely used for aqua-acupuncture in oriental medical clinic. Methods : We compared the effects of crude bee venom, apamin, melittin and MCD peptide on cellviability by MTT asssay. Results : The obtained results are summarized as follows: 1. Bee venom, apamin, melittin and MCD peptide showed concentration--dependent cytotoxic effect in some human cell lines(human glioma cell line과 neuroblastorna, human mast cell line) for 24 and 48 Hour treatment. 2. Bee venom, apamin, melittin and MCD peptide showed dose-dependent cytotoxic effect in some human cell lines for 24 and 48 Hour treatment. 3. Bee venom treatment for 24 and 48 hour showed higher cytotoxic effects than apamin, melittin and MCD peptide. Conclusions : These results suggest that bee venom, apamin, melittin and MCD peptide have concentration- and dose- dependent cytotoxic effect in some human cell lines. But further study is needed for optimal concentration and dose.
