This paper deals with the detail rotordynamic analysis for BB5 eight stages pump as development of API 610 BB5 type pump. Dry-run analytical model, not considering operating fluid, and wet-run analytical model, considering operating fluid are established. In addition, plain circular and pressure dam bearings are chosen and it was discussed that each bearing has an effect on dynamic characteristics of pump rotor system. A rotordynamic analysis includes the critical speed map, Campbell diagram, stability, and unbalance response. As results, it was predicted that rated speed of the pump rotor passes through 1st critical speed in dry-run condition regardless of bearings, however, it was verified that, in wet-run condition, the rotor system doesn't have critical speeds even if more than twice rated speed. Hence the resonance problem caused by the critical speeds does not happen since actual operating is in wet-run condition including operating fluid. As a result of unbalance response analysis, the pump rotor has stable vibration response at rated speed, regardless of operating fluid and the proposed bearing types.

Rural multi-purpose buildings needs to ensure their safety against various disasters. Therefore, a pile foundation, which is a foundation type that can transmit the load of the structure to the bedrock layer, has been designed. The pile foundation method is largely divided into driving piles method and pre-bored pile method. Recently, in order to respond to the Noise and Vibration Control Act and related environmental complaints, construction of pile foundation adopts pre-bored pile method. The bearing capacity of the pre-bored pile method is calculated through a load test in situ. However, a disadvantage stems in that it is difficult to measure the ultimate bearing capacity due to field conditions. Therefore, in this study, the skin frictional force of pre-bored pile was measured through a model test in laboratory for each pile filling material. In result, the pile filling material with using circulating resources shows superior skin frictional force than ordinary portland cement. This study also judged that the result can be applied in place of ordinary Portland cement in the field.
An aircraft impact (AI) on a nuclear power plant (NPP) is considered to be a beyond-design-basis event that draws considerable attention in the nuclear field. As some NPPs have already adopted the seismic isolation technology, and there are relevant standards to guide the application of this technology in future NPPs, a new challenge is that nuclear power engineers have to determine a reasonable method for performing AI analysis of base-isolated NPPs. Hence, dynamic influences of the seismic isolation on the vibration and structural damage characteristics of the base-isolated CPR1000 containment are studied under various aircraft loads. Unlike the seismic case, the impact energy of AI is directly impacting on the superstructure. Under the coupled influence of the seismic isolation and the various AI load, the flexible isolation layer weakens the constraint function of the foundation on the superstructure, the results show that the seismic isolation bearings will produce a large horizontal deformation if the AI load is large enough, the acceleration response at the base-mat will also be significantly affected by the different horizontal stiffness of the isolation bearing. These concerns require consideration during the design of the seismic isolation system.
Various seismic isolation and reduction devices have been applied to suppress the longitudinal vibration of continuous girder bridges. As representative devices, lead rubber bearing (LRB) and fluid viscous damper (FVD) might suffer from deterioration during the long-term service. This study aims to evaluate the impact of device deterioration on the seismic responses of continuous girder bridges and investigate the seismic behavior of deteriorated LRBs and FVDs. Seismic performance of a simplified bridge model was investigated, and the influence of device deterioration was evaluated by the coefficient of variation method. The contribution of LRB and FVD was assessed by the Sobol global sensitivity analysis method. Finally, the seismic behaviors of deteriorated LRBs and FVDs were discussed. The result shows that (i) the girder-pier relative displacement is the most sensitive to the changes in the deterioration level, (ii) the deterioration of FVD has a greater effect on the structural responses than that of LRB, (iii) FVD plays a major role in energy dissipation with a low degradation level while LRB is more essential in dissipating energy when suffering from high degradation level, (iv) the deteriorated devices are more likely to reach the ultimate state and thus be damaged.
The damping characteristics of a cylindrical structure containing oil and bearing balls is investigated for external bending forces. The experimental data obtained through the use of bearing balls with viscous oil in a column is given and analyzed. The viscous action of the oil and inertia effects of the balls on the inside of column create a drag force. The drag force dampens the vibration of the column. This study aims to search for an optimum combination of oil and balls which would produce maximum damping. Machining oils of various viscosities along with ball bearings of various sizes place inside cantilevered aluminium tubes of various diameters to create a rig on which the damping properties of the oil and balls can be studied. The contileved tubes are studied in both horizontal and vertical positions in order to gauge the effect of gravity on the system. The actions of the ball in the column and damping characteristics are investigated according to the dimensionless terms. The Buckingham theorem is used to reduce the variables and to predict the damping of an oil ball column. Though the damping ratio remains fairly constant in the horizontal position of column, the damping ratio begins to increase as the ratio of the number of balls and column length rise above 0.28 in the vertical position of oil ball column. The ratio of the ball diameter to column diameter influences the damping ratio with an optimum diameter ratio. Slenderness ratio and gravity effects on the damping ratio ane investigated.
Dark to pale green-colored, Cr-bearing sericites from hydrothermal alteration zone of the Narim gold deposit were investigated mineralogically and geochemically. The alteration zone is composed mineralogically of quartz, carbonate minerals and green sericite with minor amounts of chlorite, barite and sulfide minerals (pyrite, sphalerite, galena). The zone is enriched in As (967 to 1520 ppm), Cu (31 to 289 ppm), Ni (1027 to 1205 ppm), Pb (0.20 to 1.24 wt.%) and Zn (1.03 to 1.07 wt. %) compared with fresh rocks such as granitic gneiss, porphyritic biotite granite and basic dyke. The Cr, probably the chromophore element, is highly enriched in the alteration zone (1140 to 1500 ppm), host granitic gneiss (1200 ppm) and porphyritic biotite granite (1200 ppm). Occurrence and grain size of sericite are diverse, but most of the Cr-bearing sericites (150 to $200{\mu}m$ long and 20 to $30{\mu}m$ wide) occur along the boundaries between ore veins and host rocks (especially basic dyke and granitic gneiss). X-ray diffraction data of the sericite show its monoclinic form with unit-cell parameters of $a=5.202{\AA}$, $b=8.994{\AA}$, $c=20.103{\AA}$, ${\beta}=95.746^{\circ}$ and $V=935.83{\AA}^3$, which are similar with the normal 2M1-type muscovite. Representative chemical formula of the sericite is ($K_{1.54}Ca_{0.03}Na_{0.01}$)($Al_{3.42}Mg_{0.38}Cr_{0.14}Fe_{0.06}V_{0.02}$)($Si_{6.69}Al_{1.31}$)$O_{20}(OH)_4$. The Cr content increases with decrease of the octahedral Al content, and ranges from 0.36 to 2.58 wt.%. DTA and TG curves of the sericite show endothermic peaks at $342^{\circ}$ to $510^{\circ}$, $716^{\circ}$ to $853^{\circ}$ and $1021^{\circ}C$, which are due to the expulsion of hydroxyl group. The total weight loss by heating is measured to be about 8.8 wt. %, especially at $730^{\circ}C$. Infrared absorption experiments of the sericite show broad absorption band due to the O-H bond stretching vibration near the $3625cm^{-1}$, coupled with the 825 and $750cm^{-1}$ doublet. The vibration bands related with the H-O-Al and Si-O-Al bonds occur at $1030cm^{-1}$ and 500 to $700cm^{-1}$, respectively. Based on paragonite content of the sericite, the formation temperature of the Narim gold deposit is calculated to be $220{\pm}10^{\circ}C$.

In this paper, design requirements of the large radar were investigated, and development was performed through the analysis and design. Large radar should be designed by bearing the 75 knot wind force and $20kg/m^2$ ice mass as operating conditions in order to meet structural stability, and driving torque and bearing load were calculated for securing the driving stability. Thermal dissipation analysis was performed considering TRM and DC-DC Converter's limitation temperature by $50^{\circ}C$ ambient temperature condition in order to attain thermal stability, and PSD and shock analysis were carried out by using MIL-STD-810G vibration and shock specification in order to transport and installation of the large radar. As a result, all components of large radar could secure the structural stability more than 2.8 factor of safety, and driving stability was also secured with adequate bearing fatigue life. Thermal stability was attained by allowable max temperature 88.7 C of the TRM, and structural stability for transportation and installation of the large radar was also secured more than 5 factor of safety. After it was transported and installed to the radar site, operating capability was finally verified by rotating the large radar.
In this paper, a hybrid seismic response control (HSRC) system was developed to control bridge behavior caused by the seismic load. It was aimed at optimum vibration control, composed of a rubber bearing of passive type and MR-damper of semi-active type. Its mathematical modeling was driven and applied to a bridge model so as to prove its validity. The bridge model was built for the experiment, a two-span bridge of 8.3 meters in length with the HSRC system put up on it. Then, inflicting the EI Centro seismic load on it, shaking table tests were carried out to confirm the system's validity. The experiments were conducted under the basic structure state (without an MR-damper applied) first, and then under the state with an MR-damper applied. It was also done under the basic structure state with a reinforced rubber bearing applied, then the passive on/off state of the HSRC system, and finally the semi-active state where the control algorithm was applied to the system. From the experiments, it was observed that pounding rather increased when the MR-damper alone was applied, and also that the application of the HSRC system effectively prevented it from occurring. That is, the experiments showed that the system successfully mitigated structural behavior by 70% against the basic structure state, and, further, when control algorithm is applied for the operation of the MR-damper, relative displacement was found to be effectively mitigated by 80%. As a result, the HSRC system was proven to be effective in mitigating responses of the two-span bridge under seismic load.
In this paper, a method is proposed for establishing an approximate prediction model of rotor-dynamics through modal testing. In particular, the proposed method is applicable to systems that cannot be established according to conventional methods owing to the absence of information regarding the dimensions and material of the rotor-bearing system. The proposed method is demonstrated by employing a motor dynamometer driven by a 1 MW class induction motor without dimension and material information. The proposed method comprises a total of seven steps, wherein an initial model is established by incorporating approximate dimensions and material information, and the model is improved on the basis of the natural frequency characteristics of the system. During model improvement, the modification factor is introduced for adjusting the elastic modulus and shear modulus of the system. Analysis of critical speed and imbalance response indicates that the separation margin is 67% and the maximum vibration amplitude is less than the amplitude limit of 0.032 mm under the API 611 standard, which means that the motor dynamometer can stably operate at a rated speed of 1800 rpm. Hence, the obtained results validate the feasibility of the proposed method. Furthermore, for broad usage, it is necessary to accordingly apply and validate the proposed method for various rotor-bearing systems.
A CFPBS (Cone-type Friction Pendulum Bearing System) was developed to control the acceleration delivered to a structure to prevent the damage and degradation of critical communication equipment during earthquakes. This study evaluated the isolation performance of the CFPBS by numerical analysis. The CFPBS was manufactured in the shape of a cone differenced with the existing FPS (Friction Pendulum System), and a pattern was engraved on the friction surface. The natural frequencies of the CFPBS were evaluated from a free-vibration test with a seismic isolator system consisting of 4 CFPBS. To confirm the earthquake-resistant performance, a numerical analysis program was prepared using the equation of the CFPBS induced from the equations of motion. The equation reported by Tsai for the rolling-type seismic isolation bearings was proposed to design the equation of the CFPBS. Artificial seismic waves that satisfy the maximum earthquake scale of the Korean Building Code-Structural (KBC-2005) were created and verified to review the earthquake-resistant performance of the CFPBS by numerical analysis. The superstructural mass of the CFPBS and the skew angle of friction surface were considered for numerical analysis with El Centro NS, Kobe NS and artificial seismic waves. The CFPBS isolation performance evaluation was based on the numerical analysis results, and comparative analysis was performed between the results from numerical analysis and simplified theoretical equation under the same conditions. The validity of numerical analysis was verified from the shaking table test.
