  • Almost all rotating machinery has bearings. Bearing is one of the most important part of rotating machinery. Vibration of rotating machinery depend on its bearing conditions. Bearing conditions are followings ; oil gap, bearing type, bearing temperature, bearing oil condition. Especially, bearing oil condition influences on rotating machinery vibration directly. In this paper we have discussed the abnormal vibration of turbine due to oil condition. oil whip problem was occured in the certain power plant. and we had sloved this problem through the control of operating values and alignment.

  • In-situ bearing metal temperature and shaft vibration are measured for an unload type and a preload type, m=0.87, of vertical guide bearing for hydraulic pump-turbines. Guide bearing is a tiltingpad type journal bearing consisting of eight pads whose diameter is 1,450 mm. Rotational speed is 450 rpm. Both the bearing metal temperature and the shaft vibration are very high in the unload type but are slight in the preload type, comparatively. The bearing metal temperature is decreased due to the increase of cooling effect by the increase of preload and the shaft vibration is decreased due to the increase of bearing stiffness. It is concluded that the preload effect of a guide bearing for hydraulic pump-turbines has a large influence on the bearing metal temperature and the shaft vibration.

  • This paper describes an optimal design technology in a segment type vertical guide bearing for vertical rotating machinery. Segment type vertical guide bearings have widely used for vertical rotating machinery, however bearing problems, such as excessive vibration and temperature rise, frequently take place in the actual machine. Such excessive vibration magnitude and/or abnormal bearing metal temperature rise result in serious damage and economic losses. Thus the segment type vertical guide bearing should be designed to get optimal characteristics in order to maintain stable operation without bearing failure due to abnormal vibration and/or abnormal bearing metal temperature. The preload ratio is the most important parameter in designing the segment type vertical guide bearing. Because adjustment of the bearing preload by changing the bearing clearance could easily control both the bearing stiffness and the cooling effect. In the paper, the influence of the preload effects on the bearing metal temperature and the bearing stiffness has been investigated both theoretically and experimentally in order to find out an optimum preload ratio. Results show that the segment type vertical guide bearing has an optimum preload ratio at which the bearing stiffness reaches a masimum value while the bearing metal temperature is minimized.

  • The characteristics of gear meshing vibration undesgo change as the vibration is transmitted from the gear to the housing. Therefore, vibration transmission characteristics of helical gear systems must be understood before the effective methods of reducing gear noise can be found. In this work, using a helical gear with different lead errors, the gear vibration in the rotational direction and the bearing vibration are measured. The frequency characteristics of gear and bearing vibration are investigated and a comparson is also provided.

  • Hybrid air-foil magnetic bearing combines two oil free bearing technologies to take advantage of the strengths of each bearing with minimizing each other weaknesses. This paper presents bending mode vibration control of a flexible shaft supported by the hybrid air-foil magnetic bearing. An experiment set-up of a flexible shaft supported by the hybrid air-foil magnetic bearing is built. In order to verify the effectiveness of the hybrid bearing, unbalance responses of the flexible shaft supported by three different bearings: air-foil, magnetic and hybrid bearings are compared. Effect of load sharing between air-foil and magnetic bearings are investigated through changing control gain and offset displacements of magnetic bearing.

  • It is known that ball bearings mounted in housing or on shaft are playing a key role to keep it running smoothly. The roundness of a housing bore on which bearing outer ring is mounted with interference has directly affected the running accuracy of bearing. The running accuracy of bearing, therefore, can extend the significant influence to the rotating machinery as well. In this paper, bearing's vibration and fatigue life considering raceway roundness of ball bearing before and after mounted in housing bore are theoretically estimated. To perform analysis, a simple three degrees of freedom model was proposed and then Newton-Raphson iterative method was introduced to be utilized in the analysis. The results show that the vibration magnitude of ball bearing fitted into housing unit is appeared considerably larger than the one of its pre-assembling. And theoretical $L_{10}$ life which ninety percent of the bearing population will endure decreased in about fifty percent.

  • Ball bearings which were fitted between housing and shaft play an important role in rotating shaft system smoothly, Therefore bearing's running accuracy has significant influence on that of rotating machinery. Manufacturing accuracy of bearings as well as that of shaft and housing is main factor to affect bearing running accuracy In this paper, bearing's vibration and fatigue life considering raceway roundness of ball bearing before and after being fitted into housing are theoretically estimated. To perform analysis, a simple three degrees of freedom model was proposed and then these analysis was conducted utilizing the Newton-Raphson iterative method. • As the rotational speed and the track density are increased, the vibration of disk/spindle system becomes critical issue in order to reduce the track mis-registration. In this work, we propose a simple inclined air bearing (20${\times}$20 mm) system which is located very near to the rotating poly-carbonate disk, and investigate suppressing effect for the disk vibration mode (0,0) both experimentally and numerically. We find dynamic stiffness and damping coefficients of air bearing and then apply those values to the disk vibration analysis. Numerical results show about 10 percent difference comparing to the experimental results. Also we investigate the reduction of disk vibration and power consumption with two different kinds of inclined bearing for the normal disk drive system experimentally. We find inclined air bearing can reduce about 30 percents of the transverse disk vibration.

  • This paper considers the vibration problem of vehicle driveline which consists of two propeller shafts and the center bearing. The excessive vibration occurs at the center bearing when the vehicle starts to run. Using the kinematic constraints at the universal joint between two propeller shafts, we develop an one d.o.f model which describes the radial motion of the center bearing. We find out the vibration occurs at the specific vehicle speed corresponding to the natural frequency of the model. Comparing the simulation results with test results we also show that the vibration at low vehicle speed is caused primarily by the joint angle and secondarily by the mis-aligned yoke flange rather than by the unbalance.
