  • The Faraday cup electrode of different size has been developed and evaluated to investigate the diffusion effect of particles by Brownian motion in a particle beam mass spectrometer(PBMS). Particles which focused and accelerated by aerodynamic lens are charged to saturation in an electron beam, and then deflected electrostatically into a Faraday cup detector for measurement of the particle current. The concentration of particles is converted from currents detected by Faraday cup. Measurements of particle current as a function of deflection voltage are combined with measured relationships between particle velocity and diameter, charge and diameter, and mass and diameter, to determine the particle size distribution. The particle currents were measured using 5, 10, 20, 40 mm sized Faraday cup that can be move to one direction by motion shaft. The current difference for each sizes as a function of position was compared to figure out diffusion effect during transport. Polystyrene latex(PSL) 100, 200 nm sized standard particles were used for evaluation. The measurement using 5 mm sized Faraday cup has the highest resolution in a diffusion distance and the smaller particles had widely diffused.

  • The permeability is the most direct indicator to reflect the durability of concrete, and the testing methods based on external electric field can be used to evaluate concrete permeability rapidly. This study aims to use an experiment method to accurately predict the permeability of concrete box beam during service. The ion migration experiments and concrete surface resistivity are measured to evaluate permeability of five concrete box beams, and the relations between these results in service concrete and electric flux after 6 hours by ASTM C1202 in the laboratory are analyzed. The chloride diffusion coefficient of concrete, concrete surface resistivity and concrete 6 hours charge have good correlation relationship, which denote that the chloride diffusion coefficient and the surface resistivity of concrete are effective for evaluating the durability of concrete structures. The chloride diffusion coefficient of concrete is directly evaluated permeability of concrete box beam in service and may be used to predict the service life, which is fit to engineering applications and the concrete box beam is non-destructive. The concrete surface resistivity is easier available than the chloride diffusion coefficient, but it is directly not used to calculate the service life. Therefore the mathematical relation of the concrete surface resistivity and the concrete chloride diffusion coefficient need to be found, which the service life of reinforced concrete is obtained by the concrete surface resistivity.

  • Load testing is one of the important tests to determine if the structural elements can be used at the intended locations for which they have been designed. It is nothing but gradually applying the loads and measuring the deflections and other parameters. It is usually carried out to determine the behaviour of the system under service/ultimate loads. It helps to identify the maximum load that the structural element can withstand without much deflection/deformation. It will also help find out which part of the element causes failure first. The load-deflection behaviour of the road bridge girder has been studied by carrying out the load test after simulating the field conditions to the extent possible. The actual vertical displacement of the beam at mid span due to the imposed load was compared with the theoretical deflection of the beam. Further, the recovery of deflection at mid span was also observed on removal of the test load. Finally, the beam was checked for any cracks to assert if the beam was capable of carrying the intended live loads and that it could be used with confidence.

  • This paper presents an X-band (9.375 GHz) $1{\times}2$ array microstrip antenna which is capable of active beam compensation for installation of an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV). First of all, a basic $1{\times}2$ array microstrip antenna incorporated with wilkinson power divider was designed and performance of the array antenna was verified. Next, to verify beam steering performance of the designed array microstrip antenna, we fabricated a phase shifter, and the wilkinson power divider as module structure and measured characteristics of beam steering according to phase shifting. The main lobe is 0.6 dBi at $0^{\circ}$, and the side lobe decreased 18.8 dB. The reliable radiation pattern was achieved. Finally, an active beam steering microstrip array antenna attached with the phase shifter and the power divider on the back side of the antenna was designed and fabricated to install wing of UAV for compactness. The maximum gain is 0.1 dBi. Therefore, we obtained a basic antenna technology for compensating beam error according to wing deformation of an UAV installed array antennas.

  • Hydrogen concentration depth profiles in homoepitaxial Si(001) films grown from hyper-thermal Si beams generated by ultrahigh vacuum (UHV) ion-beam sputtering have been measured by nuclear reaction analyses as a function of film growth temperature and deposition rate. Bulk H concentrations CH in the crystalline Si layers were found tio be below detection limits, 1${\times}$1019cm-3, with no indication of significant H surface segregation at the crystalline/amorphous interface region. This is quite different than the case for growth by molecular-beam epitaxy (MBE) where strong surface segregation was observed for similar deposition conditions with average CH values of 1${\times}$1020cm-3 in the amorphous overlayer. The markedly decreased H concentrations in the present experiments are due primarily to hydrogen desorption by incident hyperthermal Si atoms. Reduced H surface coverages during growth combined with collisionally-induced filling of interisland trenches and enhanced interlayer mass transport provide an increase in critical epitaxial thicknesses by up to an order of magnitude over previous MBE results.

  • The Korea Institute of Radiological and Medical Sciences (KIRAMS) electron microbeam system has been built with its prototype components. The system is composed of an electron gun, a beam transport chamber, and a cell image acquisition and positioning stage. Each component has been upgraded through repetitive performance tests for various parametric arrangements. This paper presents the preliminary results of the performance test on the beam control and detection parts of the system.

  • The MCNP5 neutron, electron, photon Monte Carlo transport program was installed on the KISTI's SUN Tachyon computer using the parallel programming. Electron beam accelerators were modeled and shielding calculations were performed in order to investigate the reduction of computation time in the supercomputer environment. It was observed that a speedup of 40 to 80 of computation time can be obtained using 64 CPUs compared to an IBM PC.

  • The integration of high-capacity terrestrial networks with non-terrestrial communication using satellites has become essential to support seamless low-latency services based on artificial intelligence and big data. Tunable light sources have been instrumental in resolving the complexity of channel management in wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) systems, contributing to increased network flexibility and serving as optical sources for long-distance coherent systems. Recently, these light sources have been applied to beam-steering devices in laser communication and sensing applications across ground, aerial, and satellite transport. We examine the utilization and requirements of tunable lasers in WDM networks and describe the relevant development status. In addition, performance requirements and development directions for tunable lasers used in optical interference systems and beam-steering devices are reviewed.

  • This paper presents the design process and evaluaation results of a two-axis force transducer for measuring flange reaction forces. A double-cantilever beam structure is used as a sensing element, and its optimal configuration is determined based on the derived strain equations to maximize the sensitivity and minimize the regid body displacements. To reduce the coupling errors between two-axis forces, strain distributions by finite elemetns analysis are utilized and the Wheaststone bridge cricuits composed of strain gages are built such that the output voltage should be zero, although strains of four strain gages are not zero. Calibration test shows that the two-azxis force transducer developed in this paper is useful in measuring flange reaction forces within the coupling error of 5.53%.

  • A robot hand is used to transport the glass substrate in TFT-LCD manufacturing process. Carbon/epoxy composite is one of the best materials for this kind of robot hand application, due to their lightweight, high stiffness, and good damping characteristics. Major requirement of the robot hand is given as allowable deflection under weight loading of glass substrate and robot hand itself. In this thesis, a carbon/epoxy robot hand was analyzed using finite element method and beam theory to determine the deflection of the hand under the loading that is equivalent to actual weight. Because natural frequency is one of the major interests in robot hand design for TFT-LCD manufacturing process, modal analysis is also conducted using finite element method and beam theory. A robot hand was manufactured, and actual deflection and natural frequency were measured to verify the analysis results and compliance to requirement. The test results showed good agreement with analysis results.
