A Linear Beacon System Featuring an Internal Deoxyguanine Quencher Allows Highly Selective Detection of Single Base Mismatches

  • The fluorescence intensity of a single-stranded oligonucleotide containing a fluorene-labeled deoxyuridine $(U^{Fl})$ unit increases by only 1.5-fold upon formation of its perfectly matched duplex. To increase the fluorescence signal during hybridization, we positioned a quencher strand containing a deoxyguanine (dG) nucleobase, functioning as an internal quencher, opposite to the $U^{Fl}$ unit to reduce the intrinsic fluorescence upon hybridization with a probe. From an investigation of the optimal length of the quencher strand and the effect of the neighboring base sequence, we found that a short strand (five-nucleotide) containing all natural nucleotides and dG as an internal quencher was effective at reducing the intrinsic fluorescence of a linear beacon; it also exhibited high total discrimination factors for the formation of perfectly matched and single base-mismatched duplexes. Such assays that function based on clear changes in fluorescence in response to single-base nucleotide mutations would be useful tools for accelerating diagnoses related to various diseases.

Analysis of C/N Variation of Ku Band Satellite Beacon Receiver According to Rain Attenuation (강우 감쇠에 따른 Ku 대역 위성 비콘 수신기 C/N 변화 해석)

  • This paper predicts and measures the C/N ratio of a beacon signal transmitted from geostationary orbit satellite KorSat 5A ($113^{\circ}E$) at a ground station located in Kimpo. Based on the ground stations, we compared the rain attenuation of the zone K of ITU-R and the rain attenuation which analyzed the domestic weather information. In ITU-R, the Korean rainfall characteristics are classified into zone K, but forecasting the rainfall intensity and attenuation of three adjacent cities based on the cumulative rainfall data per minute from 2013 to 2017. The calculation of rainfall path and attenuation is based on ITU-R recommendations. The change of the C/N according to the rainfall amount was confirmed through the 2 week satellite beacon signal C/N measurement. The predicted critical C/N was decreased to 12 dB at $A_{0.3}$. During the experiment, it was confirmed that it decreased up to 8 dB according to the concentrated rainfall.

Design and Implementation of Indoor Positioning & Shortest Path Navigation System Using GPS and Beacons in Narrow Buildings

  • As techniques for indoor positioning, fingerprinting, indoor positioning method using trilateration, and utilizing information obtained from equipments by Wi-Fi/Bluetooth, etc are common and representative methods to specify the user's indoor position. However, in these methods, an indoor space should be provided with enough space to install a large number of equipment (AP, Beacon). In this paper, we propose a technique that can express the user's location within a building by simultaneously using the GPS signal and the signal transmitted from the beacon in a building structure where the conventional method cannot be applied, such as a narrow building. A shortest path search system was designed and implemented by applying the Dijkstra Algorithm, one of the most representative and efficient shortest path search algorithms for shortest path search. The proposed technique can be considered as one of the methods for measuring the user's indoor location considering the structural characteristics of a building in the future.

  • This paper proposes a precise localization algorithm for a quickly moving mobile robot. In order to localize a mobile robot with active beacon sensors, a relatively long time is needed, since the distance to the beacon is measured using the flight time of the ultrasonic signal. The measurement time does not cause a high error rate when the mobile robot moves slowly. However, with an increase of the mobile robot's speed, the localization error becomes too high to use for accurate mobile robot navigation. Therefore, in this research into high speed mobile robot operations, instead of using two active beacons for localization an active beacon and dual compass are utilized to localize the mobile robot. This new approach resolves the high localization error caused by the speed of the mobile robot. The performance of the precise localization algorithm was verified by comparing it to the conventional method through real-world experiments.

  • The Service had a purpose to be heard through the Smart Phone APP and Smart TV Broadcasting Contents to Foreigner's Language in The Asia Culture Center. This Paper explained how to realize foreigner with Beacon's Signal and IoT gateway provided the voice service with selected his language using AllJoyn Protocol Interface function. IoT Service Platform received the Registration of foreigner's identifier, there sent messages to all devices, which were all IoT gateways, IoT gateway could connect to foreigner's Smart Phone App and heard the Broadcasting contents. If a foreigner went out of Beacon's management distance, the voice App service were released.

  • This paper proposes a beacon color code scheduling algorithm for the localization of multiple robots in a multi-block workspace. With the developments of intelligent robotics and ubiquitous technology, service robots are applicable for the wide area such as airports and train stations where multiple indoor GPS systems are required for the localization of the mobile robots. Indoor localization schemes using ultrasonic sensors have been widely studied due to its cheap price and high accuracy. However, ultrasonic sensors have some shortages of short transmission range and interferences with other ultrasonic signals. In order to use multiple robots in wide workspace concurrently, it is necessary to resolve the interference problem among the multiple robots in the localization process. This paper proposes an indoor localization system for concurrent multiple robots localization in a wide service area which is divided into multi-block for the reliable sensor operation. The beacon color code scheduling algorithm is developed to avoid the signal interferences and to achieve efficient localization with high accuracy and short sampling time. The performance of the proposed localization system is verified through the simulations and the real experiments.

An Improved Preliminary Cut-off Indoor Positioning Scheme in Case of No Neighborhood Reference Point (이웃 참조 위치가 없는 경우를 개선한 실내 위치 추정 사전 컷-오프 방식)

  • In learning stage of the preliminary Cut-off indoor positioning scheme, RSSI and UUID data received from beacons at each reference point(RP) are stored in fingerprint map. The fingerprint map and real-time beacon information are compared to identify the nearest K reference points through which the user position is estimated. If the number of K is zero, this scheme cannot estimate user position. We have improved the preliminary Cut-off scheme to get the estimated user position even in the case. The improved scheme excludes the beacon of the weakest signal received by user mobile device and identifies neighborhood reference points using the other beacon information. This procedure are performed repetitively until K > 0. The simulation results confirm that the proposed scheme outperforms K-Nearest-Neighbor (KNN), Cluster KNN and the conventional Cut-off scheme in terms of accuracy while the constraints are guaranteed to be satisfied.

  • IoT technology has been used as a core technology of convergence service that needs intelligent information processing, and the importance is largely emerging now. And internal network construction thru IoT interaction device can connect with IoT device effectively, provide diverse services by connection with open platform. Especially, beacon that is based on low electric power bluetooth device is receiving attention as one of core technology of IoT. Beacon technology is utilized widly in various fields of industry, and there are lot of demands in the specific environment and conditions beyond the basic function. On this thesis, the authors are proposing the beacon device that utilized acceleration sensor and hole sensor. this beacon device can control the target on specific situation thru sensing of moving target. For the more, we will expect to apply to the various type of factory environments like detachable installation, optimized management using sensor.

  • In this paper, we propose a taxi safety support system using the beacon device to reduce the anxiety and increase the satisfaction of taxi passengers. At first, we design a USB-type low power beacon device that can be easily installed inside a taxi and propose a distance and estimation method using beacon signal strength. Mobile applications for passengers and drivers based on beacon signals are developed. The server operation program for situation recognition, position estimation, risk management and notification of the taxi passenger is also developed. An accident risk management method is proposed using the recognition of getting on and off of the taxi passenger. The proposed methods are verified for applicability and usefulness through practical experiments.
