  • A RF receiver section for INMARSAT-C external mounting unit was designed, fabricated and evaluated. Using a INA-03184, the high gain amplifier consists of matched amplifier type. Active bias circuitry can be used to provide temperature stability without requiring the large voltage drop or relatively high-dissipated power needed with a bias stabilization resistor. The bandpass filter was used to reduce a spurious level. As a result, the characteristics of the receiver section implemented here show 60 dB in gain, 44.83 dBc in a spurious level. The voltage standing wave ratios(VSWR)of input output port are less than 1.8:1, respectively.

  • The compound B(C6F5)3 and its variations have been widely employed as alkyl carbanion abstracting reagents to produce metallocene cations for olefin polymerization.1-3 Weakly coordinating anions containing boron can greatly improve the activity of metallocene catalysts used in industrial olefin polymerization4 and thus group IV and V metallocene complexes of the organohydroborate anions have been intensively investigated.5 Recently, many organohydroborate metallocene complexes have been reported by Shore and co-workers.6-8 A common structural feature of those complexes is the three-center two electron M-H-B bond, like that observed in transition metal tetrahydroborate complexes but the reactivity and fluxional behavior of organohydroborate complexes are unlike those of the tetrahydroborate analogues.6 Although many of those metallocenes have been synthesized, few complexes could be used in the olefin polymerization and then this laboratory has been involved in the chemistry of the cyclic organohydroborate anions, and their group IV metallocene derivatives for the catalyst.9 Described here is recent work that led to the preparation of a novel cyclic organohydroborate hafnocene complex (h5-C5H5)2Hf ?(μ-H)2BC8H14 ,Cl. The hafnocene complex contains the three-center two electron bond Hf-H-B10 in which the hydride abstraction for olefin polymerization may occur.

  • Dithering scheme has been widely used to improve the resolution of DCO(Digitally Controlled Oscillator) in conventional ADPLLs(All Digital Phase Locked Loop). In this paper a new resolution improvement scheme is proposed where a simple DAC is employed to overcome the problems of dithering scheme. A 2.4GHz LC-based DCO has been designed in a $0.13{\mu}m$ CMOS process with an enhanced frequency resolution for wireless local area network applications. It has a frequency tuning range of 900MHz and a resolution of 58.8Hz. The frequencies are controled by varactors in coarse, fine, and DAC bank. The DAC bank consists of an inversion mode NMOS varactor. The other varactor banks consist of PMOS varactors. Each varactor bank is controlled by 8bit digital signal. The designed DCO exhibits a phase noise of -123.8dBc/Hz at 1MHz frequency offset. The DCO core consumes 4.2mA from 1.2V supply.

  • A new schematic of quadrature voltage controlled oscillator(QVCO) is designed and fabricated. To obtain quadrature characteristic and low phase noise simultaneously, two differential VCOs are forced to un in quadrature mode by using coupling amplifier with a source degeneration resistor, which is optimized to obtain quadrature accuracy with minimum phase noise degradation. The designed QVCO was fabricated in standard CMOS technology. The measured performance showed the phase noise of below -120 dBc/Hz at 1 MHEz frequency offset, tuning bandwidth of 210 MHz from 2.34 GHz to 2.55 GHz with a tuning voltage varying form 0 to 1.8 V Quadrature error of 0.5 degree and amplitude error of 0.2 dB was measured with conjunction with low-lF mixer. The fabricated QVCO requires 19 mA including 5 mA in the VCO core part fiom a 1.8 V supply.

  • In this paper a wideband frequency synthesizer is designed for DTV tuners using a $0.18{\mu}m$ CMOS process. It satisfies the DTV frequency band(48~1675MHz). A scheme is proposed to cover the full band using only one VCO and reliable broadband characteristics are achieved by reducing the variations of VCO gains and frequency steps. The simulation results show that the designed VCO has frequency range of 1.85~4.22GHz, phase noise at 4.22GHz of -89.7dBc/Hz@100kHz, gains of 62.4~95.8MHz/V(${\pm}21.0%$) and frequency steps of 22.9~47.9MHz(${\pm}35.3%$). The designed VCO has a phase noise of -89.75dBc/Hz at 100kHz offset. The designed synthesizer has a lock time less than $0.15{\mu}s$. The measured VCO tuning range is 2.05~3.4GHz. The frequency range is shifted down but still satisfy the target range owing to the design for enough margin. The designed circuit consumes 23~27mA from a 1.8V supply, and the chip size including PADs is $2.0mm{\times}1.5mm$.

  • The partial molal volumes and relative viscosities of tetraethylammonium chloride in a series of dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO)-water mixtures were measured at $30^{\circ}C$. A maximum structuredness of solvent, that leads to a minimum viscosity A-coefficient and a maximum viscosity B-coefficient of the Jones-Dole equation(${\eta}_r=1+AC^{1/2}$ + BC), was found at 0.2${\sim}$0.3 mole fraction of DMSO. The solvent structure, that leads to a minimum partial molal volume due to the maximum electrostrictive effect of chloride ion and to a minimum viscosity B-coefficient, was found at 0.4${\sim}$0.5 mole fraction of DMSO. An approximate relationship between the limiting effective flowing volume, $V_e^{\circ}$, and the B-coefficient was found to be B = 2.5 $V_e^{\circ}$ in the Einstein equation.

  • Background: Anemia is the most common hematologic abnormality in bladder cancer (BC) patients. We evaluated the impact of preoperative anemia on oncologic outcomes in BC undergoing transurethral resection of a bladder tumor (TURBT) for the first time diagnosis. Materials and Methods: We retrospectively evaluated the data collected from 639 patients who underwent TURBT between January 2006 and September 2014 in our department. Of these patients, 320 qualified for inclusion in the study. The primary efficacy endpoint was the effect of preoperative anemia status on cancer-specific and overall survival. Independent t-test and chi-square analyses were performed to assess the effects of anemia on oncologic outcomes. Survival was estimated by using the Kaplan-Meier test. Results: There were 118 (36.9%) and 202 (63.1%) patients in the anemia (Group-1) and non-anemia groups (Group-2), respectively. The median follow-up duration was 68 months. Anemia was associated with decreased overall survival (p<0.001). Comparison between cancer-specific survival of two groups did not show any statistically significant difference (p=0.17). Conclusions: Preoperative anemia status of BC patients according to World Health Organization classification is associated with decreased overall survival, but not with cancer-specific survival. We think that preoperative hemoglobin levels should be considered in patient counseling and decision-making for additional therapy.

  • In spite water direct seeding cultivation of rice has advantages in terms of laborsaving and cost-down, it demonstrates uneven seedling establishment and difficult weed management. To select an applicable mat for mulching system of water seeded rice, weed occurrence, growth and yield performances of rice, and soil temperature were evaluated in several kinds of biodegradable mulching material. Field studies were conducted at the experimental farm of National Crop Experiment Station in 1999 and 2000. Among the mats tested in 1999, Safer-mat had the greatest effect on inhibiting weed occurrence and Lawn-mat demonstrated the least efficacy of weed control (EWC) value. In Safer-mat treatment, Ludwigia prostrata was the dominant weed species but Echinochloa crus-galli was not observed. Different kinds of mulching material from the mats studied in 1999 were tested in 2000. Biodegradable polyester (PES) coated on the recycled paper for newspaper press (RP) treatments showed similar or higher EWC values than non-mulched broadcast seed rice with 2 times of herbicide application (BC-herbicide) and Safer-mat that was the most effective mat on preventing weed appearance in 1999. Immediately after mat mulching on the surface of paddy soil, five pregerminated rice seeds were manually sown in each 3cm-hole formerly punctured at 30${\times}$14 cm spacing in 2000. All the 3 kinds of mulching material tested in 2000 had better seedling stand than BC-herbicide treatment. Rice yield in PES coated with 10 thickness on RP (PES10 $\mu\textrm{m}$+RP) was a little higher than in BC-herbicide treatment but the former produced less panicles in unit land area than the latter. PES10 $\mu\textrm{m}$+RP demonstrated a great effect on raising soil surface temperature than non-mulching treatment throughout the period of seedling establishment.

  • To investigate the effect of Bombycis Corpus on male osteoporosis, we performed Dual Energy X-Ray Absorptiometry(DEXA) and histochemical methods. The animals were used ICR-based male mice of 8 weeks and 50 weeks, respectively. ICR male mice at 8 weeks were used in the control group, and ICR male mice at 50 weeks were used in aging group and Bombycis Corpus group(BC group). In the aging group, 0.5 ml of distilled water was administered once a day for 6 months. In BC group, Bombycis Corpus(0.78g/kg) was dissolved in distilled water for 6 months once a day. As a result, Bombycis Corpus decreased bone loss, increased bone density by reducing the loss of bone matrix in the femur due to aging, and increased osteoblast - induced osteopontin(OPN) and osteocalcin(OPC) positivite reaction. In addition, administration of Bombycis Corpus decreased Reaction of activation of nuclear factor kappa B ligand(RANKL) positive reaction, increased osteoprotegerin(OPG) positive reaction, and decreased matrix metalloproteinase-3(MMP-3) and 8-hydroxy-2'-deoxyguanosine(8-OHdG) positivite reaction. Taken together, Bombycis Corpus increases the activity of osteoblasts, inhibits osteoclast function, promotes osteoblast function, inhibits bone tissue degradation, and inhibits bone loss due to oxidative stress. It was observed that Bombycis Corpus reduced bone loss and increased bone density caused by aging to improve male osteoporosis. Therefore, Bombycis Corpus may be used as a preventive and therapeutic agent for male osteoporosis.
