  • In this paper, a cycler system for the Lithium-Polymer battery with the large capacity of 120Ah is presented. This system is constituted as the two units for the charging and discharging. The Lithium-Polymer battery should be charged in CC and CV mode, and it is required a very high precision control of the voltage and current for the charging unit. To decrease the switching noises and harmonics, parallel operation method is adopted and utilized in the power conversion module. The discharging unit has a link AC system function to return the discharging energy of battery to AC line and has comparatively less thermal loss. These units are designed to be controlled and monitored by personal computer. The total system for the battery charging and discharging is described and presented.

  • The blister packaging is applied to many fields in recent years for its merit that it enable consumer to see the products. The most of battery packaging are blister type. However, the lithium battery is dealt with very carefully in packaging because of its explosion. The existing packaging machines for lithium battery are mostly adapted alkaline packaging machine and their capacity is very inferior to other process, either. In this paper, the virtual prototype of the automatic blister packaging system for lithium battery which has new mechanism and 240A/min capacity is developed and its performance is evaluated.

  • This paper describes a Battery Checking & Monitoring System for monitoring battery cell and power system in Uninterruptible Power Supplies(UPS). The system is capable of measuring, in a matter of setting time, float and discharge voltage of up to 240 cells in a single installation, and has the memory capacity to store battery's alarm data information on up to 200 separate sites. This system are easy to maintain and attain cost effectively, so that prepared for meeting the customer's service needs immediately. The system is additionally programmed with a each model, that will enable to accurately determine the remain battery capacity in a UPS system following a short discharge test. It is also equipped with remote interrogation and control facilities.

On-board Capacity Estimation of Lithium-ion Batteries Based on Charge Phase

  • Capacity estimation is indispensable to ensure the safety and reliability of lithium-ion batteries in electric vehicles (EVs). Therefore it's quite necessary to develop an effective on-board capacity estimation technique. Based on experiment, it's found constant current charge time (CCCT) and the capacity have a strong linear correlation when the capacity is more than 80% of its rated value, during which the battery is considered healthy. Thus this paper employs CCCT as the health indicator for on-board capacity estimation by means of relevance vector machine (RVM). As the ambient temperature (AT) dramatically influences the capacity fading, it is added to RVM input to improve the estimation accuracy. The estimations are compared with that via back-propagation neural network (BPNN). The experiments demonstrate that CCCT with AT is highly qualified for on-board capacity estimation of lithium-ion batteries via RVM as the results are more precise and reliable than that calculated by BPNN.

  • Based on the redox couples of a nitroxide radical, organic radical polymers were utilized as the electrode-active or charge-storage component for a secondary battery. We call a battery composed of the radical polymer electrode as "organic radical battery". Organic radical battery has several advantages: high capacity, high power-rate performance, long cycle ability, and environmentally-benign features. Synthesis and electrochemical studies of nitroxide polymers are described. Battery fabrication and cell performance are also reported.

납축전지 극판의 숙성 조건이 양극판의 화학적 조성에 미치는 영향 (Effects of Curing Conditions on the Chemical Compositions of Positive Plate for Lead Acid Battery Plates)

  • Generally, it has been known that positive plate efficiency is the most influential effect on the initial current capacity of lead acid battery. Thus, in this study, we have investigated the curing effect of the positive plate, which is one of the important lead acid battery processes. The curing process of the positive plate is performed either with the separation of each plate with 1mm gap or with no gap of plate. As a result, when there is no interval between each plate, the higher temperature current happened than expected, resulting in the changes in the initial current efficiency of the lead acid battery. The chemical composition and crystal structure of a material coated on the positive plate were identified with XRD and SEM. It was resulted that were only there not a lot of 4BS (tetrabasic-lead sulfate, $4PbO{\cdot}PbSO_4)$ on the plate in case of curing of plates without interval, but a large quantity of $Pb_3O_4$ also formed on the surface. On the other hand, it was observed that 3BS (tribasic-lead sulface, $3PbO{\cdot}PbSO_4{\cdot}H_2O)$ was the main product on the plate in case of typical curing process with some interval. From the initial current capacity test, the positive plate having 3BS was approximately 40% higher in initial current capacity than that having 4BS. It was concluded that 4BS and $Pb_3O_4$ on the plate surface were harmful to the initial current capacity of lead acid battery.

리튬이온전지의 열화손상에 의한 음향방출 신호 검출 (Detection of Acoustic Signal Emitted during Degradation of Lithium Ion Battery)

  • 리튬이온전지의 충/방전 열화 과정에서 발생하는 음향방출 신호를 검출하여 누적카운트, 방전용량, 미세손상 사이의 상관관계를 확인하였다. 상용 리튬이온전지를 사용하여 가속 충/방전 싸이클 실험을 하면서 음향방출 신호를 수집하였다. 다수의 음향방출 신호가 전지의 충전 및 방전 과정에서 각각 검출되었다. 충/방전 열화 싸이클이 증가함에 따라 전지 용량은 감소하였고 음향방출 신호의 누적카운트는 증가하는 경향을 보였다. 충/방전 후 전지를 분해하여 내부 전극 손상을 관찰한 결과 전극 계면 박리 및 미소균열이 다수 확인되었으며, 이러한 기계적 손상이 음향방출원인 것으로 판단된다. 전지 방전용량과 음향방출 누적카운트 사이에는 선형의 상관관계가 있었으며, 이로부터 음향방출법을 이용한 리튬이온전지 열화 평가 가능성을 제안하였다.

Initial Electrochemical Insertion/Desertion of Lithium into Hard Carbon

  • The initial irreversible capacity (IIC) of a hard carbon during the charge/discharge reaction is strongly affected by both the initial irreversible capacity on the carbon surface $(IIC_S)$ and the initial irreversible lithium insertion into carbon $(IIC_B)$. The initial coulombic efficiency of the insertion and the desertion of lithium (IIE) can be used as a performance to classify $IIC_B$ of the carbon. The $IIC_B$ was proportional to the specific discharge capacity with a slope, $IIE^{-1}$ - 1. The IIE of hard carbon had four regions. $IIE_A$ for the region of 0~95 mAh/g of $Q_{D1}$ was 60.2%. $IIE_B$ and $IIE_C$ for the regions of 95~172 mAh/g and 172~308 mAh/g had 84.9% and 91.5%, respectively. $IIE_D$ was appeared above 308 mAh/g. But, the $IIE_D$ was reduced to 82.1% compared with $IIE_C$. These IIE might be corresponding to lithium desertion from carbon at the region of 0~172 mAh/g range, lithium desertion from the micropore of carbon at the region of 172~308 mAh/g range, and to the lithium stripping of the plated lithium for the region above 308 mAh/g, respectively.

  • 해수이차전지는 해수를 양극으로 사용하는 차세대 이차전지이다, 해양 자원을 사용하여 가격 경쟁력과 높은 친환경성, 그리고 해양 애플리케이션에 적합한 구조를 가진다. 이러한 장점을 기반으로 지속적 연구개발을 통해 자연 해수 노출을 가정한 파우치 타입 및 각형 타입이 개발되어 왔다. 그러나 이차전지는 전기적 특성상 사용 환경에 따라 용량 및 내부 임피던스가 달라진다. 이러한 특성은 전지의 수명 예측에 활용될 뿐만 아니라 활용하고자 하는 상황에 맞는 용량과 출력에 직접적인 영향을 미친다. 따라서 본 논문에서는 해수이차전지의 사용 환경에 따른 용량 측정과 SoC-OCV 측정 방법을 통한 내부 저항을 분석하고자 한다.

저이동성을 갖는 무선 애드혹 망에서 다중 경로 정보를 이용한 에너지 인지 라우팅 프로토콜 (Energy-aware Routing Protocol using Multi-route Information in Wireless Ad-hoc Networks with Low Mobility)

  • 낮은 이동성을 갖는 무선 애드혹 네트워크에서, 에너지 고갈에 따른 링크 단절 없이 네트워크 생존시간을 오랫동안 유지할 수 있는 방안을 제시한다. 일반적으로 에너지 잔량이 많이 남아 있는 노드는 트래픽 부하가 적은 노드이다. 따라서 노드의 에너지 잔량을 기준으로 경로를 결정하는 수정 AODV 라우팅 프로토콜을 제안한다. 한편, 기존 AODV에서는 경로 설정을 위해 엄청난 개수의 제어 패킷을 네트워크에 방송함으로써 전체 노드의 에너지 소비가 급격히 늘어난다. 이러한 제어 패킷을 효과적으로 줄이기 위해 발신지 노드는 대체 경로 정보를 자신의 경로 테이블에 저장하도록 하였다. 링크 단절이 발생했을 때, 경로 재설정을 시도하기 전에 발신지 노드는 경로 테이블에 저장된 대체 경로 중에서 해당 경로의 에너지 잔량 총합이 가장 큰 경로를 선택한다. 이렇게 함으로써 불필요한 AODV 제어 패킷 발생 가능성을 줄일 수 있다. 본 논문에서 제안한 방식을 기존 AODV, MMBCR 방식 등과 비교했을 때 네트워크 생존 시간이 최대 40% 증대됨을 알 수 있다.
