  • Basu (1980) examined Fisher Randomization Test (FRT) of matched pair experimental data with critical point of view. Additionally, Lane (1980) pointed out that "the experimenter may be interested in a weaker notion of equality between two treatments, " than the notion of equality which FRT relies on. In this study, a randomization test is developed so that it can test a weaker hypothesis of equality. equality.

  • Factorization models are a generalization of hierarchical loglinear models which apply equally to discrete and continuous distributions. In regular (strictly positive) cases the intersection of two factorization models is another factorization model whose representation is obtained by a simple algorithm. Failure of this result in an irregular case is related to a theorem of Basu on ancillary statistics.

  • We consider a Step Life Testing which is deviced for a two-component serial system with the considerably long life time. In the modelling stage we discuss the bivariate exponential distribution suggested by Block and Basu as the bivariate survival function for the two-component system, and develope the cumulative exposure model introduced by Nelson so that it can be used under the bivariate function. We consider inference on the component life time when the components are at work in the system by combining the information from system life test and that from the component tests carried out separately under the controlled environment. In data analysis, maximum likelihood estimators are discussed with the initial value obtained by an weighted least square method. Finally we discuss the optimal time for changing the stress in the simple step stress life testing.

  • In this paper hi-criterion quadratic fractional generalized solid transportation problem is studied. An algorithm is developed to obtain the time-cost trade-off pairs and hence identifies the optimum trade-off pairs giving the equal priority to both time and cost. A numerical example is illustrated to support the algorithm.

  • Moore and Stubblebine(1981) suggested a chi-square test for multivariate normality based on cell counts calculated from the sample Mahalanobis distances. They derived the limiting distribution of the test statistic only when equiprobable cells are employed. Using conditional limit theorems, we derive the limiting distribution of the statistic as well as the asymptotic normality of the cell counts. These distributions are valid even when equiprobable cells are not employed. We finally apply this method to a real data set.

  • In this paper, we consider the robust estimation for diffusion processes when the sample is observed discretely. As a robust estimator, we consider the minimizing density power divergence estimator (MDPDE) proposed by Basu et al. (1998). It is shown that the MDPDE for diffusion process is weakly consistent. A simulation study demonstrates the robustness of the MDPDE.

  • A single item order level inventory model for perishable products is considered in which a constant fraction of on hand inventory spoils per unit time. Demand linearly depends on time. The fluctuation of demand is taken into account to determine minimum total cost of the system. Both discrete and continuous fluctuations are considered. The model is developed and solved analytically for infinite time horizon. A numerical example is presented for finite time horizon. Sensitivity analysis of the model is carried out.

  • For a series or parallel system, though the component lifetimes have the absolutely continuous bivariate exponential distributions(ACBVE) by Block and Basu(1974), the common assumption that the component lifetimes are independent is used. The purpose of this paper, in this case, is to investigate the magnitude of the error caused by erroneous assumption, using the measure proposed by Klein and Moeschberger(1986). Estimation of the measure is conducted by maximum likelihood estimator(MLE) and those estimators are compared with corresponding jackknifed MLE through the Monte Carlo study.

  • This paper establishes the empirical model based on Hall's(1990) and Basu' s(1996) models, estimates the five types of productivity in the medical service industry over the period 1975:1-2010:4, and analyzes the cyclicality of measured productivities and their correlations with the industrial real wage. The empirical results are summarized as the followings. First, there proved to be substantial market power in pricing and returns to scale in production for the medical service industry. Second, the three types of productivity among 5 types showed to be procyclical. Third, the average labor productivity, the original Solow residual, and the cost-based Solow residual are expected to provide reasonable indexes in analyzing the relationship between productivity and real wage.
