Structure Structural Durability Analysis on Bike Carrier Basket (자전거 짐받이에 대한 구조적 내구성 해석)

  • This study investigates structural durability through the analyses of stress, fatigue life and vibration damage at bike carrier basket. As model 2 has less stress and deformation than model 1 on static structural analysis, model 2 becomes more durable than model 1. Among the cases of nonuniform fatigue loads, 'SAE bracket history' with the severest change of load becomes most unstable but 'Sample history' becomes most stable. The amplitude deformations become highest at maximum response frequency of 2400Hz in cases of models 1 and 2. As the values of maximum equivalent stresses become within the allowable material stresses at two holes at the upper parts on models 1 and 2, these models become safe. The structural result of this study can be effectively utilized with the design of bike carrier basket by investigating prevention and durability against fatigue or vibration damage.

  • In the offshore plant industry, the Access service basket for aerial work is used of for various business purposes. However, various types of safety accidents continue to occur in operating these system. In the case of high-capacity workstations currently in use, workers are exposed to various risks in determining and operating the load capacity, proximity distance, and direction of operation. In this paper, to solve this problem, we develop a device that incorporates IoT-based monitoring and crash alarm systems into aerial work systems. The developed device was tested in the presence of experts to ensure reliability of the device, which allows workers and managers to easily check the operation status and thereby prevent safety accidents in advance.

  • In this paper, we proposed the standard test specification for safety and function of hiking stick for the elderly. We have concluded nine factors representing specification of hiking stick through analysis of hiking patents and research papers, products survey of business market, case studies for damaged hiking stick and expert surveys. To test the factors, we designed three different kinds of apparatus to examine twist resistance, stick and tip durability and stick straightness. The sample of hiking sticks purchased from market based on Naver sales ranking top to fifteenth. As a result, we concluded six-standard test specification based on eccentric load, adjustable parts load, hand strap load, basket load, tip load and pull load of hiking stick.

  • In this study, some structural analysis using 3D CAD data, material properties, load conditions and boundary conditions are carried out to evaluate structural stability of the multi-aerial platform for high-rise fire fighting and rescue. We conduct structural analysis for the upper structures such as turn table, booms and basket, by using a universal structural analysis program NASTRAN. As the results, there is local stress exceeding the yield strength, but it is able to relax stress concentration in a way such as changing thickness of the structure or making larger inertia moment in cross section of booms.

  • This paper presents the results of a structural analysis to determine design variables such as the inner basket array type, and thicknesses of the outer shell, and lid and bottom of a spent nuclear fuel disposal canister. The canister construction type introduced here is a solid structure with a cast iron insert and a corrosion resistant overpack, which is designed for the spent nuclear fuel disposal in a deep repository in the crystalline bedrock, entailing an evenly distributed load of hydrostatic pressure from the groundwater and high swelling pressure from the bentonite buffer. Hence, the canister must be designed to withstand these high pressure loads. Many design variables may affect the structural strength of the canister. In this study, among those variables, the array type of inner baskets and thicknesses of outer shell and lid and bottom are attempted to be determined through a linear structural analysis. Canister types studied hear are one for the pressurized water reactor (PWR) fuel and another for the Canadian deuterium and uranium reactor (CANDU) fuel.

  • The development of high-rise firefighting vehicles warrants thorough structural analysis for ensuring vehicle stability. A few structural analyses were carried out using CAD data, material properties, load conditions, and boundary conditions for evaluating the structural stability of an overloaded multi-aerial platform for firefighting and rescue. Structural analysis was performed with an analytical model consisting of a turntable, six booms, two jib booms, and a basket structure. This model was operated in eight modes. All simulation was performed using NASTRAN, a commercial code. As a result, we confirm that the position of local stress exceeds that of the yield strength. Therefore, stress concentration relaxation is possible by introducing reinforcing boom structures, changing the shape, or imparting a larger moment of inertia to the booms' cross sections.

  • In this paper, the thermal stress analysis of spent nuclear fuel disposal canister in a deep repository at 500m underground is done for the underground pressure variation. Since the nuclear fuel disposal usually emits much heat and radiation, its careful treatment is required. And so a long term safe repository at a deep bedrock is used. Under this situation, the canister experiences some mechanical external loads such as hydrostatic pressure of underground water, swelling pressure of bentonite buffer, and the thermal load due to the heat generation of spent nuclear fuel in the basket etc.. Hence, the canister should be designed to designed to withstand these loads. In this paper, the thermal stress analysis is done using the finite element analysis code, NISA.

Rolling Test Simulation of Sea Transport of Spent Nuclear Fuel Under Normal Transport Conditions

  • In this study, the impact load resulting from collision with the fuel rods of surrogate spent nuclear fuel (SNF) assemblies was measured during a rolling test based on an analysis of the data from surrogate SNF-loaded sea transportation tests. Unfortunately, during the sea transportation tests, excessive rolling motion occurred on the ship during the test, causing the assemblies to slip and collide with the canister. Hence, we designed and conducted a separate test to simulate rolling in sea transportation to determine whether such impact loads can occur under normal conditions of SNF transport, with the test conditions for the fuel assembly to slide within the basket experimentally determined. Rolling tests were conducted while varying the rolling angle and frequency to determine the angles and frequencies at which the assemblies experienced slippage. The test results show that slippage of SNF assemblies can occur at angles of approximately 14° or greater because of rolling motion, which can generate impact loads. However, this result exceeds the conditions under which a vessel can depart for coastal navigation, thus deviating from the normal conditions required for SNF transport. Consequently, it is not necessary to consider such loads when evaluating the integrity of SNFs under normal transportation conditions.

A Complementary Analysis for the Structural Safety Evaluation of the Spent Nuclear Fuel Disposal Canister for the Canadian Deuterium and Uranium Reactor (중수로(CANDU)용 고준위폐기물 처분용기의 구조적 안전성 평가 보완 해석)

  • In this paper, a complementary analysis for the structural safety evaluation of the spent nuclear fuel disposal canister developed for the Canadian Deuterium and Uranium(CANDU) reactor for about 10,000 years long term deposition at a 500m deep granitic bedrock repository has been performed. However this developed structural model of the spent nuclear fuel disposal canister which has 33 spent nuclear fuel baskets and whose diameter is 122cm is too heavy to handle without any structural safety problem. Hence a lighter structural model of the spent nuclear fuel disposal canister which is easy to handle has been required to develop very much. There are two methods to reduce the weight of the CANDU canister model. The one is to alleviate severe design conditions such as external loads and safety factor. The other is to optimize the cross section shape of the canister by reducing the spent nuclear fuel basket number. Hence, in this paper a complementary analysis to alleviate such severe design conditions is carried out and simultaneously structural analyses to optimize the cross section shape of the canister by reducing the spent nuclear fuel basket number below 33 are carried out by varying the external load and the canister diameter for the reduction of the canister weight. The complementary analysis results show that the diameter of canister can be shortened below 122cm to reduce the weight of the spent nuclear fuel disposal canister.
