  • After the death of Min-sik Kim in Asan, South Chungcheong Province in September 2019, awareness of the school zone has been increasing, and the traffic law is being revised continuously. However, despite these efforts, the number of traffic accidents among children has not decreased significantly. This indicates the need for a new direction considering the behavioral characteristics of children and the traffic environment. Therefore, this study identified the current status and problems of school zones through case analysis of school zones in Korea. In addition, we analyzed the Vision Zero policy, the concept of Home Zone, and engineering-oriented road design cases and operation methods in Sweden, an advanced country in traffic safety. In addition, the cases of the two countries were compared and organized focusing on the basic principles of disaster prevention design. The purpose of this study is to suggest the direction of design and policy to improve school zone problems in Korea. Through this, it is expected that the results of this study will be used as data for future research development for the reduction of school zone fatalities in Korea.

  • Molecular imaging is used to improve the disease diagnosis, prognosis, monitoring of treatment in living subjects. Numerous molecular targets have been developed for various cellular and molecular processes in genetic, metabolic, proteomic, and cellular biologic level. Molecular imaging modalities such as Optical Imaging, Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI), Positron Emission Tomography (PET), Single Photon Emission Computed Tomography (SPECT), and Computed Tomography (CT) can be used to visualize anatomic, genetic, biochemical, and physiologic changes in vivo. For in vivo cell imaging, certain cells such as cancer cells, immune cells, stem cells could be labeled by direct and indirect labeling methods to monitor cell migration, cell activity, and cell effects in cell-based therapy. In case of cancer, it could be used to investigate biological processes such as cancer metastasis and to analyze the drug treatment process. In addition, transplanted stem cells and immune cells in cell-based therapy could be visualized and tracked to confirm the fate, activity, and function of cells. In conventional molecular imaging, cells can be monitored in vivo in bulk non-invasively with optical imaging, MRI, PET, and SPECT imaging. However, single cell imaging in vivo has been a great challenge due to an extremely high sensitive detection of single cell. Recently, there has been great attention for in vivo single cell imaging due to the development of single cell study. In vivo single imaging could analyze the survival or death, movement direction, and characteristics of a single cell in live subjects. In this article, we reviewed basic principle of in vivo molecular imaging and introduced recent studies for in vivo single cell imaging based on the concept of in vivo molecular imaging.

  • Computational thinking with programming skills has been widely emphasized for future industrial engineering researchers and practitioners in Industry 4.0. However, industrial engineering students still have limited opportunities to improve their computational thinking abilities during university coursework. In this regard, this research study proposes to use Python programming language for teaching classical Industrial Engineering subjects. For a specific case study, we designed and instructed an Engineering Economy lecture which cultivates the concept and techniques of economic analysis for engineering students. During the class, we introduced the usage of several Python libraries that include numpy-financial for basic financial functions, numpy and scipy for simple numerical computation and analysis, and matplotlib for data visualization. Anonymous class evaluation survey showed the effectiveness of the proposed teaching method in terms of both educational satisfaction and contents delivery. Finally, we found additional needs for providing lectures that adopt the similar teaching style to the proposed method.

  • The Internet of Things (IoT) is one of the fastest technologies that are used in various applications and fields. The concept of IoT will not only be limited to the fields of scientific and technical life but will also gradually spread to become an essential part of our daily life and routine. Before, IoT was a complex term unknown to many, but soon it will become something common. IoT is a natural and indispensable routine in which smart devices and sensors are connected wirelessly or wired over the Internet to exchange and process data. With all the benefits and advantages offered by the IoT, it does not face many security and privacy challenges because the current traditional security protocols are not suitable for IoT technologies. In this paper, we presented a comprehensive survey of the latest studies from 2018 to 2021 related to the security of the IoT and the use of machine learning (ML) and deep learning and their applications in addressing security and privacy in the IoT. A description was initially presented, followed by a comprehensive overview of the IoT and its applications and the basic important safety requirements of confidentiality, integrity, and availability and its application in the IoT. Then we reviewed the attacks and challenges facing the IoT. We also focused on ML and its applications in addressing the security problem on the IoT.

  • This study analyzed the compositional characteristics of fashion videos and the characteristics of fashion design spreading as trends through Subversive Basics. Literature research and case studies were conducted concurrently. Based on the literature review, an analysis method was designed, focusing on the concept of online video content, Subversive Basics, and the video content type. For the case analysis, videos were collected and classified using Subversive Basics as the keyword. The content was observed, and design features were analyzed. Based on the results, the collected videos were classified into tutorial, curation, and creative content types according to their compositional characteristics. Tutorial content emphasizes practical actions that demonstrate how to make or modify clothing, thereby promoting user-generated content for dissemination. Curation contents provide users with style ideas and information about clothing and purchases to encourage clothing purchases and influence purchase decisions that lead to dissemination through clothing consumption and wear. Creative content showcases the process of modifying and creating clothes to enhance understanding and value of creative design. The characteristics of fashion design utilized in these contents include bold designs with high visual effects as the first category, designs that can be easily and quickly modified due to intentional incompleteness as the second category, and prominently featured body-positive, individualistic designs as the third category. The results of this study can be associated with balanced development between basic design elements and personalized unique designs, catering to consumer needs.

  • The need for ASP(Application Service Provider) has evolved from the increasing costs of specialized software that have far exceeded the price rage of small to medium sized businesses. There are a lot of technologies that make ASP possible, and software streaming service is one of them Software streaming is a method for overlapping transmission and execution of stream-enabled software. The stream-enabled software is able to run on a device even while the transmission/streaming of the software may still be in progress. Thus, a user does not have to wait for the completion of the software's download prior to starting to execute the software. In this paper, we suggest the new concept of software streaming system implement using the PageFault Interrupt Routine Hooking. As it is able to efficiently manage application, we do not have to install the entire software. In addition, we can save hardware resources by using it because we load basic binaries without occupying the storage space of the hardware.

  • Application of resilient modulus, representing mechanical behavior of pavement materials, has become general concept for pavement design, analysis and maintenance after '86 AASHTO selected it as a basic input property of subgrade. It is known that resilient modulus of domestic subgrade soil is affected greatly by material factors, such as water content and dry weight unit, and stress components, such as deviatoric stress and confining stress, while effects of loading frequency and loading repeat were regarded negligible. If design based on resilient modulus is to be successfully implemented, design input variables of relevant models should be able to reflect local conditions. In this study, generalized mechanical model for subgrade is proposed. Model parameters are estimated from test results. Verification of the model was performed through finite element analysis using the proposed model, which showed good agreement with measured results of pavement deflections.
