  • It is very important and necessary to predict luminous enviroment in an interior space. This paper has described about energy saving and evaluated interior visual environment in a office building having on/off turning control lighting system utilizing daylight. In order to predict the interior varior illumination distribution, the scale model was made and examined under various conditions, such ad difference of window glass, and color pattern of wall, floor, and also ceiling lighting system type. This paper suggests that basic fundamental data of lighting design performance in the concept and schematic stages of design.

  • Generally, instrument transformer of the core type have been used for measuring current. Because instrument transformer has defects, electronic instrument was appeared. Electronic instrument has many merit-linearity, small size, low cost, etc. Rogowski coil is typical electronic CT and R-divider is typical electronic VT. This paper is introduced a basic concept and theory of electronic current transformer, electronic voltage transformer.

  • Planning Environment Impact Assessment is regarded as one of the most important measures to achieve sustainable development in China. Conduct environment impact assessment for port planning was prescribed by Environment impact Assessment Law of the People's Republic of China. This Paper introduces the basic concept of Planning Environment Impact Assessment and Port Planning firstly, and then discusses the assessment indicators and assessment methods adopted in the Environment Impact Assessment for port planning. At last, the application of the indicators and methods are illustrated in case studies based on the practice on Port Planning's Environment Assessment in China.

  • The arcing contact wear of circuit breakers can be the major cause for the maintenance requirement. The control of arcing times as short as possible but larger than the given minimum arcing time may be the effective way to mitigate the contact wear and to lessen the expenditure of a maintenance. In this paper the method for minimizing the arcing time is described. The basic concept used in the proposed method is the estimation of the current interruption instant from the informations such as the phase angle at the instant of trip commands and the magnitude of interrupted currents.

  • A novel water-turbine, Katamax, for micro hydropower generator is proposed, which has reasonable efficiency even in two meters of water head. The basic concept of Katamax is similar to that of waterwheel except that Katamax has two axis on which the blades rotate, where general waterwheel has only one. Brief structure and principles of Katamax are explained and analysis for efficiency of each module are provided. The result of the prototype product of Katamax is briefly explained.

Iris Recognition Using Ridgelets

  • Image feature extraction is one of the basic works for biometric analysis. This paper presents the novel concept of application of ridgelets for iris recognition systems. Ridgelet transforms are the combination of Radon transforms and Wavelet transforms. They are suitable for extracting the abundantly present textural data that is in an iris. The technique proposed here uses the ridgelets to form an iris signature and to represent the iris. This paper contributes towards creating an improved iris recognition system. There is a reduction in the feature vector size, which is 1X4 in size. The False Acceptance Rate (FAR) and False Rejection Rate (FRR) were also reduced and the accuracy increased. The proposed method also avoids the iris normalization process that is traditionally used in iris recognition systems. Experimental results indicate that the proposed method achieves an accuracy of 99.82%, 0.1309% FAR, and 0.0434% FRR.

THIN FILM SENSORS FOR AUTOMOBILE

  • A great amount of effort has been devoted to the constant improvement of such basic performance as dirvability, safety and enviromental protection. As a result, the total combination of various technologies has made it possible to produce safer and more comfortable automobiles. Among these technologies, plasma and thin film techniques are mainly cocerned with sensors, optics, electronics and surface modification. This paper first describes a concept of thin film processing in materials synthesis for sensors based on particle-surface interaction during deposition to provide a long life sensor applicable to sutomobiles. Some examples of parctical application of thin films to sensors are then given. These include(1) a thin films strain gauge for gravity sensors, (2) a giant magneto resistance film for speen sensors, and (3) a Magneto-impedance sensors fordetection of low magnetic field. Further progress of sophisticated thin film technology must be considered in detail to explore advanced thin film materials science and to ensure the field reliability of future sensor devices for automobile.

  • This paper presents the development of interactive graphical software for the educational purpose of power flow(PF) calculation. The developed software is specially designated to give a beginner the interest on PF problem as well as to increase the understanding of it with ease. the software developed in this paper is basically composed of the pull-down menu driver, in which various functions, such as Program Master, Data File Management, Case Study Option, PF Run and View Output, are prepared to handle the software easily and thus to be familiar with power flow calculation. A special design is also considered for interactive operation of the software, wi th which user can interrupt the computation process of PF to control the convergency of PF algorithm, With this function begineer can acquire the understanding of convergency characteristics and numerical sensitivity of PF algorithm as well as basic concept of its computation logic. Futhermore, various graphic illustrations is also provided to review and compare the computation results on monitor.

A Design and Characteristics Analysis of High Efficiency Gantry Crane (고효율 갠트리 크레인 설계 및 성능분석)

  • In this paper, an improved high efficiency gantry crane for container transportation is designed. The basic concept of the designed crane can be used with modification of the classical gantry crane instead of changing lots of them. This crane can reduce the cycle time more than the classical gantry carne. The high efficiency gantry crane can improve the productivity of the container transportation job because of reducing cycle time. The loading and unloading capability are compared with classical crane. The result show that show that the proposed crane has better performances than classical type.
