In this article, we compare the reliability and the hazard function between a baseline distribution and the corresponding transmuted-G distribution. Some examples based on existing transmuted-G distributions in literature are used. Three tests of parameter significance are utilized to test the importance of a transmuted-G distribution over the baseline distribution, and real data is used in an application of the inference about the importance of transmuted-G distributions.

The baseline distribution of a structure represents the statistical distribution of dynamic response feature from the healthy state of the structure. Generally, damage-sensitive dynamic response feature of a structure manifest themselves near the tail of a baseline statistical distribution. In this regard, some researchers have paid attention to extreme value distribution for modeling the tail of a baseline distribution. However, few researches have been conducted to theoretically understand the extreme value distribution from a perspective of statistical damage assessment. This study investigates the asymptotic convergence of domain of attraction in extreme value distribution through parameter estimation, which is needed for reliable statistical damage assessment. In particular, the asymptotic convergence of a domain of attraction is quantified with respect to the sample size out of which each extreme value is extracted. The effect of the sample size on false positive alarms in statistical damage assessment is quantitatively investigated as well. The validity of the proposed method is demonstrated through numerically simulated acceleration data on a two span continuous truss bridge.
Binocular-pair images obtained from two cameras can be used to calculate the three-dimensional (3D) world coordinate of a feature point. However, to apply this method, measurement accuracy of binocular vision depends on some structure factors. This paper presents an experimental study of measurement distance, baseline distance, and baseline direction. Their effects on camera reconstruction accuracy are investigated. The testing set for the binocular model consists of a series of feature points in stereo-pair images and corresponding 3D world coordinates. This paper discusses a method to increase the baseline distance of two cameras for enhancing the accuracy of a binocular vision system. Moreover, there is an inflexion point of the value and distribution of measurement errors when the baseline distance is increased. The accuracy benefit from increasing the baseline distance is not obvious, since the baseline distance exceeds 1000 mm in this experiment. Furthermore, it is observed that the direction errors deduced from the set-up are lower when the main measurement direction is similar to the baseline direction.
A mismatch between the training and the test conditions often causes a drastic decrease in the performance of the speech recognition systems. In this paper, non-linear transformation techniques based on histogram equalization in the acoustic feature space are studied for reducing the mismatched condition. The purpose of histogram equalization(HEQ) is to convert the probability distribution of test speech into the probability distribution of training speech. While conventional histogram equalization methods consider only the probability distribution of a test speech, for noise-corrupted test speech, its probability distribution is also distorted. The transformation function obtained by this distorted probability distribution maybe bring about miss-transformation of feature vectors, and this causes the performance of histogram equalization to decrease. Therefore, this paper proposes a new method of calculating noise-removed probability distribution by using assumption that the CDF of noisy speech feature vectors consists of component of speech feature vectors and component of noise feature vectors, and this compensated probability distribution is used in HEQ process. In the AURORA-2 framework, the proposed method reduced the error rate by over $44\%$ in clean training condition compared to the baseline system. For multi training condition, the proposed methods are also better than the baseline system.
Water vapor in the atmosphere is an influential factor of the hydrosphere cycle, which exchanges heat through phase change and is essential to precipitation. Because of its significance in altering weather, the estimation of water vapor amount and distribution is crucial to determine the precision of the weather forecasting and the understanding of regional/local climate. It is shown that it is reliable to measure precipitable water (PW) using long baseline (500-2000km) GPS observations. However, it becomes infeasible to derive absolute PW from GPS observations in Taiwan due to geometric limitation of relatively short-baseline network. In this study, a method of deriving Near-Real-Time PW from short baseline GPS observations is proposed. This method uses a reference station to derive a regression model for wet delay, and to interpolate the difference of wet delay among stations. Then, the precipitable water is obtained by using a conversion factor derived from radiosondes. The method has been tested by using the reference station located on Mt. Ho-Hwan with eleven stations around Taiwan. The result indicates that short baseline GPS observations can be used to precisely estimate the precipitable water in near-real-time.

Underwater acoustic navigation systems are classified into three systems: ultra-short baseline (USBL), short baseline (SBL), and long baseline (LBL). Because the USBL system estimates the angle of a submersible, the estimation error becomes large if the submersible is far from the USBL transducer array mounted under a support vessel. SBL and LBL systems estimate submersible's location more accurately because they have wider distribution of measuring sensors. Especially LBL systems are widely used as a navigation system for deep ocean applications. Although it is most accurate system it still has estimation errors because of noise, measurement error, refraction and multi-path of acoustic signal, or wrong information of the distributed transponders. In this paper the estimation error of the LBL system are analyzed from a point of sensitivity. It is assumed that the error exists only in the distance between a submersible and the transponders. For this purpose sensitivity of the estimated position with respect to relative distances between them is analyzed. The result says that estimation error is small if the submersible is close to transponders but not near the ocean bottom.

Background: Citizen science is becoming a mainstream approach of baseline data collection to monitor biodiversity and climate change. Dragonflies (Odonata) have been ranked as the highest priority group in biodiversity monitoring for global warming. Ischnura senegalensis Rambur has been designated a biological indicator of climate change and is being monitored by the citizen science project "Korean Biodiversity Observation Network." This study has been performed to understand changes in the distribution range of I. senegalensis in response to climate change using citizen science data in South Korea. Results: We constructed a dataset of 397 distribution records for I. senegalensis, ranging from 1980 to 2020. The number of records sharply increased over time and space, and in particular, citizen science monitoring data accounted for the greatest proportion (58.7%) and covered the widest geographical range. This species was only distributed in the southern provinces until 2010 but was recorded in the higher latitudes such as Gangwon-do, Incheon, Seoul, and Gyeonggi-do (max. Paju-si, 37.70° latitude) by 2020. A species distribution model showed that the annual mean temperature (Bio1; 63.2%) and the maximum temperature of the warmest month (Bio5; 16.7%) were the most critical factors influencing its distribution. Future climate change scenarios have predicted an increase in suitable habitats for this species. Conclusions: This study is the first to show the northward expansion in the distribution range of I. senegalensis in response to climate warming in South Korea over the past 40 years. In particular, citizen science was crucial in supplying critical baseline data to detect the distribution change toward higher latitudes. Our results provide new insights on the value of citizen science as a tool for detecting the impact of climate change on ecosystems in South Korea.
Purpose: The main purpose of this study was to investigate that the stages of change in smoking cessation behavior among coronary artery disease patients for six months progressed following the stages of change suggested by the transtheoretical model. Method: Subjects for this descriptive survey were 59 coronary disease patients who were smoking or who had stopped smoking for less than six months. Result: In the baseline, the distribution of the subjects’ stages of change was as follows: pre-contemplation stage 25.4%, contemplation stage 25.4%, preparation stage 22%, and action stage 27.1%. After six months, more subjects in the contemplation(33.3%) and preparation stages(30.8%) progressed to the action stage than those of the pre-contemplation stage(0%). Eighty-one percent of the subjects in the action stage at baseline progressed to the maintenance stage. The relationship between the numbers of smoking cessation attempts for six months and stages of change at baseline was significant(p=.001). However, the relationships between self-efficacy and nicotine dependence at baseline and progression in stages of change after six months were not significant. Conclusion: Progression in the stages of change for six months among subjects corresponded to the stages of change suggested by the transtheoretical model. Hence, future development and evaluation of intervention programs should be tailored individually considering each patient's stage of change.
This paper is concerned with semiparametric Bayesian analysis of the proportional intensity regression model of the Poisson process for multiple event time data. A nonparametric prior distribution is put on the baseline cumulative intensity function and a usual parametric prior distribution is given to the regression parameter. Also we allow heterogeneity among the intensity processes in different subjects by using unobserved random frailty components. Gibbs sampling approach with the Metropolis-Hastings algorithm is used to explore the posterior distributions. Finally, the results are applied to a real data set.
This study presents quantitative evaluation standards for the shape fitness test, conducted in the process of the slacks fit test. This study aims to quantify appearance sensory test of slacks for the objectification of qualitative evaluation methods in existing shape fitness tests. The subjects were women of standard body type between the ages of 18 and 24. Slacks differing in their ease in waist girth, hip girth, crotch length and knee length were designed to test their shape fitness. The gap volume distribution between the body and slack, angle of the baseline by body part, and ratio of total thickness from the sideline using 3D human body scan data (which reflect the results of the appearance sensory test) were presented as quantitative evaluation standards. There were less wrinkles in the wrinkle/overstretch and ease categories of the appearance sensory test; in addition, ease was adequate and small enough to comfortably perform basic human activities in the standing upright posture. The gap volume distribution analysis between body and slacks showed that curves increased in the slacks surface along with an increase of ease in slacks and suggested that wrinkles also increased. In the baseline's horizontal categories in terms of a $0^{\circ}$ horizontal angle, the range of angles were evaluated as adequate by the clothing expert group. The total thickness ratio of 0.5:0.5 divides into the sideline from the baseline.
