  • In this paper, a knowledge base editor is presented as a supporting environment for an expert system building tool, OPS5. The knowledge base editor is especially useful for the fast and easy development of a knowledge base when the OPS5 production language is used. This knowledge base editor has some special facilities such as syntax and type checking, rule browsing and automatic bokkeeping. The syntax and type checking provides the facilities to find syntax and type errors in an edited knowledge base, respectively. The rule browsing facility offers various pattern matching schemes to see the causes and effects of a concerned rule. Automatic bookkeeping keeps the updated date and user name of a rule for the later reference whenever a user adds or changes a rule.

  • The weld quality has always been an important factor affecting the development of exposed CFT column-base joint. In this paper, a new type of exposed RCFST column-base joint is proposed, in which the high strength steel bars (USD 685) are set through the column and reinforced concrete foundation without any base plate and anchor bolts. Three specimens, the varying axial force ratio (0, 0.25 and 0.5), were tested under cyclic loadings. In addition, the bending moment capacity, energy dissipation capacity and deformation capacity of column-base joints were clarified. The experimental results indicated that the axial force ratio increases the stiffness and the bending moment and improves the energy dissipation capacity of column-base joints. This is because a large axial force can limit the slip between steel tubular and infilled concrete effectively. The specimens show stable hysteresis behavior.

  • In this study, brazing characteristics of the dissimilar Ti and Cu metals using a Zr-base amorphous filler ($Zr_{41.2}Ti_{13.8}Cu_{12.5}Ni_{10.0}Be_{22.5}$ in at.%) have been investigated for various bonding temperatures. In the sample brazed at $790^{\circ}C$ for 10 min., the Ti-rich phases in the joint were observed, while the Cu-rich phases were obtained in the sample brazed at $825^{\circ}C$ for 10 min.. Such a different microstructure and composition in the joints could be explained by the degree of the dissolution reaction. At $790^{\circ}C$, the reaction between the Zr-rich liquid phase and the Ti base metal was actively occurred to form Ti-rich liquid phase in the joint. As the temperature increased to $825^{\circ}C$, however, the reaction between the Ti-rich liquid phase and the Cu base metal was promoted to form the Cu-rich liquid phase in the joint finally. Such a different interface reaction is attributed to the reactivity or solubility between the Zr as a main element in the filler and the Ti and Cu as a base metal element.

  • A study was made to characterize the microstructures and mechanical properties of the base metal and the heat-affected zone(HAZ) in Cu-bearing HSLA-100 steel. The Gleeble thermal/mechanical simulator was used to simulated the weld HAZ. The relationship between microstructure and toughness of HAZ was studied by impact test, O. M, SEM, TEM, and DSC. The toughness requirement of military specification value was met in all test temperatures for the base metal. The decrease of HAZ toughness comparing to base plate is ascribed to the coarsed-grain and the formation of bainite. Obliquely sectioned Charpy specimens show that secondary crack propagate easily along bainite lath. Improved toughness(240J) at HAZ of $Tp_2=950^{\circ}C$ is due to the fine grain, and reasonable toughness(160~00J) in the intercritical reheated HZA is achieved by the addition of small amount of carbon which affects the formation of "M-A". Cu precipitated during ageing for increasing the strength of base metal is dissolved during single thermal cycle to $1,350^{\circ}C$ and is precipitated little on cooling and heating during subsequent weld thermal cycle. Thus, the decrease of toughness does not occur owing to the precipitation of Cu.

  • In this study, we evaluated the applicability of proper embedded depth of fillings by examining the uplift resistance using spiral foundation and top base foundation. As a result of the model test, the maximum uplift resistance increased with the embedded depth. The maximum uplift resistance of each region was found to be 50cm depth. The spiral foundation was 335.14N of Sancheong, 312.32N of Seongju, 403.94N of Wanju, and the top base foundation was 745.06N of Sancheong, 1028.82N of Seongju and 950.76N of Wanju. The yield point after the elastic section in the stress-displacement graph of the top base foundation was calculated as the maximum uplift resistance. For this reason, farmers do not actually use top bases foundation. Therefore, it was considered that the additional load increase due to slip connector will not occur. Model test results show that the maximum uplift resistance increases with the purlinss installed under the ground. Therefore, additional comparative studies through purlins installation will be needed.

  • The purpose of this study is to examine the effects of knowledge base and metamemory in children's conceptual implicit memory with category-exemplar-generation task. Subjects were total 180 children of each 60 from Grade2, Grade6 and High school students. They were examined implicit memory with category-exemplar-generation task, knowledge base test, and metamemory test. The data were analyzed using ANCOVA, and Scheffe post hoc test. The result was following: First, as the child grow old, implicit memory primed increased. Implicit memory amount was significantly different between Grade2 and High school students, Grade6 and High school students. Second, as the child grow high knowledge base, implicit memory primed increased. There was a significantly different found between age and knowledge base. Third, as the child grow high metamemory, implicit memory primed increased. These results were interpreted as that the state of the age, knowledge base and metamemory should be an important factorin implicit memory. And current findings suggest that implicit memory can show development if a children's knowledge base and metamemory in developing with age.

  • One of the main shortcomings in the current passive base isolation system is lack of adaptability. The recent research and development of a novel adaptive seismic isolator based on magnetorheological elastomer (MRE) material has created an opportunity to add adaptability to base isolation systems for civil structures. The new MRE based base isolator is able to significantly alter its shear modulus or lateral stiffness with the applied magnetic field or electric current, which makes it a competitive candidate to develop an adaptive base isolation system. This paper aims at exploring suitable control algorithms for such adaptive base isolation system by developing a close-loop semi-active control system for a building structure equipped with MRE base isolators. The MRE base isolator is simulated by a numerical model derived from experimental characterization based on the Bouc-Wen Model, which is able to describe the force-displacement response of the device accurately. The parameters of Bouc-Wen Model such as the stiffness and the damping coefficients are described as functions of the applied current. The state-space model is built by analyzing the dynamic property of the structure embedded with MRE base isolators. A Lyapunov-based controller is designed to adaptively vary the current applied to MRE base isolator to suppress the quake-induced vibrations. The proposed control method is applied to a widely used benchmark base-isolated structure by numerical simulation. The performance of the adaptive base isolation system was evaluated through comparison with optimal passive base isolation system and a passive base isolation system with optimized base shear. It is concluded that the adaptive base isolation system with proposed Lyapunov-based semi-active control surpasses the performance of other two passive systems in protecting the civil structures under seismic events.

  • This study discusses the interpretation and application of a post modern perspective to child development knowledge and early childhood teacher education. The survey of literature focused on the post modern approach to child development knowledge and early childhood teacher education, research in the reassessment of child development knowledge as it is challenged by the post modern perspective, and deconstruction of both child development knowledge and early childhood teacher education. It was concluded that child development knowledge is necessary but insufficient to early childhood teacher education. In the post modern perspective, the movement toward fostering "reflective practitioners" and basic knowledge base is more significant. Therefore, the responsibility of academics is to walk the fine line between presenting a formal knowledge base so that students gain assumption to guide their thinking and practice, critiquing both theory and derived practices.
