  • ZnO semiconductor material has been widely utilized in various applications in semiconductor device technology owing to its unique electrical and optical features. It is a promising as solar cell material, because of its low cost, n-type conductivity and wide direct band gap. In this work ZnO/Si heterojunctions were fabricated by using pulsed laser deposition. Vacuum chamber was evacuated to a base pressure of approximately $2{\times}10^{-6}Torr$. ZnO thin films were grown on p-Si (100) substrate at oxygen partial pressure from 5mTorr to 40mTorr. Growth temperature of ZnO thin films was set to 773K. A pulsed (10 Hz) Nd:YAG laser operating at a wavelength of 266 nm was used to produce a plasma plume from an ablated a ZnO target, whose density of laser energy was $10J/cm^2$. Thickness of all the thin films of ZnO was about 300nm. The optical property was characterized by photoluminescence and crystallinity of ZnO was analyzed by X-ray diffraction. For fabrication ZnO/Si heterojunction diodes, indium metal and Al grid patterns were deposited on back and front side of the solar cells by using thermal evaporator, respectively. Finally, current-voltage characteristics of the ZnO/Si structure were studied by using Keithly 2600. Under Air Mass 1.5 Global solar simulator with an irradiation intensity of $100mW/cm^2$, the electrical properties of ZnO/Si heterojunction photovoltaic devices were analyzed.

  • Low-cost, high efficiency solar cells are tremendous interests for the realization of a renewable and clean energy source. ZnTe based solar cells have a possibility of high efficiency with formation of an intermediated energy band structure by impurity doping. In this work, ZnO/ZnTe:Cr and ZnO/i-ZnTe structures were fabricated by pulsed laser deposition (PLD) technique. A pulsed (10 Hz) Nd:YAG laser operating at a wavelength of 266 nm was used to produce a plasma plume from an ablated a ZnTe target, whose density of laser energy was 10 J/cm2. The base pressure of the chamber was kept at approximately $4{\times}10-7Torr$. ZnTe:Cr and i-ZnTe thin films with thickness of 210 nm were grown on p-Si substrate, respectively, and then ZnO thin films with thickness of 150 nm were grown on ZnTe:Cr layer under oxygen partial pressure of 3 mTorr. Growth temperature of all the films was set to $250^{\circ}C$. For fabricating ZnO/i-ZnTe and ZnO/ZnTe:Cr solar cells, indium metal and Ti/Au grid patterns were deposited on back and front side of the solar cells by using thermal evaporator, respectively. From the fabricated ZnO/ZnTe:Cr and ZnO/i-ZnTe solar cell, dark currents were measured by using Keithley 2600. Solar cell parameters were obtained under Air Mass 1.5 Global solar simulator with an irradiation intensity of 100 mW/cm2, and then the photoelectric conversion efficiency values of ZnO/ZnTe:Cr and ZnO/i-ZnTe solar cells were measured at 1.5 % and 0.3 %, respectively.

  • In oxidized polyethylene wax preparation, the effects of main parameters such as the property of used wax, oxidation time, oxidation temperature, air feed rates on the change of acid-numbers were investigated. The change in polymer property was also investigated. The results showed under given reaction conditions, the acid numbers with oxidation temperature increased upto $160^{\circ}C$, but at higher temperature, it decreased. The base resin which was lower molecular weight had higher acid number. The result showed molecular weight as a experimental parameter was more effective than density in oxidation experiment. In milder condition, free radical initiator was used for catalyst to get higher acid-numbers, which was successful in comparison to the non-catalyst system. Also the catalyst with longer half-life was efficient, in order of DCPO, HOPO and BPO.

ZnTe based solar cells have a possibility of high efficiency with formation of an intermediated energy band structure by impurity doping. In this work, the ZnTe:O/CdS/ZnO structure was fabricated by pulsed laser deposition (PLD) technique. A pulsed (10 Hz) Nd:YAG laser operating at a wavelength of 266 nm was used to produce a plasma plume from an ablated a ZnTe target, whose density of laser energy was 4.5 J/cm2. The base pressure of the chamber was kept at a pressure of approximately $4{\times}10-7Torr$. ZnO thin film with thickness of 100 nm was grown on to ITO/glass, and then CdS and ZnTe:O thin film were grown on ZnO thin film. Thickness of CdS and ZnTe:O were 50 nm and 500 nm, respectively. During deposition of ZnTe:O films, O2 gas was introduced from 1 to 20 mTorr. For fabricating ZnTe:O/CdS/ZnO solar cells, Au metal was deposited on the ITO film and ZnTe:O by thermal evaporation method. From the fabricated ZnTe:O/CdS/ZnO solar cell, current-voltage characteristics was measured by using HP 4156-a semiconductor parameter analyzer. Finally, solar cell performance was measured using an Air Mass 1.5 Global (AM 1.5 G) solar simulator with an irradiation intensity of 100 mW cm-2.

  • One short core with length of 146cm(HB-107, at coordinates of $N51^{\circ}$11'37.5";$E100^{\circ}$24'45.6", from 229m water depth was subject of the present study. The sub-samples of the core were analyzed for the water contents (WC%), biogenic silica, identification of the main phases, grain size distribution, geochemistry and some physical properties of sediment(Wet density and Magnetic susceptibility) with aims of recording palaeo-environmental changes in Northem Mongolia. The evaluation of the geochemical and mineralogical proxies on palaeo-climated and palaeo-environmental changes are based on comparison to the behvior of biogenic silica through core, as later one had been showed itself, as good indicator of the climate and environmental fluctuation. Age model of the investigating core based on previously C 14 dated core HB105 taken from the central part of the Hobsgol Lake and the result had been published elsewhere. The core consists of two litological varieties : upper diatomaceous silt, lower clay. According to the age model the upper diatomaceous silt formed during the Holocene, lower caly-during the late Pleistocene glacial period. The geochemistry and phase identification analysis on the core samples are resulted in determining main minerals that form the bottom sediments and their geochemistry. The main include quartz, felspar, muscovite, clinochlore, amphibole and carbonate phase(dolomite and calcite). Through the core not only occur the relative quantitative changes of the main phases, but also happen that the carbonate phase completely disappear in diatomaceous silt. This is believed to be related to the lake water salinity changes, which occurred during the trassition period from Pleistocene glacial-to the Holocene interglacial. These abrupt changes of the mineralogy have been clearly traced in geochemistry of sediments, specially in calcium concentration, which is high in lower clay and low in upper diatomaceous silt. That means, geochemistry and mineralogy of the bottom sediments can be used as proxy data on palaeo-climate and palaeo-environmental changes.

  • Recently, the fuel using in the diesel engines of marine ships has been changed to a low quality of heavy oil because of the steady increase in the price of oil. Therefore, the wear and corrosion in all parts of the engine such as the cylinder liner, piston crown, and spindle and seat ring of exhaust valves has correspondingly increased. The repair welding of a piston crown is a unique method for prolonging its lifetime from an economic point of view. In this case, filler metals with a high corrosion and wear resistance are mainly being used for repair welding. However, often at a job site on a ship, a piston crown is actually welded with mild filler metals. Therefore, in this study, mild filler metals such as CSF350H, E8000B2, and 435 were welded to SS401 steel as the base metal, and the corrosion properties of the weld metals with and without post weld heat treatment were investigated using some electrochemical methods in a 0.1% $H_2SO_4$ solution. The weld metal welded with CSF350H filler metal exhibited the best corrosion resistance among these filler metals, irrespective of the heat treatment. However, the weld metal zones of the E8000B2 and 435 filler metals exhibited better and worse corrosion resistance with the heat treatment, respectively. As a result, it is suggested that in the case of repair welding with CSF350H and 435 filler metals, no heat treatment is advisable, while heat treatment is desirable if E8000B2filler metal is used with repair welding.

  • Pollution of chloride ion-reinforced concrete can trigger active corrosion processes that reduce the useful life of structures. Multifunctional materials used as a counter-electrode by electrochemical techniques have been used to rehabilitate contaminated concrete. Cement-based pastes added to carbonaceous material, fibers or dust, have been used as an anode in the non-destructive Electrochemical Chloride Extraction (ECE) technique. We studied the performance of the addition of Carbon Fiber (CF) in a cement-graphite powder base paste used as an anode in ECE of concretes contaminated with chlorides from the preparation of the mixture. The experimental parameters were: 2.3% of free chlorides, 21 days of ECE application, a Carbon Fiber Volume Fraction (CFVF) of 0.1, 0.3, 0.6, 0.9%, a lithium borate alkaline electrolyte, a current density of $4.0A/m^2$ and a cement/graphite ratio of 1.0 for the paste. The efficiency of the ECE in the traditional technique using metal mesh as an anode was 77.6% and for CFVF of 0.9% it was 90.4%, with a tendency to increase to higher percentages of the CFVF in the conductive cement-graphite paste, keeping the pH stable and achieving a homogeneous ECE in the mass of the concrete contaminated with chlorides.

  • Numerical liquefaction model and response history analysis procedure are verified based on dynamic centrifuge test results. The test was a part of the Liquefaction Experiments Analysis Project (LEAP). The model ground was formed inside of rigid box by using the submerged Ottawa F65 sand with a relative density of 55% and 5° of surface inclination. A tapered sinusoidal wave with a frequency of 1 Hz was applied to the base of the model box. Numerical analyses were performed by two dimensional finite difference method in prototype scale. The soil is modeled to show hysteretic behavior before shear failure, and Mohr-Coulomb model is applied for shear failure criterion. Byrne's liquefaction model was applied to track the changes in pore pressure due to cyclic loading after static equilibrium. In order to find an appropriate flow condition for the liquefaction analysis, numerical analyses were performed both in drained and undrained condition. The numerical analyses performed under the undrained condition showed good agreement with the centrifuge test results.

  • Laser is high density heat source, so it can make high speed welding with minimum heat input possible. Especially the high power fiber laser is recently commercialized and has high beam quality and the smallest system size compared with conventional laser due to it's unique oscillating mechanism. Because of these advantages it's thought that the most suitable heat source for LNG cargo tank welding precess which has to be conducted inside of ships. In this study fiber laser was used for welding of stainless steel for LNG carrier to applicate laser welding technique for shipbuilding industry. 1.2mmt STS304L of austenite stainless steel which apply to cargo tank was used for fiber laser welding. Butt and lap welding was conducted changing laser power, welding speed, then penetration characteristic was analyzed and optimal parameters for each materials. Consequently, we found that same or better mechanical properties were obtained in weld compared to base metal.
