Ab Initio Studies on Proton Affinities of Substituted Furans (치환 퓨란의 양성자 친화도에 대한 Ab Initio 연구)

  • The geometry of furan, relevant to the binding of bis-furan lexitropsin that contains this ring to the base pair of minor groove of DNA, is optimized by semiempirical (MNDO) and ab initio (Hartree-Fock) methods. The proton affinity and electronic structure are evaluated at the 6-31G and $6-31G^{\ast}$ level of theory for the optimized geometry. The proton affinities are also studied for various substituted furans with the electrondonating and -withdrawing groups to estimate the substituent effect on the proton affinity of furans. It has been found that the electron-donating substituents increase the proton affinity of furan, whereas the electron-withdrawing substituents decrease it. This result can be explained with atomic charge and electron density at oxygen of substituted furans.

  • The structure-activity relationship of photo-skinsensitizing psoralens has been investigated by the MM2, FMO, molecular connectivity methods. The molecular complexes between DNA and photoskinsensitizing psoralens are discussed in terms of their differing abilities to complex and react with psoralen interstrand cross linking DNA base. The photoskinsensitiziers are analyzed with respect to the sterographics models of the active sites of the psoralens and frontier orbital density is closely correlated with photo-skinsensitizing carcinogenic activity.

Antifungal Activities of Copper(II) with Biosensitive Macrocyclic Schiff Base Ligands Derived from 4-Aminoantipyrine Derivatives

  • Novel copper(II) complexes have been synthesized from the macrocyclic Schiff bases derived from Knoevenagel condensed ${\beta}$-ketoanilides (obtained by the condensation of acetoacetanilide and substituted benzaldehydes), 4-aminoantipyrine and ophenylene diamine. The structural features have been determined from their analytical and spectral data. All the Cu(II) complexes exhibit square planar geometry. Their high molar conductance values support their 1 : 2 electrolytic nature. The magnetic moment data provide evidence for the monomeric nature of the complexes. The X-band ESR spectra of the |$CuL^1$|$(OAc)_2$ in DMSO solution at 300 and 77 K were recorded and their salient features are reported. The in vitro biological screening effects of the investigated compounds were tested against the bacterial species Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli, Klebsiella pneumoniae, Proteus vulgaris and Pseudomonas aeruginosa and fungal species Aspergillus niger, Rhizopus stolonifer, Aspergillus flavus, Rhizoctonia bataicola and Candida albicans by well diffusion method. A comparative study of inhibition values of the Schiff bases and their complexes indicate that complexes exhibit higher antimicrobial activity than the Schiff bases. Copper ions proved to be essential for the growth-inhibitor effect. The extent of inhibition appeared to be strongly dependent on the initial cell density and on the growth medium.

  • This paper was studied on the electrochemical corrosion characteristics of weld zone for refrigerating and heating systems pipe. Austenitic stainless steel is widely applied to various fields of industry, because it is good to corrosion resistance and mechanical properties. But STS 304 is reliable to sensitization by heat cycle on welding. Therefore, in this study, electrochemical polarization test of STS 304 steel pipe manufactured by arc welding in tap water was carried out. And then polarization resistance behavior, uniform and local corrosion behaviors of base metal(BM), weld metal(WM) and heat affected zone(HAZ) for STS 304 pipe were investigated. The corrosion current density of STS 304 steel pipe is high in order of BM(153nA/cm2) < WM(614nA/cm2) < HAZ ($1.675{\mu}A/cm2$). The pitting potential of HAZ(238mV/SCE) for STS 304 is lower than BM(1206mV/SCE) and WM(369mV/SCE). Therefore, the local corrosion like pitting corrosion, galvanic corrosion and crevice corrosion of HAZ for STS 304 is more sensitive than BM and WM.

  • A new lateral MOS controlled thyristor, named Shorted Anode LMCT(SA-LMCT), is proposed and analyzed by a two-dimensional device simulation. The device structure employs the implanted n+ layer which shorts the p+ anode together by a common metal electrode and provides a electron conduction path during turn-off period. The turn-off is achieved by not only diverting the hole current through the p+ cathode short but also providing the electron conduction path from the n-base into the n+ anode electrode. In addition, the modified shorted anode LMCT, which has an n+ short junction located inside the p+ anode junction, is also presented. It is shown that the modified SA-LMCT enjoys the advantage of no snap-back behavior in the forward characteristics with little sacrificing of the forward voltage drop. The simulation result shows that the turn-off times of SA-LMCT can be reduced by one-forth and the maximum controllable current density may be increased by 45 times at the expense of 0.34 V forward voltage drop as compared with conventional LMCT. Relation between Surface degradation and Anti-pollution Characteristics in RTV Silicone Rubber (RTV 실리콘 고무의 표면열화와 내오손 특성과의 상관관계)

  • In this paper we investigated the relation between the surface degradations and anti-pollution characteristics of Room Temperature Vulcanized(RTV) silicone rubber coating that has different roughness through immersing into saline water. We utilized several analytic techniques such as atomic force microscopy(AFM) scaning electron microscopy(SEM) contact angle Salt Deposit Density(SDD) and average leakage current under the condition of salt fog. It is found that the surface roughness of treated RTV silicone rubber increased and the hydrophobicity of sample surface decreased with increasing the duration o immersion into water due to the erosion of base polymer the melting down alumina trihydrate(ATH) and the diffusion of Low Molecular weight(LMW) fluid. Despite the roughness of surface had been increased by water immersion excellant anti-pollution and recovery characteristics were maintained and SDD saturated to 0.1~0.14mg/cm$^2$. The average leakage current under salt fog increased with surface roughness. Measurement of average leakage current will be helpful to investigate surface degradation and lifetime expectation of RTV silicone coating.

  • For a successful inter-system handoff, several important issues must be handled and additional new features must be considered. This paper focuses on the cellular structure of small cells which are required for the high density of population and a handoff scheme designed between two heterogenous networks. Incase of inter-system handoff (ISHO), the time required to complete the handoff can vary and depends on the structure of networks. And also the transmission of additional signals can increase the probability of failure for ISHO. Here we propose the sub-boundary cell base station (Sub-BBS) to alleviate the role of the BBS. The Sub-BBS is adjacent to BBS in the same regional mobile network. 쪼en the mobile terminal enters Sub-BBS, the network starts finding a new route and after entering BBS, it initiates the transformation process. The proposed scheme significantly reduces the ISHO failure rate compared to the existing one which is the most recent and known as efficient.

Effect on Anodizing Oxide Film for Aluminum 6061-T6 Alloy on Corrosion and Stress Corrosion Cracking in Seawater (알루미늄 6061-T6 합금에 대한 양극산화층이 해수 내 부식 및 응력부식균열에 미치는 영향)

  • This paper investigated the characteristics of anodized aluminum 6061-T6 alloy for corrosion and stress corrosion cracking(SCC) under natural seawater. The hard anodizing oxide film formed on the 6061-T6 was a uniform thickness of about 25 ㎛. The corrosion characteristics were performed with a potentiodynamic polarization test. SCC was characterized by a slow strain rate tensile test under 0.005mm/min rate. As a result, the anodizing film showed no significant effect on SCC in the slow strain rate test. However, the corrosion current density of base metal was measured to be approximately 13 times higher than that of the anodized specimen. Therefore, the anodizing film significantly improved the corrosion resistance of 6061-T6 alloy in natural seawater.

  • OLEDs based on organic thin films are similar to semiconductor base light-emitting diodes in that they were also considered to be one of the next generation flat-panel displays. They are attractive because of low-operating voltage, low power consumption, ease of fabrication, and low cost. In this study, we used poly (3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene)/poly (4-styrenesulfonate) (PE DOT : PSS) as a hole injection layer. In this experiment spin coating method was used with various speed rate. The fundamental structure of the OLEDs was ITO/PEDOT:PSS/NPB/$Alq_3$/Al. As a result, we obtained the enhancement performance of OLEDs when the spin coating speed was 4000 rpm. We obtained a maximum luminance of 24334 $cd/m^2$ at a current density of 967 $mA/cm^2$.

  • In this study, charge pumping method was used to investigate the Si-SiO$_2$interface characteristics of the nonvolatile SNOSFET memory devices, fabricated using the CMOS 1 Mbit processes (1.2$\mu\textrm{m}$ design rule), with thin oxide layer of 30${\AA}$ thick and nitride layer of 525${\AA}$ thick on the n-type silicon substrate (p-channel). Charge pumping current characteristics with the pulse base level were measured for various frequencies, falling times and rising times. By means of the charge dynamics in a non-steady state, the average Si-SiO$_2$interface state density and capture cross section were determined to be 3.565${\times}$10$\^$11/cm$\^$-2/eV$\^$-1/ and 4.834${\times}$10$\^$-16/$\textrm{cm}^2$, respectively. However Si-SiO$_2$ interface state densities were disributed 2.8${\times}$10$\^$-11/~5.6${\times}$10$\^$11/cm$\^$-2/~6${\times}$10$\^$11/cm$\^$-2/eV$\^$-1/ in the lover half of energy gap.
