  • The technology of precision attachments has developed at such a pace that from a very few T-shaped attachments and bar attachments from the years 1915 to 1935 since removable bridge utilizing a T-shaped intracoronal attachment was constructed by Dr. Herman E.S. Chayes in 1906. There are now more than 120 models of the most diversified designs, ready made or laboratory fashioned. In 1971, 126 attachments were listed and classified by Mensor in his E M Attachment Selector. This selector consists of five charts giving specifications as to type, vertical dimensions, application, type of resilience, size of movement, type of retention and type of material and alloy. Thus the E M Attachment Selector is a useful guide for dentists to choose the attachment for his patients. But dentists should apply the attachment in each patient's case according to an accurate diagnosis and treatment plan. This paper is a case report of removable partial dentures utilizing CSP, PD and Bar attachment on a patient who needed full mouth reconstruction. Patient has right first, second molar and left first molar on the upper arch and also left first molar, first premolar and right canine on the lower arch. (Fig. 5)All remaining teeth are relatively healthy in their supporting tissues. On upper arch, ring shape CSP attachment was designed on left first molar and modified ring shape CSP attachment was designed on right first and second molar as the direct retainer of the removable partial denture. Full palatal coverage was used as the major connector in this case. (Fig. 23) On lower arch, author first splinted with a fixed bridge between left first molar and second premolar and a splint bar between left second premolar and right canine. (Fig. 11) A lower removable partial denture in which was designed with an Aker clasp on the left first molar and a PD attachment on .the right canine was constructed. (Fig. 17) This denture could get additional support from anterior splint bar. After both removable partial dentures were delivered to the patient (Fig. 26), author evaluated function of the dentures and supporting structures of the abutment teeth by means of clinical and X-ray examinations for eighteen months. According to the examination data author came to the conclusion that the prognosis of this case was excellent.

  • The surface characteristics of Zachery-treated turquoise stones have been studied in detail with a comparison of natural and plastic-impregnated turquoise. The SEM-EDS analysis exhibited that Zachery-treated turquoise was characterized by the uniform distribution of potassium element through the specimen and did not show the sharp crystalline $SiO_2$ facet and boundary phase which are common in natural ore. The potassium element shown in the Zachery-treated turquoise seemed to be occurred during the treatment process for the improvement of durability. The bar-shaped crystals observed in the pore was found to be a feature of Zachery treated turquoise and are expected to influence on their stability and durability, while the pore sizes in turquoise stones depends on the parameter of the treatment procedure.

  • Composite pressure vessels with HDPE (high density polyethlyne) liner with metal boss at each end were developed by Filament Winding Process. The vessel is composed of a dome-shaped part at each end and a cylinder-shaped part at the middle of the vessel. The environmental tests carried out for possible vessel materials such as High Density Polyethlyn (HDPE), resins and reinforcing fibers up to a year showed no significant damages. The boss was designed to minimize the gas leak which was verified by FEM analysis. Most ideal fiber tension was obtained by experimental method and the fiber volume fraction, $\textrm{V}_{f}$, obtained by image analyzer were 55.4 % in cylinder and 55.6 % in dome parts, respectively. Winding pattern is programmed to control the composite thickness in the dome areas such that the failure of the vessel may occur in the cylinder. During the cure, the vessel was rotated and a constant internal pressure of 0.62 bar was applied. From this, the vessel's burst pressure is improved by 28 %. The burst and fatigue tests for under-wound and fully wound vessel showed satisfactory results.

  • The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of immediate or delayed composite resin filling on dentinal microtensile bond strength (${\mu}TBS$) after applied the adhesive. The coronal dentin of human third molars was exposed. Single-Bond or One-Step was applied on the dentin surfaces. and composite resin were constructed immediately (group 1) or 5min., 10min., 15min., 20min. and 30min. (groups 2-6) after an adhesive was applied. The specimens were sectioned and made bar-shaped. Each surface area of them was about $1\textrm{mm}^2$. The ${\mu}TBS$ test was performed by EZ test. The results were analysed by One-way ANOVA and Tukey's test at 95% significance level. The results suggested that the ${\mu}TBS$ of Single-Bond to dentin was decreased when the composite resin was constructed 20min. and 30min. after Single-Bond was applied. But the ${\mu}TBS$ of One-Step was not affected by delayed composite resin filling.

  • U-flanged truss beam is composed of u-shaped upper steel flange, lower steel plate of 8mm or more thickness, and connecting lattice bars. Upper flange and lower plate are connected by the diagonal lattice bars welded on the upper and lower sides. In this study the structural experiments on the U-flanged truss beams with various shapes of upper flange were performed, and the flexural and shear capacities of U-flanged truss beam in the construction stage were evaluated. The principal test parameters were the shape of upper flange and the alignment space of diagonal lattice bars. In all the test specimens, the peak loads were determined by the buckling of lattice bar regardless of the upper flange shape. The test results have shown that the buckling of lattice bar is very important design factor and there is no need to reinforce the basic u-shaped upper flange. However, the early lattice buckling occurred in the truss beam with upper steel bars because of the insufficient strength and stiffness of upper chord, and the reinforcement in the upper chord is necessary. The formulae of Eurocode 3 (2005) have presented more exact evaluations of lattice buckling load than those of KBC 2016.

  • "Stupa of Buddhist Monk, YeomGeo"(844) is known as the earliest Seon-stupa relic remains in Korean peninsula, from which, during late Silla and ealy Goryeo period, there were more than 30 of stupa was built on such canon. and became the well-known material culture in Seon Buddhism in late Silla period. In $9^{th}$ century, with the JeonDeong(delivering the light of Seon)from Tang to Silla, the culture of "GeonTapIpBi(building the pagoda and erecting stele)" was also moved in. And it was right after the style of monk's stupa had been methodically changed in china, from having the room in stupa for the corpse, named as "QuanShenSheLi", to the lessened stupa that contain the cremated. Analyzing the "Master ChengGuang's stupa"(807)and its stele, it can be found the correspondences of octagonal plan and the subjects of ornamentation to that of Stupas built in Silla, reveals they were made by the same canon. By the document in the stele, surmising the historical cause of alteration in Chan stupa, there was the most famous zen master ShenHui at the time, who has the most important role of making the NanZongChan to get the authenticity in Chan Buddhism. His reliqury was the first ${\acute{s}}ar{\bar{i}}ra$ casket discovered among Chan monks' relics, consequentially it was to influence to Chan cuture and size the monks 'stupa for his ${\acute{s}}ar{\bar{i}}ra$. The stupa of master ChengGuang, by its shape and geological location, is the lost piece in the Puzzle of Chan stupa culture between Silla and Tang.

  • Effective use of traffic marking can lead to driver's safer driving by speed management and visibility enhancement. One of the critical factors in designing traffic marking is how to incorporate human factor issues into the design process. This study presented a methodology for evaluating the effectiveness of Hi-pass marking on Korean freeways based on kansei engineering. Hi-pass marking scenarios made by a virtual reality tool were used to evaluate the user's perceptions. Various combination of chevron angles and peripheral transverse(PT) bars were used for the evaluation. The results show that the most effective scenario is a combination of 60 degree chevron angle and an askew parallelogramshaped PT bar shaped. It is expected that the proposed method and outcome will be useful for making safer driving maneuvers.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of attachments and palatal coverage on stress distribution in maxillary implant overdenture using finite element analysis. Materials and Methods: Four maxillary overdenture 3-D models with four implants placed in the anterior region were fabricated with computer-aided design. 1) Ball-F: Non-splinted ball attachment and full palatal coverage, 2) Ball-P: Non-splinted ball attachment and U-shaped partial palatal coverage, 3) Bar-F: Splinted milled bar attachment and full palatal coverage, 4) Bar-P: Splinted milled bar attachment and U-shaped partial palatal coverage. Stress distribution analysis was performed with ANSYS workbench 14. 100 N vertical load was applied at the right first molar unilaterally and maximum stress was calculated at the implant, peri-implant bone and mucosa. Results: The use of the ball attachment showed lower maximum stress on implant and peri-implant bone than the use of the milled bar attachment. But it showed contrary tendency in the mucosa. Regardless of attachment, full palatal coverage showed lower maximum stress on implant, peri-implant bone and mucosa. Conclusion: Within the limitation of this study, ball attachment improved stress distribution on implant and peri-implant bone rather than milled bar attachment in maxillary implant overdenture. Also, full palatal coverage is more favorable in stress distribution.

  • Near-inertial waves (NIW) which are primarily generated by wind can contribute to vertical mixing in the ocean. The energetic NIW can be generated by typhoon due to its strong wind and preferable wind direction changes especially on the right-hand side of the typhoon. Here we investigate the generation and distribution of NIW using the output of a real-time ocean forecasting system. Five-year model outputs during 2013-2017 are analyzed with a focus on cases of energetic NIW generation by the passage of three typhoons (Halong, Goni, and Chaba) over the East Sea. Calculations of wind energy input (${\bar{W}}_I$), and horizontal kinetic energy in the mixed layer (${\bar{HKE}}_{MLD}$) reveal that the spatial distribution of ${\bar{HKE}}_{MLD}$, which is strengthened at the right-hand side of typhoon tracks, is closely related with ${\bar{W}}_I$. Horizontal kinetic energy in the deep layer (${\bar{HKE}}_{DEEP}$) shows patch-shaped distribution mainly located at the southern side of the East Sea. Spatial distribution of ${\bar{HKE}}_{DEEP}$ shows a close relationship with negative relative vorticity regions caused by warm eddies in the upper layer. Monthly-mean ${\bar{HKE}}_{MLD}$ and ${\bar{HKE}}_{DEEP}$ during a typhoon passing over the East Sea shows about 2.5-5.7 times and 1.2-1.6 times larger values than those during summer with no typhoons, respectively. In addition, their magnitudes are respectively about 0.4-1.0 and 0.8-1.0 times from those during winter, suggesting that the typhoon-induced NIW can provide a significant energy to enhance vertical mixing at both the mixed and deep layers during summer.
