  • In this paper, a simplified QoS model of MPLS-based backbone network. Conventional scheme proposed by IETF(IETF schem) is to embed a DiffServ model in MPLS network. However, this approach results in overall upgrade of MPLS system and so it is difficult to deploy this approach. Our proposed model, however, uses a Vidual Link which is a set of Label Switched Path(LSP) connected from an Ingress Label Edge Router(LER) to an Egress LER. In this model, Per-Hop-Behavior(PHB) is implemented only at each LSP in ingress LER and Core Label Switch Routers(LSRs) just guarantee each LSP's bandwidth, not service. This bandwidth guarantee service is fully provided by legacy MPLS model. Also we propose flow allocation mechanism and the flow distribution among LSPs of the virtual link by the flow according to the network status. To evaluate the simplified approach, the characteristics of the approach are compared logically with these of IETF's one through simulations.

  • Multiprotocol Label Switching (MPLS) has been developed as a key technology to enhance the reliability, manageability and overall quality of service of core If networks with connection-oriented tunnel LSP and traffic engineering such as constraint-based routing, explicit routing, and restoration. In this paper, we propose a control bandwidth borrowing scheme that maximizes the utilization of tunnel LSPs or physical links by an extension to the RSVP-TE label distribution protocol. MPLS-based core switching network and VPN services rely on the establishment of connection-oriented tunneled LSPs that are configured or predefined by network management systems. The mechanism of network management system varies from (i) a relatively static LSP establishment accounting, to (ii) a dynamic QoS routing mechanisms. With the use of hierarchical LSPs, the extra bandwidth that is unused by the trunk (outer) LSPs should be fully allocated to their constituent end-to-end user traffic (inner) LSPs in order to maximize their utilization. In order to find out the unused extra bandwidth in tunnel LSP or physical link and redistribute these resources to constituent LSPs, we expend the functionality of RSVP-TE and the found unused extra bandwidth is redistributed with a weight-based recursive redistribution scheme. By the extended RSVP-TE and proposed recursive redistributed scheme, we could achieve the instantaneous maximized utilization of tunnel LSP or physical link suffering from the potential under-utilization problem and guarantee the end-to-end QoS requirements. With the proposed scheme, network manager can manage more effectively the extra available bandwidth of hierarchical LSPs and maximize the instantaneous utilization of the tunneled LSP resources.

  • Because EPON access network shares a medium and aggregates the traffic from EPON subscribers, scheduling media access control on EPON bandwidth allocation is very important. Furthermore DBA mechanism of EPON based on TDMA is out of specification and up to implementation. This paper deals with a DBA method to guarantee the QoS of the delay sensitive traffic on the base of best-effort service and delay priority queue management. The proposed method performs virtual scheduling algorithm for the integrated traffic. It uses the same MAC messages and tries to guarantee the QoS of higher priority traffic first with a simple DBA architecture. We evaluate the algorithm for traffic delay according to polling interval and traffic load of upstream and downstream. The results show that the proposed method can guarantee the QoS of the delay sensitive traffic with priority of the service classes.

  • A new medium access control (MAC) scheme embedding physical channels into multiband carrier sense multiple access/collision avoidance (CSMA/CA) networks is proposed to provide strict quality of service (QoS) guarantee to high priority users. In the proposed scheme, two priority classes of users, primary and secondary users, are supported. For primary users physical channels are provided to ensure strict QoS, whereas secondary users are provided with best-effort service using CSMA/CA modified for multiband operation. The performance of the proposed MAC scheme is investigated using a new multiband CSMA/CA Markov chain model capturing the primary user activity and the operation of secondary users in multiple bands. The throughput of secondary users is obtained as a function of the primary user activity and other CSMA/CA parameters. It is shown that the new MAC scheme yields larger throughput than the conventional single-band CSMA/CA when both schemes use the same bandwidth.

  • In this paper, we propose an Energy Efficient Media Access Control (EE-MAC) protocol for wireless sensor networks. The proposed scheme is designed to save power consumption and guarantee quality-of-service for real-time traffic. EE-MAC uses the superframe structure which is bounded by the transmission of a beacon frame and can have an active and an inactive portion. The active period is divided into the contention free period (CFP) for real-time traffic transmission and the contention access period (CAP) for non-real-time traffic transmission. We propose the exclusively allocated backoff scheme which assigns a unique backoff time value to each real-time node based on bandwidth allocation and admission control. This scheme can avoid collision between real-time nodes by controlling distributed fashion and take effect a statistical time division multiple access. We also propose the algorithm to change the duty cycle adaptively according to channel utilization of media depending on network traffic load. This algorithm can prolong network lifetime by reducing the amount of energy wasted on idle listening.

  • These days, use of multimedia streaming service and demand of QoS (Quality of Service) improvement have been increased because of development of network. QoS of streaming service is influenced by a jitter, delay, throughput, and loss rate. For guaranteeing these factors which are influencing QoS, the role of transport layer is very important. But existing TCP which is a typical transport layer protocol increases the size of congestion window slowly and decreases the size of a congestion window drastically. These TCP characteristic have a problem which cannot guarantee the QoS of UHD multimedia streaming service. In this paper, we propose a router buffer based congestion control method for improving the QoS of UHD streaming services. Our proposed scheme applies congestion window growth rate differentially according to a degree of congestion for preventing an excess of available bandwidth and maintaining a high bandwidth occupied. Also, our proposed scheme can control the size of congestion window according to a change of delay. After comparing with other congestion control protocols in the jitter, throughput, and loss rate, we found that our proposed scheme can offer a service which is suitable for the UDH streaming service.

  • This paper discusses a testbed architecture for implementing scalable service differentiation in the Internet. The differentiated services (DiffServ) testbed architecture is based on a model in which a bandwidth broker (BB) can control network resources, and the ALTQ can reserve resources in a router to guarantee a Quality of Service (QoS) for incoming traffic to the testbed. The reservation and releasemessage for the ALTQ is contingent upon a decision message in the BE. The BB has all the information in advance, which is required for a decision message, in the form of PIB. A signaling protocol between the BB and the routers is the COPS protocol proposed at the IETF. In terms of service differentiation, a user should make an SLA in advance, and reserve required bandwidth through an RAR procedure. The SLA and RAR message between a user and the BB has implemented with the COPS extension which was used between a router and the BB. We evaluates the service differentiation for the video streaming in that the EF class traffic shows superb performance than the BE class traffic where is a network congestion. We also present the differentiated service showing a better packet receiving rate, low packet loss, and low delay for the EF class video service.

  • In this paper, we compare the performances of RIO and RIO-DC buffer management schemes for DiffServ AF PHB standardized in IETF. For the comparison, we relatively differentiate maximum delay for each Assured Service subclass in Differentiated Services by allocating bandwidth to each subclass differently. In addition, we set the values of RIO and RIO-DC parameters considering the buffer size determined by the network topology and the ratio of bandwidth allocated to each subclass. In this simulation environment, the performances of RIO and RIO-DC schemes are analyzed focusing on the throughput of the In-profile traffic, the link utilization and the fairness. Simulation results show that the performance of RIO-DC scheme is comparable to that of RIO scheme with regard to the throughput of the In-profile traffic and the link utilization. However, under the simulation condition RIO-DC scheme improves the fairness between flows much better than RIO scheme.

  • As a standard of WMNs, IEEE 802.11s supports two kinds of MAC algorithm: a mandatory EDCA used by IEEE 802.11e and an optional MCCA. While EDCA classifies traffic according to four Access Categories (AC) and offer differentiated service using a classified priority, MCCA can guarantee the specific bandwidth of users with a TDMA-style bandwidth reservation scheme between mesh routers. In case that a flow is VBR traffic of a multimedia application, MCCA has disadvantage that the reserved bandwidth does not be used entirely, though it guarantees required bandwidth of users and fairness using bandwidth reservation with neighbors' node. In this paper, we showed a problem that is wastes the reserved bandwidth when MCCA is enabled and proposed a new scheduling algorithm to prevent waste of bandwidth and to improve network utilization effectively, named Resource Sharing Round Robin (RSRR) scheduling. Finally we showed simulation results that performance of a proposed RSRR is better than the legacy MCCA through NS-2 simulation.

  • MAC(Medium Access Control) is demanded to provide end-to-end QoS(Quality of Service) for a variety of traffic in the wireless networks. When all the traffic is integrated in the channel, the main difficulty of the MAC protocol is how to efficiently support multi-class traffic in the limited bandwidth wireless channel. In this paper, we proposed the dynamic bandwidth slot method for improving QoS of the real time traffics. In this paper, we used in-band scheme to send dynamic parameter and considering buffer size and delay variation, we enabled 2 state bits to send to base station in mobile station. The proposed algorithm is to guarantee QoS of real time traffic and maximize transfer efficiency in wireless networks.
