Most of the multimedia applications require strict quality of service (QoS) guarantee during the communication between a single source and multiple destinations. This gives rise to the need for an efficient QoS multicast routing strategy. Determination of such QoS-based optimal multicast routes basically leads to a multi-objective optimization problem, which is computationally intractable in polynomial time due to the uncertainty of resources in Internet. This paper describes a network model for researching the routing problem and proposes a new multicast tree selection algorithm based on genetic algorithms to simultaneously optimize multiple QoS parameters. The paper mainly presents a QoS multicast routing algorithm based on genetic algorithm (QMRGA). The QMRGA can also optimize the network resources such as bandwidth and delay, and can converge to the optimal or near-optimal solution within few iterations, even for the networks environment with uncertain parameters. The incremental rate of computational cost can close to polynomial and is less than exponential rate. The performance measures of the QMRGA are evaluated using simulations. The simulation results show that this approach has fast convergence speed and high reliability. It can meet the real-time requirement in multimedia communication networks.
Proportional Fair (PF) share policy has been adopted as a downlink scheduling scheme in CDMA2000 l×EV-DO standard. Although It offers optimal performance in aggregate throughput conditioned on equal time share among users, it cannot provide a bandwidth guarantee and a strict delay bound. which is essential requirements of real-time (RT) applications. In this study, we propose a new scheduling policy that provides quality-of-service (QoS) guarantees to a variety of traffic types demanding diverse service requirements. In our policy data traffic is categorized Into three classes, depending on sensitivity of Its performance to delay or throughput. And the primary components of our policy, namely, Proportional Fair (PF), Weighted Fair Queuing (WFQ), and delay-based prioritized scheme are intelligently combined to satisfy QoS requirements of each traffic type. In our policy all the traffic categories run on the PF policy as a basis. However the level of emphasis on each of those ingredient policies is changed in an adaptive manner by taking into account the channel conditions and QoS requirements. Such flexibility of our proposed policy leads to offering QoS guarantees effectively and. at the same time, maximizing the throughput. Simulations are used to verify the performance of the proposed scheduling policy. Experimental results show that our proposal can provide guaranteed throughput and maximum delay bound more efficiently compared to other policies.
We have proposed a solution to multicast services and an advanced quality of service (QoS) mechanism on a packet transport system (PTS) based on PBB-TE. The point-to-multipoint (PtMP) connection in the PBB-TE system have been realized by grouping point-to-point (PtP) PTL trunks and mapping a BSI onto the PtP PTL trunks using a multicast backbone destination address. To provide end-to-end QoS of the PtMP services, the hierarchical QoS scheme for backbone service instances and connection-oriented paths has been implemented in the PTS. For providing different capabilities for service selection and priority selection, the PTS offers to customers three basic types of the port-based, C-tagged, and S-tagged service interface defined by the IEEE 802.1ah. To offer to customers different capabilities of the layer 3 applications and services, moreover, an IP-flow service interface have been added. In order to evaluate traffic performance for PtMP services in the PTS, the PtMP throughputs for the link capacity of 1 Gbps at the four service interfaces were measured in the leaves of the ingress edge node, the transit node, and the egress edge node. The throughputs were about 96 % because the B-MAC overhead of 22 bytes occupies 4% of the 512-byte packet. The QoS performance is ability to guarantee an application or a user a required bandwidth, and could be evaluated by the accuracy of policing or shaping. The accuracy of the policing scheme and the accuracy of the shaping scheme were 99% and 99.3% respectively.
The controlled load service defined within the IETF's Integrated Services architecture for quality-of-service (QoS) in the Internet requires source nodes to regulate their traffic while the network, in combination with an admission control strategy, provides a guarantee of performance equivalent to that achieved in a lightly loaded network. Packets sent in violation of the traffic contract are marked so that the network may assign them a lower priority in the use of bandwidth and buffer resources. In this paper, we define the requirements of a scheduler serving packets belonging to the controlled load service and present a novel scheduler that exactly achieves these requirements. In this set of requirements, besides efficiency and throughput, we include an additional important requirement to bound the additional delay of unmarked packets caused due to the transmission of marked packets while dropping as few marked packets as possible. Without such a bound, unmarked packets that are in compliance with the traffic contract are not likely to experience delays consistent with that in al lightly loaded network. For any given desired bound ${\alpha}$ on this additional delay, we present the CL(${\alpha}$) scheduler which achieves the bound while also achieving a per-packet work complexity of O(1) with respect to the number of flows. We provide an analytical proof of these properties of the CL(${\alpha}$) scheduler, and we also verify this with simulation using real traces of video traffic. The scheduler presented here may be readily adapted for use in scheduling flows with multi-level priorities such as in some real-time video streams, as well as in other emerging service models of the Internet that mark packets to identify drop precedences.
In tactical environment, tactical wireless networks are generally comprised of Tactical MANETs(T-MANETs) or Tactical WMNs(T-WMNs). The most important services in tactical network are voice and low rate data such as command control and situation awareness. These data should be forwarded via multi-hop in tactical wireless networks. Urgent and mission-critical data should be protected in this environment, so QoS(Quality of Service) must be guaranteed for specific type of traffic for satisfying the requirement of a user. In IEEE 802.11s, TDMA-based MAC protocol, MCCA(MCF Controlled Channel Access), has a function of resource reservation. But 802.11s protocol can not guarantee the end-to-end QoS, because it only supports reservation with neighbors. In this paper, we propose the routing protocol, R-HWMP(Reservation-based HWMP) which has the resource reservation to support the end-to-end QoS. The proposed protocol can reserve the channel slots and find optimal path in T-WMNs. We analyzed the performance of the proposed protocol and showed that end-to-end QoS is guaranteed using NS-2 simulation.
