Multi-hop Relay System for Multicast and Broadcast Service over Mobile WiMAX (멀티캐스트와 브로드캐스트 서비스의 성능 향상을 위한 모바일 와이맥스 중계 시스템)

  • The development of wireless network technology allows high data rate seamless communication irrespective of the place and time in various emerging mobile service environment. Unlike wired networks, however, wireless networks utilize expensive limited bandwidth. MBS(Multicast Broadcast Service), which is supported by mobile WiMAX system based on IEEE802.16e, overcomes this problem using a shared downlink channel for efficiently supporting a number of users. However. the coverage and throughput of the system are significantly affected by the channel condition. In this paper we propose on MBS system employing Mobile Multi-Hop Relay(MMR) and adaptive modulation and coding(AMC) scheme. The result of NS-2 computer simulation shows that the throughput and transmission time are substantially improved by the proposed approach compared to the existing MBS system.

3D Markov chain based multi-priority path selection in the heterogeneous Internet of Things

  • Internet of Things (IoT) based sensor networks have gained unprecedented popularity in recent years. With the exponential explosion of the objects (sensors and mobiles), the bandwidth and the speed of data transmission are dwarfed by the anticipated emergence of IoT. In this paper, we propose a novel heterogeneous IoT model integrated the power line communication (PLC) and WiFi network to increase the network capacity and cope with the rapid growth of the objects. We firstly propose the mean transmission delay calculation algorithm based the 3D Markov chain according to the multi-priority of the objects. Then, the attractor selection algorithm, which is based on the adaptive behavior of the biological system, is exploited. The combined the 3D Markov chain and the attractor selection model, named MASM, can select the optimal path adaptively in the heterogeneous IoT according to the environment. Furthermore, we verify that the MASM improves the transmission efficiency and reduce the transmission delay effectively. The simulation results show that the MASM is stable to changes in the environment and more applicable for the heterogeneous IoT, compared with the other algorithms.

  • In this paper, we propose the adaptive multi stream transmission technique based on SPIHT video signal for the highest quality service over the current Internet that does not guarantee QoS. In addition to the reliable transmission of the video stream over the asynchronous packet network, the proposed approach provides the transmission using the adaptive frame pattern control and multi steam over the TCP for continuous replay. The adaptive frame pattern control makes the transmission date scalable in accordance with the client's buffer status. Apart from this, the multi stream transmission improves the efficiency of video stream, and is robust to the network jitter problem, and maximally utilizes the bandwidth of the client's. As a result of the experiment, the DR(delay ratio) in the proposed adaptive multi-stream transmission is more close to zero than in the existing signal stream transmission, which enables the best-efforts service to be implemented.

Energy Efficient Data Transmission Algorithms in 2D and 3D Underwater Wireless Sensor Networks (2차원 및 3차원 수중 센서 네트워크에서 에너지 효율적인 데이터전송 알고리즘)

  • Underwater wireless sensor networks (UWSN) need stable efficient data transmission methods because of environmental characteristics such as limited energy resource, limited communication bandwidth, variable propagation delay and so on. In this paper, we explain an enhanced hybrid transmission method that uses a hexagon tessellation with an ideal cell size in a two-dimensional underwater wireless sensor network model (2D) that consists of fixed position sensors on the bottom of the ocean. We also propose an energy efficient sensing and communication coverage method for effective data transmission in a three-dimensional underwater wireless sensor network model (3D) that equips anchored sensors on the bottom of the ocean. Our simulation results show that proposed methods are more energy efficient than the existing methods for each model.

  • As a technique for high-quality multimedia service in down-link, the transmit diversity schemes using a orthogonal space-time block codes were proposed. But if the number of transmit antenna is three or more, it was impossible to obtain full diversity gain because of the decline of spectral efficiency. Accordingly, the quasi-orthogonal space-time block code that not required a additional bandwidth was proposed. But using a space-time block codes, the transmit diversity schemes were verified over quasi-static and frequency non-selective channels. Therefore, in this paper, we analyze the performance of OFDM systems, which a frequency selective channel equalized a frequency non-selective channel, adapting the quasi-orthogonal space-time block code, and compare they to the conventional orthogonal space-time block coded OFDM systems.

  • In this paper, we propose a protocol compression scheme for enhancing the performance of call processing of PTT(Push-to-Talk) which is one of the important services in IMS(IP Multimedia Subsystem), a next generation integrated wired/wireless packet communication network. To service the PTT on an IMS network, it should use the same call setup procedure as legacy Mobile and TRS(Trunked Radio System) networks and have a fast call setup time and enough communication bandwidth because a number of terminals should be able to exchange same data in real time. The proposed A+SigComp scheme reduces the initial call setup delay of SIP by about 10%, which is used by PTT service for call setup. In addition, the A+ROHC scheme is proposed to compress the header of RTP packets transferred during PTT voice transmission and, as a result, about 5% of increase in communication efficiency is observed.

  • Generally, vector spatial data, with richer information than raster spatial data enabledata, enables a mere flexible and effective manipulation of the data sets. However, one of challenges against the publication of vector spatial information on the Internet is the efficient transmission of the big and complex vector spatial datadata, which is both large and complex, across the narrow-bandwidth of the Internet. This paper proposes a new transmission method, namely, the Scale-Dependent Transmission method, with the purpose of improving the efficiency of vector spatial data transmission on the narrow-bandwidthacross the Internet. Simply put, its nam idea is “Transmit what can be seen””. Scale is regarded as a factor naturally associated with spatial features so that not all features are visible to users at a certain scale. With the aid of the Wavelet-Wavelet-based Map Generalization Algorithm, the proposed method filters out invisible features from spatial objects according to the display scale and then to transmit onlytransmits only the visible features as athe final answer for an individual operation. Experiments show that the response times ofan individual operation has been reducedoperations were substantially by the usage of reduced when using the proposed method.

A Study on the Implementation of the TCM DECODER for Next Generation Mobile Communication (차세대 이동통신을 위한 TCM 복호기 구현에 관한 연구)

  • In this paper, we presented that the performance of the TCM(Trellis Coded Modulation) using the Euclidean distance is better than that of the convolutional code using the hamming distance under the same bandwidth efficiency. And the TCM DECODER for next generation mobile communication replacing the using convolutional decoder is implemented. Also, for the implementation of the TCM DECODER, the convolutional decoder and the TCM decoder were made by C-language and simulated under AWGN channel with respect to the hard decision and the soft decision. So we proved that performance of the TCM is better than that of the convolutional code. From this result, TCM DECODER, of which constraint length is 3, 5 or 7 and which use the soft decision method, was implemented using the AHDL(Altera Hardware Description Language) and fortified using the Max+plus H version 8.2 of Altera corporation.

  • In this paper, we propose $\pi$/8 shift 8PSK and trellis-coded $\pi$/8 shift 8PSK-OFDM techniques by applying $\pi$/4 shift QPSK to trellis-coded modulation (TCM), and performing signal set expansion and set partition correspondingly based on phase difference. In our Viterbi decoding algorithm, up to L phase differences from successively received symbols are employed in the new branch metrics. Such sliding multiple symbol detection (SMSD) method provides improved bit-error-rate (BER) performance in the differential detection of the trellis-coded $\pi$/8 shift 8PSK-OFDM signals. The performance improvements are achieved for different communication channels without sacrificing bandwidth and power efficiency. It thus makes the proposed modulation and sliding detection scheme more attractive for power and band-limited systems.

  • The general bus system architecture consists of masters, slaves, arbiter, decoder and so on in shared bus. As several masters can't use a bus concurrently, arbiter plays an role in bus arbitration. In compliance with the selection of arbitration method, The efficiency of bus usage can be determined. Fixed Priority, Round-Robin, TDMA, Lottery arbitration are studied in conventional arbitration method. Conventional arbitration method is considered bus priority primarily, actual bus utilization didn't considered. In this paper, we propose arbitration method using bus utilization operating block of each master, we verify the performance compared with the other arbitration methods through throughput performance. From the result of performance verification, we confirm that proposed arbitration method, matched bus utilization set by the user 40%, 20%, 20%, 20%.
